Music is one of the most wonderful parts of Civ, and I think the high quality of music across the board is one of Civ's key differentiating factors as a franchise. So, of course that means we're all excited to hear the music!

Various thoughts in list form...

- Great to see Christopher Tin coming back for the main theme.

- I loved Sogno di Volare for Civ 6, but I must admit to being disappointed that the theme did not change with the 2 expansions. Variety is good! Assuming Civ 7's DLC plan includes major expansions like prior games, I'm hoping to see updated themes for the expansions.

- Civ 6 music was really great, but after a while I came to feel that it relied too much on Civ themes and not enough on filler ambient music (like Civ 5 had, including the classical music interspersed throughout). No doubt the civ themes were all wonderful, and the music through the ages was incredibly creative and cool to hear. However, it often felt like we just went from one increasingly involved theme to the next throughout the course of a game, which didn't give the individual pieces enough breathing room. More ambient themes would tie things together, make the individualized tracks stand out more, and make the music feel less repetitive.

- The return of Peace and War themes from Civ 5 would be interesting. I think that would fit Civ 7 pretty well, since evolving music doesn't make too much sense with the changing-civs-system.

Check out my Music thread for Geoff Knorr's email to me. He's back and so is Roland Rizzo.

As regards to Civ5's "filler music", those were licensed from some music company. I don't know if Firaxis is willing to pay money for those kinds of music in Civ7.

Sorry Guandao, I didn't remember you had made a thread too. Mods, would it be OK if you merged my post into Guandao's thread?

Also that's great to hear about Geoff and Roland!

I'd like to have as little western instruments for non-western civs as possible. China's ost in Civ6, for example, was in my opinion pretty limited with "native" sound. Chinese civ(s) instrumentally diverse enough for a Chinese version of orchestral music to exist. It might be a bit costly to have only Chinese instruments for Chinese themes, but they could have guzheng, erhu and dizi lead the music in peace variants, and pipa and suona in war variants.

Civ 6's approach of music developing through the eras was really nice, but it's the sort of thing that deserves to not be repeated. It's a defining feature of Civ 6 (and in any case it doesn't make sense in Civ 7).

I expect at least one theme per Civilization, with the remaining relating to the current Age, diplomatic state, important events, government, ideology, etc.

Perhaps even civics. It would be really nice if different music was more likely to play depending on which civics you're selecting. E.g., if you're going a more war oriented path, you get more drums and trumpets and the like. (though this depends on how civics will work, hopefully it's not a tech tree in a different colour like in Civ 6).

You could even have some classics play only if you have them as Great Works of Music in one of your museums (if this is a thing).
