Three Civ3 Units Revealed!

A lot more detail in pictures. they're pretty cool, but i don't know if they're ingame graphics or jsut the pictures in the civlopedia. It they were actual in game graphics, the system requirements would be higher than the people at woodstock.

I am not realy impressed by three modest pictures, the real questions remain.

I have created tanks myself, probably most people have played with Tigertanks and other nice heavymetal edited by themselves we do not need the CIV III programmers to do that
what I want is more options

I have to say that I am glad to see that CivIII programmers are catching up with what civ players want...of course there will be some time lag between what players want today and what they will want tomorrow...but then again you have to remember that not all players have the same ability...not everyone is a graphic mechanic nor are they scenario writers...sure we all more options, but the truth is...we aren't going to be many clues about what is in the game without buying it...that's what is going to sell the game...I'm sure they will release the new "capabilities" of the game soon if they have released some of the graphics.

Marketing is what it is about and we should be glad that both marketing and the desires of civ players are in agreement for now.

The more we demand the more the civ makers are going to realize that what we are wanting is what will sell the game!

We havent seen the actual units yet -- those 3 images are just concept arts, so we shouldn't get too exited.

Hopefully the preview site will contain a few actual unit images...

Those images look high-quality. If they have animations like TOT, I'll need to buy a faster computer!

Unfortunately they're never going to give everyone everything they want. Inevitably SOME people are going to be upset over what was and was not implemented.

What really got me pumped from Civ1 to Civ2 was just the deepening of the game itself. The increased complexity and detail.

ARRRG... did I just state the completely obvious? How useless is that??

I hope this fits in with this category.
Do you know what unit I think needs a drastic overhaul... or even to be thrown into the recycle bin? ...
The damned ALPINE UNIT.

It just gives me the willies to watch those things move across the map. What is it about skis that reduces movement costs in jungles, forests, deserts, plains, and grasslands???

I kinda liked the alpine unit, but you're right....it's not logical.

As for the 3 new units, they're cool...

How about getting Thunderfall to replace the units in the left column
<-----
with the new ones?

Why not have animated uints for marking rank.

Hmm we already have a max of 8 smilies in a text so that it doesn't take forever to load the topics. Don't you guys think that animated ranking icons would make loading the topics even slower???

I liked how those units looked, yet a part of me longs for the simplicity of the old units.
Two conflicting points.

Anyways, if their animated, I doubt I could run big battles, so I hope they are stationary. Civ isn't about the graphics anyways.

That's a very funny thing indeed. I always play Civ2, but recently I 'installed' Civ1 again and before I knew it, it was 3:00 AM. Simplicity makes a game addictive.

Well, we know now that they are animated. But perhaps for the sake of dinosaur machines (like mine) you can turn that off.

I imagine they'll be a way to turn the animations off. Ofter all, they ARE implementing a way that you can import single fram units.

I'm not saying they should pack Civ3 so tight with multimedia that it leaks from every pore, but I like a good dose of eye candy... and those units are it baby.

Truth be told... I just want to see that phalanx go "tink tink tink" on the side of a tank.

The only thing I'd complain about though is that the animated units increase the illusion that it is an individual instead of a UNIT of troops.

To the best of my knowledge, what made a phalanx a "PHALANX" was the fact that it was several rows deep of men... holding long pikes out. The enemy just didn't have a way in. All the phalanx had to do was walk forward.

The idea has crossed my mind to use a real amount of soldiers/tank/whatever instead of these units. However, the fun of the game is having 'solid' units/armies and not some vague amount. When you use these units, it's not wrong to show one unit. And ofcourse it just looks better, which is much more important, since it is merely a graphics point.

Yikes! Showing real unit numbers would be crazy! You're right... I'll stop complaining.
smile.gif

Still... gotta see that phalanx go old school on the tank. "tink tink tink tink tink... RUN! ... CHARGE! tink tink tink tink RUN! ... CHARGE! tink tink tink"

I am quite impressed. If all the units in the game are of the same quality (which are 100% over civII), I can just emagine what the quality of other game aspects will be like. ie: maps, multimedia (wonder movies) etc.

I also think that the gameplay will be exquisite and the options will be twice as comprehensive!

I just Know it! I just KNOW it!!!

*hehe*

Just think about how much better CivII is than the original, and then think about how much better the computers are these days for creating these games. If CivII is twice as good on most angles as the original, then why wouldn't CivIII be twice as good as CivII 'again', especially when the computers are anywhere up to five times faster?

Mark my words... Civilization III will be an epedemic all over again!!!

I am 1000% positive! No one will complain, I just know it!

P.S. and if anyone thinks any different SHUDDUP! lol, I like my world the way it is
