The Hoover Dam (Boulder Dam) was the first project of its kind. It was a symbol of American pride and workmanship. To think such a project could be undertaken in the early 20th century makes it qualify as a wonder of the world. And they replace it with this? I'm not saying the 3G is bad I'm just saying I don't think it's as deserving of the title "Great Wonder" as the Hoover Dam is.

It will be the world's largest hydroelectric dam when it is completed.

yeah..even though the hoover dam is huge in its time...this three g's dam dwarfs it in comparison..and its technical feet is much the same..they've had to displace entire towns and large tracts of land in a country were more man power then machine is used...its actually quite an amazing project. that and i think somewhat smartly the game designers decided that with the addition of many american wonders ...maybe re naming one to a country that has a simular feet of engineering wouldnt be that bad of an idea.

It certainly deserves being the GW that replaces Hoover´s. I think it can even be seen from Space, or so they say. It's a modern prodigy in engineering.

As you posted, Hoovers represents the power of USA back in the 20th century.

The 3G represents China´s industrial power as the "newcomer" which will come to take over the USA´s dominant world position well into the 21st century.

if nothing else, i think the variety is nice. and it's nothing off the wall. i for one wouldn't *really* miss hoover dam if there was no dam at all. and it's not like three gorges is completely lame.

i'm wondering if the effects will be the same or similar, though. (has that been revealed?)

i'm all for deemphasizing the western-centric nature of the game (yes, I know most civ consumers are from the West)

Fully agreed on the selection of the three gorges dam in terms of magnitude of the project as well as the fact that it's a worthy selection of something non-western.

as a brazilian I´ve always been kind of sad that itaipu, the biggest one so far(untill the three gorges is finished)was never in it,It was the only chance of having some peripherical country massive wonder(well at least back in the 70s it was a massive project, still is)but I guess three gorges is massive.and china deserves it as a simbol as someone said

I agree! This is an outright deemphasising of western culture!

Hoover smoover..it was Boulder Dam anyway... ;)

I have no issue with 3 Gorges...I think it is a good thing to get some Wonders from non-Eurocentric cultures.

I would like to see Easter Island in there somehow....or The Taj Mahal...or Angkor Wat...

The Three Gorges dam apparently isn't finished yet until , so that would be ok not to be included yet.

Like the "Cure for Cancer" wonder ? ;)

btw - does anyone know, if the different editions ( american, european, asien ) have different wonders ?

Nope, same wonders in every version, AFAIK. (MoinMoin nach Hamburg! ;) )

I always thought that the Hoover Dam wasnt the best wonder. I mean it helped my Civs alot, but giving hydo-plants to an entire continent seems a little overstated. And while in on the subject of power plants... i think you should be able to have more than one type of power plant in a city. Each additional one should have a diminished benefit however. Say the first power plant gives prod. a %50 boost, the second %30, the third %20, and so on. That way itdd make sense to have lots more power sources, such as wind farms, geo-power stations, and tidal-power stations. This way you dont have to wait for solar for clean, non super-explosive sources of energy. Ill probibly jump right on this when (and if) i start modding.

They should include more wonders. And replace that Cure for Cancer for the Taj Mahal. At least we know the Three Gorges Dam will be completed!
