Well, here is some history on me. I used to love to play civ 4, that was until i got call of duty 4 (360). After having played call of duty 4 for a while and getting good at it, i started playing competitively. I ended up placing "semi-pro", top 16 in the pro circuit ladders for mlg. Now i am back to play some civilization with cod 4 coming to a close. I used to love to play this game, but have not played in around 2-3 years. I just reinstalled it on my new computer (windows vista) and got it up and running. Are there any new strategies? what leader is the best to start with? I used to be able to beat the game on monarch fairly easily, but that was a while ago. If anyone wants to answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated, i need some new civ buddies :]. I wont be on terribly much due to football season, mine will be over in 2-6 weeks, depending on how we do in the playoffs. If anyone wants to talk about this game, or play some call of duty for the 360, just let me know. Its good to be back playing some civvvv.

I think Darius is a good leader to play after a long break. His traits (FIN/ORG) are easy to use, just build lots of cities (with courthouses if they're far from your capital) and lots of cottages! His Unique Unit most excellent, and his building is useful too.

If you're looking for strategies, I recommend the War Academy located here: http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy/

welcome, and happy conquering! :D

oh, alas that means no darius. In vanilla (vanilla = original/no expansion) I used to really like Catherine (CRE/FIN). Plus her cossaks are a truly excellent unique unit.

Her creative trait means no hassle to expand your cultural borders, and Financial means it's easy to have a good economy, just build lots of cottages!

ive been looking through the leaders, and the hunyac capac or however you spell his name, catherine, and washington look to be the best? And how much does the bts add on cost?

I downloaded it for 19.95 from direct2drive.com. I would assume the box version is a similar amount.

Huyana capac is very much the best, so much so that he is considered cheesy, and the HoF here won't accept games by him. Cathy is good, Washington is ok but his unique unit comes very late and isn't always useful. Spain is good for Religious strategies. Elizabeth is also quite strong, and the redcoat is an excellent unit. Really any leader has strengths and weaknesses on any map, so its hard to pick the best. Its a matter of taste, really.

Huayna Capac, Catherine, and Washington were definitely some of the favourite vanilla leaders.

I also recommend getting BtS--it adds everything from Warlords as well as its own add-ons (with the exception of the Warlords scenarios), and you'll find most of the discussions here at CFC are BtS-based. The gameplay is considerably enhanced and balanced by all the changes made in the expansion packs and patches (the most recent is 3.19).

When i get some money ill buy that, im currently broke :/ but yeah huayna capac seemed kind of cheap, im going to play some with elizabeth and catherine. is there any way to get BtS for free?

No. If we don't pay Firaxis for making games, they won't make more of them. And we all want to see Civ V some day. Save your pennies!
