There is a fault in the War Academy! The Time Warp is dependent of the map size!

I'm not going to give you the complete Time Warp scheme (too much work <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/wink.gif" border=0>), but here is an overview concerning the maximum turns:
<table border="1" width="400"><tr><td width="25%" rowspan="2">Difficulty</td><td width="75%" colspan="3">Map Size</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">Small</td><td width="25%">Normal</td><td width="25%">Large</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">Chieftain</td><td width="25%">570</td><td width="25%">570</td><td width="25%">570</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">Warlord</td><td width="25%">520</td><td width="25%">570</td><td width="25%">570</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">Prince</td><td width="25%">470</td><td width="25%">520</td><td width="25%">570</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">King</td><td width="25%">420</td><td width="25%">470</td><td width="25%">520</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">Emperor</td><td width="25%">420</td><td width="25%">420</td><td width="25%">470</td></tr><tr><td width="25%">Deity</td><td width="25%">420</td><td width="25%">420</td><td width="25%">420</td></tr></table>

Apparently, the scheme in the War Academy is only the one for a normal size map.

I noticed this when I was trying to figure out how many turns there are in the present GOTM.

Anyone care to make a nice HTML file of this for the War Academy? <IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>

hmm... are you sure it's correct?

what if you customize the map size by inputting the width and height of the map?

I asked him the same question, and his answer was that he hadn't tested that yet - but we wait for more info on the subject!!

Oh brother! That explains why that 1 GoM turns seemed wonky. There must be a size cutoff where custom maps fall into small, medium or large category.Where that is is anybody's guess. Can't think of an easy way to test it either.

Yes, TF, I'm sure it's correct.

And if you customize the map size, then the computer will choose one of the three options available for a certain difficulty.

Just check it yourself if you don't believe it... Start a game, cheat and change the elapsed turns to 420, 470, 520 or 570 and see which one shows 2020 AD.

That's why the Prince game in GOTM seemed faulty! A hundred turns less - no wonder that I performed so bad (I'm not going to send it in, it was horrible). That also explains Small map - short game, Normal map - nothing, Large map - long game.

It is probably simpler to make a table with four columns... 420, 470, 520, and 570. Based on the matrix of difficulty level and map size, the number of turns can be determined, and then the score computed.

I can't believe no one noticed it before---i always play large maps, so when I tried a small I noticed how quickly it flew by--there's a quite pronounced difference in the feel at some levels.
