Tips for improving my game(save attached)

So I suppose food is the most important factor to consider when mapping cities? I figured that specializing my capital as a gp farm and giving it a lot of food heavy tiles would be a better decision. Is it generally smarter to concentrate resources or scatter them among your cities? When we finish with this case study, I'll start a monarch or prince game and maybe you guys can advise me on many of these new techniques.

I knew that 1 worker per city was generally the best thing to do, I suppose I never followed it through. In Civ 5 you generally want 2 workers for every 3 cities, so this might be accidental on my part.

EDIT: Also! Suggest any guides for me on cfc that you think would be useful.

Hey manta - Just noticed when trying to load your save that you are using BAT AI mod. I suggest installing regular BAT for now and using that until you improve your game. No reason to add that dynamic to your game. Anyway, i can't load the game anyway...my version must be older.

My thoughts on this is, yes food is definitely the most important factor when mapping cities. I think its better to spread them around, sharing food resources as much as possible between cities. Making a GP farm can be good, but I don't usually like to use my capital for a couple of reasons.

1) GP farm really can't get going until Caste System. Concentrating all food in one city when it could be used for 2, 3 or even 4 cities can represent an early opportunity cost. Early opportunities are worth exponentially more than later opportunities.

2) GP farms typically don't make good Bureau capitals. Bureau capitals can be very strong.

There are ways around these problems, sometimes capital GP farm can be a good play. For example sharing the capital food with nearby cities early then have the capital claim them back when it gears up for GP farming.

In an ideal world I like to settle my GP farm about 4th or 5th with good food. Clustered jungle foods like sugar and bananas often make a good spot for this. But every map is different, it's counter-productive to try find simple heuristics in Civ IV. Sometimes distributed GP production can be better.
