To all Dutch out there: Civ IV in the Netherlands

I have reserved a copy a Dynabyte a month ago and the guys there just phoned in to tell me I can pick it up! Too bad I'm not at home right now, so it'll probably be the 31th of october, but fact is: I have it!, 29th of october.

can't play for at least a month because I'm in the process of moving. I'm going to live together with my girl (a gamer too, thank god for that). And NO, I'm not parting with my copy...

btw, it'll cost me €43, plus a 5% or 10% reduction for being a member of some sorts (bonuscard stuff).

btw2, looks like dynabyte is selling it for real now, pretty quick follow-up to the us-release...

Heh, I ordered at Dynabyte too, and they didn't call me :smoke:. But they do have it off their 'expected' list and on the 'new software' list, so I have high hopes of picking it up on Monday :goodjob:. BTW, list price is 49.95 euro, with preorder and customercard discount it's 43.50 euro.

They called me, even though I didn't gave them my phone number and I didn't log in as a customer on their site when I placed my order. Guess they really look well after their clients. I think I'll also buy CivV through Dynabyte.

Found it on saturday at 'Bart Smit'. The lady was just filling the shelves. I was the first one to buy it over there ...

Good for you. :) And welcome to CivFanatics, Ronaldo.

Me, I'm ordering from play.com for € 26.50 incl. delivery. Takes a few more days, but then at least I have my manual and tech tree in English, and not a Dutch manual / tech tree for an English game. :wallbash:

(See link in my signature for details on on-line shops)

Well, I got my copy from MediaMarkt in Duisburg in Germany last friday (at least 30 Civ4 games piled up there!). Yes, the manual and poster are in german, but that's perfectly fine with me. I'm learning some new words in the process, like 'Kampfhubschrauber' :)
I can understand that some may want to wait for the english manual/poster though.

I had the luck of my uncle picking it up for me as he was on a bussiness trip. Anyway, he was ing ermanny and picked it up for me. Said it was for all the times i helped him out with stuff.

Anyway, if i would have gotten it myself i woulda ordered it online. Its alot cheaper. Free record shop had the price set on 50-60euro's or something. Seen it on wow-cd and play.com for 30.

If you aint Dutch you aint Much. :king:

In Germany I got it for 39 Euros; add to that the costs of gas for driving there and back plus 1 Euro for the parking at MediaMarkt and the game cost me about 60 Euros in total.
Granted, it's twice as expensive than ordering at play.com and waiting a bit for delivery but I just wanted to have it and it's not like I do this a lot :D
It would've been a let down if the game wouldn't have run properly of course, but I experienced no problems at all. The game comes on one DVD, so no hassle with wrongly labeled disks and I do have a T&L video card that isn't ATI; the game runs with all graphics settings set on 'high' and it even runs in wide screen mode.

 The manual and techtree is in Dutch? All the more reason to order from play.com. The few games I've played that actually had anything in Dutch learned me that translation is usually horrible.

Yes and it seems this one is no different.

AH, good to hear that it is out here in the Netherlands. I'm going to buy my copy right now!

Picked it up just now and played through the tutorial already ( I did get the failed to initialize renderer error, but the pak fix sorted that right away).

I do wish they hadn't translated the manual too - the translation is not bad at all, but Civ in Dutch simply doesn't sound natural.

Crap, I'll definately order the UK version from Play.com then (it's also way cheaper). Does anyone know how long it usually takes them to ship to the Netherlands? i'm trying to have it arrive on the 7th.

Wow. they translated the manual into Dutch? Getver! why, in god's name? I can understand spanish, or swedish, but in NL most civers speak fluent english, read books in the original english, and perfer gaming that way too. I mean it's VERY kind of Firaxis to think of us in that way, but IMO there was no need, and it must be expensive to translate that much. I had a professional translator translate 3 school diplomas and it cost me almost 80 euros!

I don't think much thought was put into it. Probably there is some mega-deal that the manual of any game published by Take2 in the Netherlands is translated into Dutch. Much easier to stick with that deal than to try to decide if it's really worth it for one particular game.
And I agree, good translations are hard to make and take a lot of time.

play.com delivery information: http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=about&page=del

If you order now, they say release is on the 4th, and add 3-5 days ... you do the math. It's also possible that they ship before the 4th as various UK shops already have the game in store.

:hmm: translating the manual into dutch or having NL as a civ in civ4? I think he answer is pretty damn obvious! :gripe:

Got the game and love it (live near amsterdam so i quess games get sold there earlier then in luttjebroek (small town) or something.

man i LOVED civ 1 and 2 ..even got my little sis into playing games cause of civ1&2 (also master of orion 2 i must admit)
didnt care for civ3 much...or any other game like thois that game out since (like moo3 and alpha centaury)...but with civ4 the addictive gameplay is back all the way...i love nothing more (and at the same time nothing sucks more) then when i see it getting light outside and noticing ive been playing trough the night.

also i hate it too when game manuals are in dutch instead of english...whats even worse if when the spoken lanquage ingame is also in dutch...it all sounds so lame..take a great scene from call of duty or something and syncronize it to dutch and it will completely suck instantly.

instead of " watch my six soldiers, im going in!" its "Hou me in de gaten mannen, ik ga er tegen aan!".....

i think btw if they hire some prof ducth voice actors it *could* be ok...but they never do.

I was in Dynabyte today and saw they have Civ4. I already pre-ordered it at another store and am happy to wait until my exams are over (monday). :mischief: Besides, I'm not gonna spend a dime in that store anymore, since they look mispleased when you buy anything cheaper than €20 and their service is crap.

Anyway, just thought you should know. :)

By the way, English-Dutch translations are rather cheap; especially when it's for such a large scale. Still, indeed, in this case also pointless. :crazyeye:
