Too good games

We've all had those games that are just too good. You know, the one where your capital has Yggrdrassil and your second city gets Remnants. The game where your 4 neighbors all had such lousy luck that you had the continent to yourself by turn 100. Games that are just so good that you have to quit because it's too easy.

My last game, Faeryl, Emperor, Tectonics-Pangea. I start with riverside corn and 2 silk. My first hut pops AC, second pops Education. I get a couple with gold, then Black Candle gives me a GP. A bit exploring shows me the Pyre sitting right on the edge of my neighbors territory, so I leave a warrior there to pop it if the Amurites settle a city nearby. Those super-early cottages net me FoL absurdly early, and the turn I get HP the FoL Golden Age event pops. I stopped then, since having Alazkan when nothing else was above 4 str kind of guaranteed a victory, but I checked the WB first. My capital's BFC had unrevealed iron, and in a 11-civ game, I was the only one with a real religous bent. No Khazad, no Ljos, no Sheaim or Bannor.

Another fun one, Jonas, Monarch, Tectonics-Pangea. Yggdrassil by my capital, first huts yield gold, and on I think turn 3 Black Candle popped. Then I get the meteor event. Then another Candle. And then my exploring warriors found the Pyre. 2 free GP's and GA's before turn 100? I just had to quit that one.

So, what so-good-you-have-to-quit games have the rest of you encountered? And doesn't it feel terrible to have to end a game because it's going too well?

I think the one where half the evil civs got killed by marauding barbarians before turn 200. Something should be done about that, the powerful Barbarians are good but give the AI a few extra warrior units at the start to get them going.

if you think that it's becoming too easy, the easiest solution is to automate everything you have: city plot selection+production, workers. if you wanna take it to the extreme you can even research the techs that civ is suggesting. do it for some time and your lead is guranteed to fade. then you can have fun again :D

Jonas, with remnants in my bfc on a flood plain. I also had corn, mystic heaven and copper in my bfc. Malakim capital was 8 squares away, Bannor capital 12. Hardest part was keeping my score from getting to high.

slavery is usually the best way for keeping your score low. I find that population has a huge impact on that. just whip like there's no tomorrow and you should not get DoWed by the barbs :D

I don't think you will see this if you play on the slower speeds. The barbs come later it seems. Yes, the AI is terrible when it comes to defending their cities. They tend to expand like wildfire and forget about defending.

I used to see this a lot in prior versions, but I am not seeing it so much now. Maybe 1 or 2 AI civs go down, but at least in my games the raging barbs are not much of a threat except for early on. They disappear in mid-game due to squatting (settling and defending cities), AI expansion and too many Bears!

Play on a harder difficulty. That gives them more starting units.

On harder difficulty [I try to play Immortal lately as Kaelyn but had no luck here even with Locki] the AI is never wiped out by the barbs and I always play with Raging Barbarians.
