I'm 44, Civ didn't even exist before I was 30. Both my current and ex-g/f loved the games too. Sure your wife doesn't want to give it a try?

 I love these responses! :D

I get on the civfanatics chat, and all these kids are saying "You're *how* old?! You're older than my parents!" At another site I even refer to myself as the "site old-fart", because it seems I am nearly, if not *the* oldest member there.

I've been playing Civ since I discovered it about 1997. Ages ago I played "Hammurabi" on a mainframe - the game that was at the root of both Civ-type games and Sim-City.

I think I agree that we "elders" have more staying power, generally, than some of the young sprouts. We aren't always looking for the glitzy "next thing". We've found a game we like, and we stick with it. :)

Eclectic99, my hat is off to you, sir. I hope I am still playing and having this much fun when I am your age,

Oh, BTW. I'm a "mere" 48. ;)

Got me beat by 7, Padma.

24, been playing since I was 12. I'll be playing CivXIII when I'm 55. (They come out at a rate of 1 every 4 years)

This thread is sure an eye opener. I'm imagining my grandpa playing civ. :cooool:

Man most u people are older than my parents I'm only 13 and have been playing this game for 1/4th of my life an wopping 3 years.U are right us teenagers get board very easily.

Think the point is being missed here. The original poster's wife just doesnt like him playing this game, or any other computer activity probably.

It doesnt include her, & its not increasing status, income, housing, maintanence or in any way showing appreciation for her.

"You're so immature" is a classic generic female attack. That you guys got sucked into explaining or defending yourselves shows how effective it is.

Gee - can you figure out I havnt gotten layed lately?

A while back, I was oldest that we knew about at fifty-one. Then someone showed up about a year older. Now, despite my best efforts getting me to fifty-three a few days ago, I seem to be getting left behind on all sides.

yeah, this getting old stuff can be quite annoying. Try as you might you'll never catch up or extend your lead

anyway, why are the options in the poll 15-20 (5 years) and then 20-30(10 years) puts me with 21 in the same group as those 30 years old farts ;)

Reading this thread I've come to ask myself an interesting question -

yep, how old am I? really 38 going on 39 wow
I remember loading Civ I on my Atari machine like it was yesterday

I guess time itself makes a wild loop around us old farts -oops- old guard of Civ Fanatics...

Will have to get my eyes and teeth fixed to play Civ IV
heh, still no wife, had a girlfriend though, we used to play hotseat on Test of Time - that was grrreat fun... where did she go?
Ah, I remember - she switched to Lara Croft, can you believe that

What year we have got right now? Well, I'm about 36 if memory serves and spent way too much time playing civ and SMAC since '95. But MultiPlayer really is fun. Alas, life is short!

Nope, that's not it. My wife is playing Civ II on her computer right now. She'd like to try Civ III, but unfortunately she's going blind and can't see the difference between bonus grassland and regular grassland.
:love2:

Actually my wife spends far more time playing computer games (she's hooked on DAoC at the moment) than I do. Always has.

We can't even network play modem to modem games together because she won't stop playing, and I'd miss half the game by jumping to where she's gotten to in it's story line.

But you're right that statements to the effect of the male's childishness are a basic female attack strategy. Hard coded into the basic unit AI, I think. ;) Women the world 'round cheered on the day the The Peter Pan Syndrome was published. :crazyeye:.

Well, as I recall, Ernest Hemingway said
"We, men, never grow up"

So good God created the Other Sex
