I started with the first civ in college. It probably cost me a letter grade or two. I probably have as many hours playing Civ, CivII, CivII Gold, CivIII and Civ PTW, as hours in class. Graduating was easy compred to achieving any type of victory at diety level of CivIII! By the way I am 32.

I think that's awesome, that apparently, the average age is 25, 30 years old or older... it's always great to be playing people who are mature (heh, maybe I should rescind...)

...maybe the reason is because older people only play civilized games ;-)

...alright that was a bad pun!

My boyfriend is exactly the same way. Wants to pry me off the computer so I can watch TV with him. As you said ... NOT. ;) But otherwise, he's nearly perfect. :)

And I'm 33.

Do what I did when my significant other half made that suggestion, I hooked my computer to the television.

hopefully I'll be playing "Civilization XVI" when I'm 81...

So after checking your profile we know that Civ 16 will be released on January 14, 2054

We'll hold you to that release date :D  :p

One can never be too old to play Civilization. I'm 51, and have been an avid player of Civ I, Civ II, and, now, Civ III. My wife wouldn't dream of telling me I'm too old to play; she knows it keeps me sane. There is nothing like beating up on the Current Enemy (currently Enemies -- the French, Indians, and Japanese) to restore one's vigor and joie de vivre after a boring, tedious day of the intellectual trash which passes for my employment. Besides, it keeps me off the streets at night.

I think it is wonderful to see the amazing range of ages we have here!

I'm 50.

To the young people here, I say good for you. This is a thinking person's game. That you are here says something about you and you know what that is.

To those older than I, I say wow, I hope I am on the track towards where you are.

And to those in-between what can I say but cheers! :)

I thought I was a little bit old to play computer games. I am wrong, I am too young (35) :p

Guess it's just like rock & roll. In the 50's it was a typical teenage thing that matured in the years with the fans. Now it's for all ages...

Computer games started in the 70's ( I was a huge PONG fan!) and a lot of us that played then still play...

I grew up with Civ I when it came out - since that, CIV 1,2 & 3 have wasted thousand of hours of my life. And my god - I´ll play it for many years to come!

Aw, you've got my audio system beat. :)

Not that it matters when playing Civ3 - a game which isn't exactly renowned for its sound effects or catchy music.

I am another one of the oldies who has crawled out from under the woodwork as a result of this thread. I have been lurking for ages (and playing Civ 3 for ages too) but only registered recently when I realised I am not the only 49er that plays this amazing game.

(Oh and btw thanks to many, many people for hints and tips over the last several months – I now am able to play up to Emperor level as a result)

PS 49 is may age, not the year I was born!
