Yeah the movie seemed to have things not in the lore (I only know the lore, never played the Warcraft games).
It was an enjoyable movie, but I can see how people who aren't fans of the Warcraft universe would hate it. It has a lot of high fantasy stuff, and most people don't get into that. There isn't much to see if you aren't a fan of Warcraft (or WOW). But for a fan like me, I enjoyed the movie. It certainly wasn't the greatest movie of the genre, but the little bits of nostalgia were nice.
My girlfriend laughed when the murloc made the usual murloc sound. She knows that sound well, we've encountered plenty of murlocs in our travels. There were a few other funny parts, but there wasn't a lot of humor in the movie.
Our local paper was pretty harsh on this movie. I can see why, as I said, you have to be a fan of the Warcraft franchise. The reviewer claimed you shouldn't have to be a fan of something to enjoy a movie, but that doesn't work in all cases. Especially with fantasy movies. I even like that old movie Beastmaster movie (with Marc Singer), even though most reviewers would consider it a bad movie. He kept comparing it to Lord of the Rings. This movie obviously doesn't have the quality of the Lord of the Rings movies. It's a bit campy in comparison. But the fantasy genre has changed so much since Lord of the Rings was first written. It's silly to compare to Lord of the Rings.
I would have liked to have seen more magic spells. There were no scenes of Night Elf archers, in fact Night elves and Dwarves were seen very little. The movie mostly focused on the Orcs and humans. If they make another, I would like to see more focus on the other races.
