Training elephants

I'm sorry if this has already been asked and answered but I was wondering how I'm supposed to train tamed elephants that I've traded for. The pedia says I need myth of the elephant but I only have traded elephants and national elephant breeder. I can't get an actual unit of subdued or tamed elephant by trade can I?

I already have elephant trainer and stables too

No you have to find a wild elephant and subdue it in order to create the myth of the elephant. Unfortunately tamed elephants don't count so you can't get the myth through trade. Try to find an elephant resource plot that is in unclaimed territory, send your hunters to kill the naturally spawning wild elephants until you get a subdued one and then construct the myth. If all the elephant resource plots are already claimed go to war with a nation that has one and raze all the cities around it until the plot is unclaimed again and wait for the elephants to spawn.

@Dancing Hoskuld has explained that he knows that we don't have the ability to train tamed elephants or breeding pairs or whatever it is they're supposed to be right now and that it's a known mod oversight. It's too bad it didn't get corrected before the version release.

My two neighbours just went to war and razed the city with elephants next to it so i'll just snap up the resource directly. But does this also mean I won't be able to train horses which I've traded for?

I believe Horses don't have this problem. There are breeding horses in the game at this time.

Actually I just double checked the Civilopedia and apparently you can still make breeding pairs and create herds of elephants with both the wild and tamed forms of the animal.

Except the breeding pairs and Tamed where not enabled by the maker of them, Dancing Hoskuld. See ThunderBrd's post above #3. You can make herds from subdued elephants. Then you build elephant farm to get elephant Trainer.

It was all working fine until the wild versions became African Elephants or Asian Elephants instead of just Elephants. Meanwhile the resource remained as Elephants.

What needs to happen is

1. Two elephant herd bonuses and buildings are needed instead of the current one.
2. Random maps need the Elephant Herd bonus changed to African/Asian to match the region of the map. With North American Elephants being replaced by Mastodons; South American and Oceanic Elephants replaced with something. Art is needed for mastodons.
3. Myths etc need to be set up for each set.
4. Taming etc can then be set up.
