Transcendence - free space-based roguelike(ish) type thing

Yeah, it has elements of roguelikes in it, but a number of differences too. I didn't really know how to describe it. Maybe as a 2D Elite? Anyway...

You can pick up loot from destroyed enemies and sell it. The game's version of magic items are strange devices that need identifying to find out what they do, unless you like plugging random things into your ship.

Instead of going to deeper dungeons you jump to solar systems closer to the galactic core. There are missions to do, and much of the content is randomized, though certain systems and missions are the same in every game. Combat is in real-time.

I found out about from a livestream I watch occasionally. Here's a video of the session: youtube. It's four hours long, so no need to watch the whole thing. It covers a fair amount of gameplay though if you want to take a look.

I've only played for about 30 minutes, but it seems like something I could waste a great deal of time on. :P

Oh yeah, the download page has the most recent stable version, but you can get extra features by testing the next one. I've heard you have to go to the announcements thread in the forums to get that.
