It's going to sound like a stupid question, but does anybody know where I can find information about the types of electrical outlet are in use in China. In particular, do I need an adapter to use a common North American power source?

I am pretty sure you will find an adapter at any regular large department store -
for mexico everything only has the two upper plugs so if you have a american/japanese product you'll need the adapter

You should have a good adaptor set when you go to China. They use Type A (U.S./Japan) plugs, Type I (Australian) plugs, Type C (Continental European) plugs, and Type G (United Kingdom) plugs.

Type C plugs are less common in China and Type Gs are generally found around Hong Kong, with some southern parts of China also having G plugs.

Hey, I dug this stuff up on Wiki; I hope it helps you.

Ha, I laughed when i saw that Earth pic. I just saved and exited a Civ III game where I was the Aztecs (purple) and, with the exception of the extreme northern Canadian islands, that is exactly what my territory map looks like in the Americas!

On topic, though, why don't we all just use the same damn plugs, huh?

Guangzhou is fairly near Hong Kong, I think. A G plug it is, then. Where did you get the info?
Just do a Google search. That's where I got all of my information.

I had wondered about this same thing some months ago. Not China in particular, but areas outside North America.

You're going to China? Cool, I'm there right now with 58 days left on a 60 day visa. Maybe we could meet up somewhere.
