Troop movements through enemy territory during unrest

Obviously it's tough for me being objective in this matter, but if this were a feature, we'd not be the first to recognize it.
Now and then still new things are being discovered about the game mechanics, so I wouldn't rule out the chance. When I tested resource depletion a while back, I discovered it made a difference whether a resource was hooked up through a colony or not, and I don't think that was discovered before.
I've never heard about anything that would affect movement in enemy territory, but I haven't tested it either, so I can't be sure.
But how was the turn order here? Did it go Calis > Eclipse > Hawklord? And Hawklord was able to use Calis' railroads but Eclipse was not? That would still be weird, if that was the case.

I've tried it as well, and this is completely insane!! (But a hell of fun... :D)

Here is, what one single Infantry can do in one turn:

I tried it on different C3C versions (German version, English version, Civ Complete).
This can't be a feature, this has never been seen before. I think the save file is somehow "slightly" corrupted, not too much (so that it can still be loaded by the game), but enough to cause this strange behavior. Two things that support this theory:
  • CivAssistII can't load the file. (Aborting with an error.)
  • When I try to save at the end of the turn, it sometimes saves as 1595 AD, and sometimes as 1600 AD. The game itself does not seem to be sure about which year it is...

Some say it might be a feature caused by the extreme unrest of the Japanese cities. But I'm pretty sure there is no relation between the movement cost in enemy territory and the happiness/unhappiness of the city inhabitants (or between cultural borders and unrest).
And a point that contradicts this theory: not all Japanese cities were rioting! Most of the ones smaller 7 (and even some bigger ones) were still happy enough to not riot, but I could move into them just the same, even though they had enough culture around them to keep a 1-movement Infantry out.

BTW: the extreme unrest can have occurred by "normal" means. Apparently after Calis adjusted his lux-slider, Eclipse pillaged a few luxury resources and Hawklord brought neutral AIs into a trade embargo/millitary alliance, depriving Japan of further imported luxuries. So this could easily have caused outbreak of unrest in the interturn.

My advice:
  • Calis could perhaps replay his previous turn (without changing anything, in particular he should not protect the coastal cities, where Hawklord entered... ;)) and make a new .sav file. Perhaps that one will not be infected?!
  • They guys who run the GOTM competition know a bit about the format of the .sav file. (In fact, Ainwood is one of the guys who wrote the CivAssist tool, I believe). And they have special tools for checking .sav files. Perhaps you can PM them and they can help you and fix the file?!

Only if you take the view that the save is corrupt. I you take the view that it is due to unrest the game is far from over.

As a compromise why don't we play both games :) just to see what would happen. Make it more interesting.

Incidentaly, I can't open the previous save with civ assist either. Another way to see would be to play a couple of turns so Calis can get rid of the disorder and see if movement is still possible.

Now I am also confused. You said you already replayed your turn.

I also offered that I could replay my turn and we accept the unlimited movement as a game feature. But in this case I want to be prepared for it. I think this is only fair.

I really have no interest to play two parallel games.

I think the save has become corrupted. it can be fixed, I recommend Filevalet by AlanH. If you can find a post of his, there should be a link to it in his signature.

Anyway think about it. The Japanese people are rioting everywhere, social order has collapsed throughout the Japanese empire. The telephone engineers are hiding in their cellars. A Roman division of Marines lands in a coastal city. No resistance, no one to send word to the leaders. The Romans quickly secure the rail yard and commandeer Japanese trains. In the next city the story is the same, no resistance, rioting all over so the Romans plant explosives and move on, and on and on.
The government find out when Roman tanks roll into Kyoto, by the time they have moved on, Roman tanks catch up again. Japanese troops without orders and just barely hold the population in check.

It's the standard Blitzkrieg, the Japanese (like the French in WW2) didn't expect it and their troops were bypassed.

Could happen. ;)

Not only could, DID happen. The Germans did essentially this to the Russians in 1918, using Russian railroads to capture city after city with minimal troops, at great speed, until Lenin & Co. finally signed the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. The German commander wrote in his diary that this was at least a drole way to wage war.

Just when you thought you had discovered something new this happens~:

No unrest so it must be a bug in the save. It is useful to be able to go anywhere in your enemies territory and it was fun but I don't think it's something that should happen in the game.

1 infantry did this and could have kept going.
