I'm having a bit of trouble during installation. It gets to around 60% completion, then essentially stops.

Art\Units\Longbowman\LongVicLaugh.wav

After puttering on that for a good deal of time, we move on to...

Art\Units\Longbowman\LongVicQuiver1.wav

The gap between this one and the next is significantly longer...

Art\Units\Man-O-War\Man-O-WarAttackA.flc

After ten minutes of plogging along on that screen, a pop up emerges.

Component Transfer Error
Component: Program Files
File Group: Program Files
File: D:\data2.cab
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy test).

And the installation stops right there, every time.

I have absolutely no idea what is up. I was wondering if anyone might know? Just installing the original Civilization III running XP.

That error is usually a damaged or dirty disc. Things to try:

Cleaning the disc.
Copy the contents of the disc onto your hard drive and install from there.
if you have more than one optical drive, installing from that one or try copying from that drive to a folder on your hard drive and installing from there.
Try copy the contents of the disc on another computer, transfer across to your hard drive and install from there.

Unfortunately it often means replacing the disc. If it's a new disc you can return it for a replacement.

I hope simple cleaning works for you.

For whatever reason, my computer rejects the fact that the CD exists...not a scratch on it. I'll try the hard drive idea, thanks for the help!

Great. I tried to copy all the files over, and they all transfer fine except for four or five files in the Sounds/build/ancient subfile.

The files that won't load are

AncORc
AncORd
AncORe
AncORfull

When I try to copy and transfer them individually, the whole thing just quits on me. Does the whole "Not Responding" crap.

Upon attempt to install regardless, pop up emerges with this to say

Error installing iKernel.exe (0x10000)

...I hate computers sometimes.

EDIT: Could someone just lock this mess down? I've gone ten steps past this and nothing really worked out.
