trouble installing

when i try to install beyond the sword, an error message comes on th screen when the game tries to install an updated version of civ 4. it says

"Patch Failed to Install! Aborting Installation"

i have tried resetting and reinstalling with no luck.

the reason i started this thread is because i do not want to install the latest patch of civ 4... but if i must i guess i will have to... anyone know another fix/ or had this problem
