Trouble with BTS and my new laptop

I recently bought a brand new HP laptop with Windows Vista. I installed Civ 4 but can not install BTS for some reason. I just keep getting the message "The patch failed to install. Aborting installation!". Does anyone have any idea why it keeps doing this. Also, sorry if this has been posted before or if its an easy fix. I'm not that good with computers.

where did you buy civ4 from (is it a cd or a digital version) also did you try patching civ4 before installing bts and did you run the bts installer with admin rights?

its a CD version (both the original and BTS). And, yes, Civ 4 has the most recent patch. The build says that its the final one. I'm still getting the same error message when I try to install it.

also the final release version stuff in the about this build screen is misleading - it does not mean that its the final one. the other values in there are more of interest...

I'm the only one with an account on the laptop. Exactly what numbers are you talking about? I checked for updates and Civ 4 said there were none.

I thought you were looking at the about this build screen in game... which you can find when you click on advanced. it will tell you the version number.

as for the account: this is not necessarily enough in Vista with its security restrictions: try running the installer with admin rights.
