Trusting in a vastly superior intelligence?

Don't worry about it. There's no reason to think that the Earth actually feels pain.

Is there?

The Earth itself is fine. It's been through a lot worse than anything human beings are ever likely to inflict on it.

I cannot imagine any way in which it would be impossible to test the theories. Therefore, I would take the information, try it out, and see if it worked. If it did, I'd continue to make use of it. No trusting is involved.
You could test the theories by trusting the AI and follow its advice, but these are veerry complex calculations that can't be solved with puny human brains. ..maybe if another AI appeared that you trusted more and you ran the calculations by it instead..

The age of Earth is approximately one-third of the age of the universe

So the universe is 12000-18000 years old?

The earth was made for us and we aren't destroying it
The Earth was made for us baby
And we aren't destroying it
But I can't get enough of it's resources baby
Can you get enough of it?

Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo

Ok, so it doesn't fit perfectly.

So the universe is 12000-18000 years old?

Er... yeah... no... I don't know.

I see what you did there. 3 x 6000 = 18,000.

But does the 6,000 refer to the creation of the Earth or the World, which might mean the entire universe? So, it could work out that the Earth is only 2,000 years old, and the Universe 6,000.

But then there's that whole six day creation business, and it depends on how long a "day" is, especially the first one, which could be any length at all. So, I don't know, do I?

Earth was created perfectly from day 7 onwards to accommodate humans and all of gods other creations. There were no dinosaurs or pre dinosaur volcanic Earth with meteor collisions.

That article was a blasphemous sin to read!

Sure you can make fun of the 'the earth was created in 7 days', but aren't numbers actually observed not as set amounts but as potential for relations between numbers or their equations?

In that sense... 7 can stand for whatever, eg 123 billion years :)

Mister Rapture, your philosophy diploma is fake! You're fired. (Although, if you're looking for a job, there's an university in Sofia which accepts anyone.).

We discussed this before, you can't always substitute 'fake' for 'English' :p

My BA is just English. :\ (still better than the current Greek universities, anyway).

Ooer! Who'd have thunk it?

(Reuters) - Greece emerged from a crippling six-year recession as early as the start of the year and has been growing ever since, data showed on Friday.

Seasonally adjusted figures showed the euro zone weakling posted three consecutive quarters of growth this year, even though it had only been expected to exit what the government has called Greece's "Great Depression" in the third quarter.

Earlier quarters were revised using new EU formulas.

The news is a boost for Greece's government, which has been promising austerity-weary Greeks better times ahead. Analysts said it meant the country will probably top its 2014 0.6 percent growth target and improve its swollen debt ratios.

I thought you were referencing with the tag at the end to the now-unfunny Philosopher Raptor meme, which isn't a philosopher in any shape or form.

Although..Ow. English BA? That'll hurt.

@Tolni: i did ;)

@Borachio: don't believe it; things are as crap as ever with the economy and politicians here. It is just that there likely will be an election (again) due to the parties not having enough votes to agree on the new 'president' ceremonial figurehead, so they ask their buddies over at the over-Gau for some useful lie.

I am proud of my country. Despite the turbulent times, we have managed to suck on a constant level without getting worse or better for 25 years. How many countries are that stable?

They're just a province of Great Bulgaria which we've left them to have their own independence, because we're that stable.

Almost in Byzantium again, I see :nono:

Not much enthusiasm about the super intelligent AI. It would be able to guide you to the partner of your dreams, find you the perfect job, keep you in physical and mental health. All it would take would be that it can use the data that's collected on you already and a fee for the services.
