Trusting in a vastly superior intelligence?

Why do you want to see the world suffer and burn and be destroyed?

That doesn't strike me as a particularly life-affirming attitude.

What makes you such a sad bunny?

If it's that you think human beings deserve to suffer, why do you want them to be destroyed? It would make more sense for their suffering to continue as long as possible wouldn't it?

No because the Earth needs saving. Humans are destroying it.

No more humans!

Have you ever considered looking at this from a different angle? Perhaps one that doesn't involve killing everyone on the surface of the planet.

That's a good thing, bhavv. There is no reason to suspect any alien civilization so advanced as to be aware of us AND capable of reaching us is automatically going to be all sunshine and bunnies. Not necessarily any reason to suspect they aren't, of course, but considering that if they could get here, they could also probably squash us like a bug, I think it best to err on the side of caution because we can't always trust that their networking will be running AppleTalk or TCP/IP so Jeff Goldblum can hack it.

They'd be too busy mocking us for still using IPv4.

Yes!

Offer Justin Bieber as a human sacrifice and show me his head on a pike and I will forgive the entire remaining human race!

That's several kinds of wrong, dude.

You're the second person to mention that to me now, I thought just about everyone wanted JB's head on a pike.

No, not really. We don't actually advocate murder of people, no matter how much we hate them.

And especially, we don't "want JB's head on a pike". I mean, seriously dude.

The planet is going to be fine, it doesn't really care what happens to its myriad organisms who are but a blink of an eye in its existence. The only things humans are destroying is the capacity to sustain large numbers of them. Humans are the product of the universe and being all oh woe what a dreadful collections of agents we are overestimates how much choice we have or how much it matters.

Noooo, I thought hating JB and even wanting him dead was a whole internet meme thing with gifs and fake videos of him being shot and stuff.

If a superior intelligence would appear in the Cloud - one that would explain how to make fusion power available, how to reach the stars, heal the sick and overall make the world a better place - would you trust it?.

If the experiences of Al Gore Ralph Nader and Anita Sarkeesian are representative then most people would not trust it.

Why do you care so much about him? I don't care at all about him. I'm completely apathetic. What has he done to deserve hate? Make music you don't like? It's just childish and weird.

It is weird.

I've heard a lot of adolescent boys hate Bieber because their potential girlfriends love him. They see him as a rival, and impotently all they can do is hate him

He came to my country and pissed in a janitors mop bucket. He can die.

The earth was made for us and we aren't destroying it, but if you are so sure, why are you still here if you really we are destroying?

If a superior intelligence would appear in the Cloud - one that would explain how to make fusion power available, how to reach the stars, heal the sick and overall make the world a better place - would you trust it? It would be impossible to test the theories through calculations, you either trust it or you don't, but fusion power and several diseases were solved due to this intelligence. ..in this scenario.

I cannot imagine any way in which it would be impossible to test the theories. Therefore, I would take the information, try it out, and see if it worked. If it did, I'd continue to make use of it. No trusting is involved.

The Earth wasn't made for humans, humans just happened to evolve upon it.

Pollution, deforestation, overpopulation, poor Earth :(
