An evil wololo kidnaps you and gives you a computer with civ 6 and tells you this:

Standard settings/pangea. Deity. [Edited]

You can play any civ you want. But if you lose the game, you're executed (you're freed if you win). No reloading of maps or saves.

Which civ would you play?

My answer: Canada. Second choice: Nubia.

That's why I consider those two to be the best civs in the game.

I thought Inca was your number one civ.

As for me, I'd choose Russia for this experiment.

What if you spawn next to Mongolia and the Zulu?

Inca is my #1 civ... unless I'm playing for my life. Compared to what Canada provides, it's not worth it. You could get a bad map roll and die with any civ... except Canada and maybe Nubia.

I'd be more worried about Aztec or Sumeria. But I've had them as neighbors before. I just expect a rush in that situation and hunker down.

There's the chance you'd get rushed by two neighbors. Low chance, but it's still there.

There are some starts which are unwinnable without reloading.

Canada: you are surrounded and loose your capital to loyalty pressure.

Nubia: Rushed by America, Aztec or Sumeria.

Into the Rancor dungeon you go!

You have costal start with no tundra.

Madame la Guillotine awaits.

Inca is my #1 civ

As you look out over a vast expanse of desert, the only life is a tree. A hanging tree...

georgia, I hate my life

Your bonuses are not the only reason you will soon be closer to god.

I have not tried Deity but I will try America. Not afraid of dying.

The good news is you get the eureka for Foreign Trade on turn two. The bad news is the fall off of the tarpeian rock isn't doesn't kill you, the landing does.

Without having to put resources into warriors, you can easily get 3 cities as Canada. Spam settlers and win. Also, with your tundra bias you won't be surrounded.

Nubia has 50% prod bonus to slingers. It's like starting with Agoge, that gets better once you have Agoge!

You can recover from bad starts. What you can't recover from is multiple warrior rushes and a bad start.

Not trying to start a bigger discussion about the AI or anything, but any civ would be fine. I have never lost in civ 6. I do not save scum or reroll. I did struggle against a Sumerian rush once, but turned the tables and wiped them out. Gorgo hit me hard once as well, but again, recaptured, rebuilt, won religiously. I do not consider myself very good at the game either.

My choice, since we can choose and it would be foolish to tempt fate, would probably be Germany. I have had great success as Germany. Production is king, leads to everything else. Relatively free cities if I need them early in city states.

But what if you start next to Mongolia and Nubia? First Mongolia warrior rushes you. Puts you behind. Then Nubia archer rushes you.

Off to the gallows you go.

From a safety perspective you should either:

1. Play Canada.
2. Play Nubia (extra slinger production bonus, that slingshots into Pitati- also if you play as Nubia the AI can't play it)
3. Play Aztecs

With all the other options there's the potential AI DOWs you by turn 20 and then you die before you get any of your UU or UBs online.
