Ok, here we go:
Couple notes for endymion specifically, then general stuff I think the next player needs to be aware of:
- the AI won't trade nationalism until they've built the Taj Mahal, so chemistry was a bad choice. I would have chosen either Nationalism or Economics (free great merchant)
- You didn't give details on how far you cranked the science slider, so I don't know if this is an appropriate comment, but: I would definitely have only raised it far enough to get the minimum number of turns that we could, losing more money than needed without shaving an extra turn off the research accomplishes nothing for us (except losing more gold)
- I see the Forbidden Palace is being built in Uppsala - why here, instead of Athens, especially knowing we have to expand further east? We may need to change this build.
General notes:
--------------
-
Rheims is starving! The new city that was founded (why the rush, endy?) stole an important food tile (farmed floodplain). This needs to be given back to Rheims so it can maintain top production.
- Justinian will give us 10 gpt for silver if we cancel the current deal and renegotiate
- Espionage points should probably be re-distributed to the following: Mehmed (3), Gilgamesh (2), Bismarck (2)
- I think we should sell Pericles the worst tech we have that he doesn't for all his gold, plus whatever else we can get...looking at it, I think Drama for his gold, world map, and stop trading with Mehmed.
Since I'm short on time, one more comment and then I'll just respond to what everyone else has to say/suggest
We have to keep our goal in mind, and that is Domination. Right now we're far too builder-y to accomplish that goal anytime soon. Yes, our economy isn't great, but running 60% science at a small deficit isn't horrible, and I actually think that if we play this right, and start focusing a lot more on military we can have this game wrapped up in short order. So here's what I'm thinking...we need to use our best production cities,
especially Lyons and Rheims, to churn out units - and that's all they should do, minus a break or two for some production-boosting buildings. We need to target Sitting Bull and Bismarck as our next conquests - eliminate Sitting Bull by taking his cities and smash Bismarck until he capitulates.
We need more defense in our back cities, a single archer or spearman in places doesn't cut it. Get a Musketeer or two in each city and junk the old units - that will actually decrease our maintenance costs. Get some solid defense in Athens, and then send out our stack.
I think the road to victory will be a rolling-conquest, meaning that after the next turnset or two
at most, we will be at war non-stop, and will use the gold from capturing cities to continue funding maintenance/research. With Sitting Bull, Bismarck, and Mehmed as our targets in line, I think it should be a cakewalk to our Domination victory, and I think we can do it before 1700.
Let's hear what the rest of you guys think
