I avoided RAs thinking that was wise and that crippled my progress. Stupid, but slopped it out and got the 5 GoldenAge achievement. Caesar and Catherine turned into monster militaries, spent about 1000 years fighting Augustus.

Founded Persepolis on the coastal stone, as I didn't want too many desert or dyes tiles for the capital.
I hoped for a +1 production from the stone and to see a fish, but got neither, so being on the coast was pretty useless. On the plus side, there was extra Gold and Stone within reach. Also, by settling on the stone we could buy a Stoneworks right upon the discovery of Calendar, without building a quarry somewhere first. With some aggressive tile buying, we got a good production up pretty fast.
We popped 4 nearby ruins for good results (culture, survivors, upgrade, gold) but that's all we found, except for a late-game island ruin that gave ... 20 culture (hurray!).
While we were always friendly and honourable, the AI did not make it easy on us with frequent backstabbing, attacking city state allies, and refusals to trade for luxuries no matter what we offered. So, WLTKD's were mostly out of the picture.
For a while, we were at war with all four neighbours and although they were no real threat, this meant no trading opportunities at all!
Later, Russia conquered cultural ally Geneva (on their continent) which slowed down our progress, but we were able to defend Monaco in 3 wars with Rome. In between, Rome let run one RA to completion, but broke another that was supposed to give us Hydro Plants. Fortunately, we had another RA coming in as a reserve, and could get them in time.
Policywise, we skipped Tradition entirely until the Liberty, Piety and Freedom branches were completed and we got Scholasticism from the Patronage branch. I figure that the completion bonuses of these branches were more important than e.g. the wonder production bonus. This meant, of course, that Legalism was used on Broadcast Towers.
In the end game, Coal became a big issue. Several city states had some, a couple of tiles were in fact already mined, but none of the AI knew Scientific Theory and therefore neither did they! One coal source sat right outside the workable city radius of Tarsus. Thanks to Angkor Wat, Tarsus expanded rapidly, but the hill could be claimed by a Chinese city that was a mere 2 tiles away at any moment. Luckily, it wasn't, and Tarsus had 7 Coal on turn 206.
The final policy came in on turn 241. We managed to cascade sufficient overflow in the capital to build Utopia in only 7 turns.
During these last seven turns, as a token of revenge against the AI, we founded 10 additional towns, some of which grew to size 5. One of them finally gave us Whales and our 7 core cities rejoiced.

I thought about founding on your Ecbatana grapes site for the Monastery culture, and founded a Bactria city to provide the harbour connection for Ecbatana. I couldn't get a Settler to the site before China settled it - it's a heck of a long way. Cool to see that you pulled it off.
Researching Optics reduced the number of turns to get to those grapes. I would have liked to settle the Whales/Sugar site south of Monaco, too, but Rome got there very early.
I opted for a road rather than a harbour, since I wanted to connect Tarsus (on the central grasses) as well, and also because this way our Knight could easily move from one war front to another.
With the road going through Helsinki land, an ally, it wasn't all that expensive.
