TSG26 After Action Report

His abilities suited me just fine, i bought many a cheap tile.

I ran this again, got it down to 211 turns. any serious movement downwards in turn time would be down to better RA manipulation.

I was in a race to beat the clock... only like 15 turns left before Darius would win a Time victory.

What happened? Well, I focused on Scince, Culture, and managing my empire figuring I'd get the cash to buy CS's once I was clear to get the UN. This was a bad strategy... I should have focused on CS's earlier instead of all those RA's. By the time I was ready to start buying them up, Arabia had 9 and I had 2... and had to keep outbidding Darius for the thrid. Building wealth and using gold focus in all my cities, I could not compete with Arabia for CS's. Did the game get patched lately to make AI more centred on city states???

Anyhow... I WAY overshot the science part. Could have done a decent space race. I even had a GE for the UN (built it later than I could have because was working on getting gold... ughh). I quickly realized I was in an unteneble situation that called for a drastic change of plans. So I build a few units and DOW'd Arabia. Unfortunately, I played that badly and lost my initial force... did not scout adequately. Slammed my head against Mecca one more time before realizing that taking the Eastern CS on his continent would be easier, and give me the needed bridgehead. Battleships are marvelous. By the time I took that, I had a lot of fighting to hold position before I got B17's on the scene. But still no headway until they were upgraded to Stealth Bombers -- which totally kick butt! And a few mobile sams and modern armor, and viola.... the cities start falling. I used a nuke to clear out Mecca because the clock was really ticking now. Finally, I take Mecca and then get peace for all his gold (about 2000) which I use to buy up city states I used to be at war with. Note, he couldn't hold his city states while at war and was down to 6. But there were only 11 left in the game!

Got a GM at a very timely time, and was able to get some influence and cash, and finally got my 10th vote 6 turns before the vote. Then Darius outbids me. So I outbid him next turn and immediately DOW Darius (very cheesy, imho). He was very close to capturing one of my CS's when the vote comes up and I win. I was planning to nuke his units attacking that CS, but my nuke took one turn too many coming from Arabia. Which was a darn good thing because after the game was over and submitted, I nuked those units and the CS became very angry with me.

By then, Monte (who had captured all of England) was completely captured by Darius, who was now working on taking Ghandi. I had nobody to trade with and until I got the Rationalism happiness civic, I was at -12. Ouch. That put me up to +11, though. :D I stink stink stink at this game, btw. Wish there were SGOTM's so I could learn from some experts - can't stand just spectating someone else's game, thouhg.

I really wanted to (a) reload from my t148 save... that's when I noticed things starting to go against me in retrospect; or (b) win by a different VC which would have been simplicity itself (only Darius and I had our capitols at the end; only one Appollo program built and I was starting Giant Death Robots -- still haven't seen one in action). Anyhow, I stuck it out and proved that there are more than one way to skin a cat.

Now, one complaint... no more Washington, pl4ease. at least not for a while.:p

Congratulations Swede for sticking it out! :goodjob:

May do another in your honor, just for fun? :mischief:

I finally found what fit best with my settings to make decent videos. I first tried to upload the completed game but with no success. I uploaded 2 times the 1st 15 min part but with a big lack of quality(1 try at 320p and another at 480p).

I finally went for videos at 1.5X speed, which is actually prety nice to watch i think. It reduces the total file size so i can put better quality(720p). No sound because of higher speed.

Part 1 is online.

Part 2 is on.

Part 3 and others can be viewed from larger screen for better view.

Edit : Part 3 is ready.

Part 4 ready.

Part 5 is ready.

Part 6 is ready.

Part 7 is ready.

Part 8 is ready.

Part 9 is ready.

Part 10 is ready.

Part 11(last part) is ready.

turn 151 win, for some reason eror in submiting.

Well guess I played it pretty much like most ones - 4 city buildup - stated last 100 turns in progression thread.
Afterwards it was signing RA and grwing cities huge while managing happyness- had in end 400-500 bakkers. - used 7 scientists, rati finisher all in 1 turn to bulb last techs.
What helped been most other civs being pretty cash loaded.
In end GA I had myself + 300 gpt :)

Built UN in 3 turns with rushing it with an engi (double pop with scientist in turn before in cap) - early 2 engis where used on PT and Taj. And buying waterpowerhouse. Killed a city state for the alu.

Think I played pretty well overall ... :)

but well just the recoring didnt work .. sometimes it works (in mp games it worked twice now) but very often the video shows black screen only after like 1 min of recording ...

:hmm: Are you sure it was the end of game save that you tired to upload. The error would indicate that it was the initial save to me?

Please check and let us know. I've asked AlanH to check on it.

I'm getting the same error as tommynt, maybe it has something to do with starting the game after the recent update? Although the update didn't really change single player much...

Welcome to CivFanatics and Game of the Month. :wavey:

I'm getting the same error as tommynt, maybe it has something to do with starting the game after the recent update? Although the update didn't really change single player much...
Excellent point. I'll bring that up with AlanH.

Please keep your save until we get this ironed out. Thank you for your patience.

The update has changed the save file version from 7 to 8, and it crashes the parser. I'm investigating what has changed.

[EDIT]
The changes are significant  It'll take a bit of work to fix the parser for the new version.

I've adapted the parser to handle one or two files I have access to that are saved with the new patch. Please try resubmitting the ones that have failed, and we'll see if I have fixed the problems.

If you do get an error message when you try to upload your saves, please attach them to your post in this thread. That will give Alan a larger sample to use and help him to get the parser working properly.

Thank you all again for your patience and cooperation.

Thanks for the welcome wagon lief :) I've submitted a few times but haven't posted yet, guess there was no real reason to before. ^.^

BTW: Upload worked!

I'm still getting used to playing for speed instead of what I see as "fun" (building everything regardless if I need it or not :P) Gandhi and Elizabeth both got wiped out while I had an RA, so that was a bit unlucky. Besides that I tried to build too many wonders that I didn't honestly need.

Thanks for putting us on an island. A lot easier when you don't have to build any army at all. The city state north of me built my whole army.

Thanks. That should mean the rest of the saves for this game will work OK now, unless Firaxis have done something very sneaky.

Following on from my in progress post, things went more or less as predicted. I built 3 more cities to claim all the luxuries on my continent, met all AI's and tried to drain them of cash as often as possible. I kept a lot of cash back for CS influence after UN. Once that was done it was just a case of giving them all a nice Christmas present each.

I lost count of my GS's, probably 9, but only 2 GE's, one of which I used on PT, so I had to hard build UN for 8 turns

Everything was peaceful although Harun eventually became hostile.

I enjoyed the faster pace and will try this again in the future. If I could improve things, it would be to have built one less city (I had 5) and micro manage each city a lot more. I have just taken a peek at Tabarnak's videos and they were most instructional - many thanks, Tabarnak for taking the time to put it all together.

2:24, considering i also browsed the net and talked on the phone 20 min...it's ok. Wasn't used to quick...that was painfully obvious when i was in the 1880's and after a "few" turns i was already in the 1920's ....seems 2 years pass per turn here..oh well.

Settled on the spices on the east of the river, slapped myself in the face later because i saw i can't make any excellent cities around the capital now, so i settled to the SW and SE later on for gold and production.
Didn't have problems with barbs, waited for astronomy to go explore everyone - liked the land that England had, by the time i had 3-4 riflemen ready to attack Elisabeth, Darius already wiped Elisabeth off the face of the earth, so i just attacked him instead - caught him with his pants down - he only had trebuchets/pikes/longswords - he did have that annoying Great Wall though - but he paid the price - destroyed 1 city, captured 2, got another 3 for peace. He was down to 2 cities.

After that i just signed some Ra's with him and Ghandi, got some 6 GE's and 6-7 GS's over the course of the game, about half were used to build academy's/manufactories.
Policies - went Tradition-> Patronage -> Rationalism +1 point in autocracy
Wonders - 25 in Capital, some others in the other cities too.
Science/Gold/Cult = 1000/450/300 inside a golden age and with wealth+gold focus in the 3 core cities

I knew the result was not very good, started my first city in place and had only 2 cities for a long time, later on build 5 smaller cities around them. that did not work out very well :(. It was a peaceful game, I had the votes of 15 CS in the end, but Darius still had 5k gold.
Time played was not as high as this, I sometimes leave a game open for several hours, doing other things in the mean time. Probably around 4h playtime, which still is comparably long.
