Very happy with this finish! see my In-Progress report for the first 80 turns, I think that's where the key decisions were.
from T80 to T150 I focused on maximizing culture, and science progress to advanced through the ages as quickly as possible. got Archeology at T150, and opened Freedom at t152. went back then to get Iron working, Workshop etc. thinking I didn't need to get to much farther in tech. but I ended up later teching to get Broadcast tower, so maybe that was a mistake not to beeline all the way to Broadcast Tower to begin with.
pic below for city at end with 33 pop (excess Faith is there because I was saving it for a GA at the end to launch into a Golden Age during Utopia construction, but I didn't need it because I was in a natural golden age already):
At one point I had 10 GAs planted for monuments and I think my culture/turn peaked around 880 before I started replacing them with mines and a Manufactory.
don't know if I could have done this more than a few turns faster. It might be possible to get under t230. Some ideas:
- beeline for Broadcast tower before ironworking etc.
- better hammer overflow management at the end. could have shaved a few turns there. I had only 360 hammers saved for the Utopia project.
- Probably near the end it would have been better to use the GAs for golden ages rather than planting them.
-the biggest opportunity for improvement early in the game might be to give up ToA and focus on finding and allying cultural CSs quicker.
- my Religion was pretty good, (but maybe getting it, and the cathedral, earlier would have helped)
On a side note, I spent probably 40 turns looking for the last of the 16 CSs, and couldn't find it, clearing almost the whole map.
then I realized that Halie had annexed Ragusa. doh!
A fun game, thanks Hammer_Rabbi!
