TSG48 After Action Report

You can give 200g to CS to get any tile improvement instantly.

it wont get you coal, one more civ besides you needs to get the tech before it becomes available for CSs. in this case you can let AI steal your techs, it makes RAs cheaper, makes CS hook up strategis rez faster and you dont have to worry about them catching up militarily as they wont be able to succesfully invade you anyway.

Not that i am an expert at this but the way i bulbed was:

settle 1st GS

bulb one to get Labs

wait for labs to be built everythwere and factories with order bonus then start bulbing towards Apollo ( i did not give myself 8 turns for full effect of higher science as i wanted to start apollo asap)

then wait if i am sure i wont have enough to complete the tree and i usually dont have enough (5th city or earlier puppets would have helped) then bulb the rest leaving the last ones to Ratio finisher and Oxford.

i have hard time timiing this so usually get one branch in this case lower (last two techs) with ratio and if i didnt mismanage my last GS i would have bulbed nano with Oxford but i had to reverse it and use it on an an earlier tech.

Sometimes i will use Oxford on plastics as i might have done here, its early enough and cap has lots of science bonuses and even the extra 3 science adds up.

After losing Oracle my bad luck continued when i also lost Machu Picchu on the same turn than the AI

My tech rate was kind of slow until the middle of the game. My 2 cities put near Hiawatha resulted into a DoW from him but i repulsed his army for a great peace deal. They growed fast enough to counter a bit the overall slow start. Same thing happened when i settled a 6th city for the coal on Siam's land. Another peace deal occured.

When i discovered the +10 gold wonder site it was already too late to settle more cities. In fact, i should build 2 triremes instead of just 1 on these kind of maps. I still didn't regret to settle 1 east.

I signed 2 waves of 2 RAs. They were somewhat weak but the last wave occured right on time for a 3 turns saving for last part.

I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO BULLY CS WHEN EXPLORING...nuf said

Capital built Statue of Liberty and Hubble near the end :

Lalibela built Apollo. Gondar built Petra. These 2 cities were pretty productive.

Okay how do you bulb at the end precisely?

In this game I was mostly guessing on how to use my GS in an nice way. This was the first science game for me since the new patch, so I didn't really know how it would turn out without the huge amount of science you would get from late game RA:s pre patch. Apparently I underestimated how powerful Bulbing would be, which was probably caused by having close to 1500 bpt at the peak (unusually high for me).

I settled one GS in the beginning and saved the rest for bulbing. After plastics i went straight for rocketry and started bulbing when I had finished my labs and was close to rocketry. After satellites I went for adv. ballistics, nano and finally particle phys. I didn't really count my GS but I would guess I got around 12 of them throughout the game. 4 from wonders, 2 from religion and about 6 from cities.

If I would have known how powerful my GS would be i would have bulbed one for plastics and two more before rocketry.

Good game Tabarnak, looks like extra cities really pay off here. You were more then ten turns behind me for Edu. And more then ten turns ahead to finish. I peaked at about 1k bpt and bulbed mostly in 850-950 range. We both lost oracle to even things out, I did get MP but lost FP. I also thought I would have more happy issues, hence the boneheaded peace garden belief, if I knew I would be ok I would have built one more city.

A 6th city, Oracle for rationalism and Machu Pichu combined with a massive bullying cs from the start is the perfect recipe for a good game :)

I bulbed for Plastics and Rocketry once. IIRC we don't need to wait 8 turns anymore to get max bulbing power. Am i right?

nice game, AE. I built my cities in pretty much the same places but finished about 50 turns later. I think in games on the lower levels with not many RAs, it makes sense to save almost all scientists instead of settling. Pretty sure that's where I went wrong (settled 4 academies but only signed 3 RAs all game).

My first official GOTM try. Was only able to do RA's with Attila throughout the game, everyone else was too broke or didn't like me enough. No major wars, Byzantium and Siam were occasional nuisances. I wasn't able to secure any coal until I completed the Apollo Program, that probably set me back at least ten or so turns.

ended this turn 213

game:
settle in place and buy cow as soon as 50 gold
BO stele- start worker - granny - finish worker - units to explore - gl - lighthouse - wonders
settled 2 more cities only 1 at the obvious university spot on isle and 1 at south
thought about 1 more at the 10 gold spot but somehow didnt do it as it was like turn 80 when i had gold for settler and expected city not to grow enough - should still have settled
allied kinda all CS and went to kill some cities from ai with gifted units
anaxed all cities and rush bought tech buildings in them

peeked science at 1600 only - 4th big city was just missing

might have shaved off a turn or 2 in end by bit better calculating

sub t200 was hard on this map i think

uploading final part atm

edit: ah yes did some serious CS bulieing - like 3 waves of bulies
missed timing into rati tree a bit and had 2 patronage before rati, whats not been that bad as it could aly all CS pretty soon with this boosts - just when I took the policy and had some gold (before buying science stuff) kinda all CS had the help me build quest

had overall 15 policies - guess thats kinda good in a t213 win
the jungle pantheon helped there i guess

edit 2:
I bulbed for Plastics and Rocketry once. IIRC we don't need to wait 8 turns anymore to get max bulbing power. Am i right?
I think that might be possible - I got more science from bulbs as i expected and therefore overteched slightly in end
some1 know how the bulb now works exactly?

I am almost too embarrassed to post this. Not because of the score (although that was rubbish), but because I made the most stupid error. My last RA with Theo I thought was for RA + 200g, but I wasn't concentrating and offered her RA + 200gpt. Unsurprisingly, she took it. Ouch, ouch , ouch. I really should have declared war immediately, but it wasn't really in the spirit of GOTM & I decided to learn from mistakes big time and anyway, she was heavily armed and I had one LS plus a scout.

I had planned to use that money for late game science and production buildings.

And it started so well, following similar lines to most others. SIP place one more city on the starting island by the wine. Another one on the southern island plus a 4th by the 10g NW. I did plop down a 5th later in the game well to the east of Siam for coal, silver and wine. Entirely peaceful game.

Pretty much just cruised to victory, knowing I was never in danger of being attacked, let alone losing. My spaceship building was horribly inefficient, had to wait about 5 turns for my last part to travel from an island to my capital.

My first GOTM. Looking at everybody else's scores, it looks like I have room to improve. But I haven't played a whole lot of Civ V, so that's to be expected. I settled in place, built Harar four tiles east, Adwa on the island to the south, and then basically turtled up with those cities, until I realized I had no coal and founded a fourth city on a distant island. None of the AIs bothered me all game. The only war I had was a token war at the end — Hiawatha was about ready to finish off Theodora and asked me to join. I said yes, just to keep on Hiawatha's good side, didn't even engage in battle, and quickly signed a peace treaty.

Isabella sent a Great Prophet to convert my capital to Christianity. I promptly converted it back to my religion, surrounded Addis Ababa and Harar with units, and her damn Great Prophet wandered around my island for the entire rest of the game. She made several passes by Genoa with it, but clearly she wanted to convert my capital. I wish there was something you could do about that other than use a bunch of units to block the way...

Welcome to GOTM. :wavey:

No worries, most of us have room to improve. That is what we are all about. :)

Best of luck in future.

Lucky for you, you can! Camp an inquisitor at a city and it can't be converted.

I did not do everything that I perhaps should have done to have an earlier victory. Settled in opening spot. Started out completing the Tradition tree, and rushing the Great Library. Settled two more cities, one to the East, and one to the island to the south.

As far as religion is concerned, went with God of the Sea, Monasteries, Tithes, Divine Inspiration, and Religious Texts. Focused on becoming allied to all City-states, and going Patronage tree for scientific bonuses. All cities states were allies by Renaissance period.

Next focused on Rationalism, but did not complete it until modern era. Had a total of 8 cities. Went to war only once against the Spanish, in order to take a city that had great resources. Used four submarines to blockade the Spanish main-island (they were still in renaissance period). Sunk everything that tried to leave the island. They sued for peace not too long after I took the city I wanted.

In the end, peaked out at about 1550 science per turn. Relatively calm game (not too much occurred). Should have been a faster victory though, if I had done some things differently.
