Apologies as there will be a 24 to 48 hour delay in the release of TSG71 due to beta patch issues.

If you plan to play TSG71 and downloaded the patch, you will need to:
Remove the beta:

  1. Right-click on the game name in Steam, or the SDK within the Tools section of Steam, and select “Properties”.
  2. Select the “BETAS” tab.
  3. Select “None” from the pull-down menu.
  4. Click “Close”.
  5. Within a few minutes, the build will revert to the public retail version.
If you do not remove the beta, you will most likely be able to play the save but you will not be able to submit it. You will also be playing a different game from everyone else.

As we do not know when the Fall Patch might actually arrive, we have decided not to wait for it. Should the Fall Patch arrive during the games (TSG70 or 71), we will do what we have always done with Civ5. We will need to update the submission system, so you may have to maintain your saves until the system has been updated before you can submit. If you attempt to submit and the system fails to accept it, please be patient.

Thank you for your understanding.

Any chance you'd tell us which Civ, VC and difficulty level the next one will be so we can try some practice games while we wait? In fact. telling us these 3 things for every GoTM a day or two before it's released could let us all get some practice in before each one. We still won't know what the map type is nor what the starting area looks like until release.

Maybe for this time, but I don't think giving info before the game is a good idea - these games run a month, so there is plenty of time for people to do practice games if they need to.
I however want that excitement for when I actually play the game, not 3 days before and then when I can start it it's all gone already.

I support the advanced notice. I think it would improve participation. I often do not start any games a day or two before release because I dont want to shelf them on game day. A day or two for practice runs would be perfect, and fair.

Personally, I don't think we should have any advanced notice. That's part of the GOTM challenge, not knowing what you're getting into. Also, the games you play outside of GOTM should be your "practice."

You should be able to play any map, any setting, any civilization; whatever the game hands you. This is what you should be working towards in your development as a Civ player.

Just my two cents, for what it's worth.

Looks like it. Just need to check things before we release the save.

All those playing TSG70, if you patch, you will not be able to submit until we get the new parser working. Please be patient, thanks.

Looks like there is a change to DV on the patch. From the release notes " Made Diplo Victory more difficult by increasing the delegates needed to win."

Well, it remains ugly for a comparison game because of the timing of the vote. You can be 10 turns faster than another player only to finish 10 turns later.

You will be playing as Venice on Prince difficulty with a designated Diplomacy VC.
I thought it might be this.

This is the default setting for steam.
You can disable it though, go to the game properties in steam, then open "Update" menu.
Steam has a bad habit of reverting back to auto-update every time you launch Steam. So the best way is to stay in offline mode.

Diplo vc is still a complicated math instead of empire building, as long getting techs sooner result later victory, I do not feel the need to play :(

Math is not so complicated. It is enough to fire GS(s) to hit Information Era just before congress meeting not after. But if you are late by one turn, you win 30 turns later. And this should be fixed certainly.

Yeah, GOTM 70 is going to be a problem for anyone who hasn't submitted. I'm on another playthru and the game auto patched on me (I didn't even realize until this morning). My saves worked fine and I kept on rolling, but now they are unusable on my unpatched Mac.

Waiting to release GOTM 71 until after the patch is available on PC and Mac would be best, IMO.
