tubes - am i missing something?

When I first bought Alpha Centauri I was frustrated by the fact that I couldn't figure out why my formers weren't able to build mag tubes. I just loaded it again, having forgot about that, but I've found the problem again. Am I missing something?

First, you probably already know this, but you need to discover a certain tech (Monopole Magnets) before your formers can build mag tubes.

If that's not the problem, then make sure that you're fully patched. There were problems with mag tubes in the early releases.

You might need to build a road in the squares you want to put magtubes on.

it was an issue with not having the patch. last time i had it installed i only played the game until the tech for magtubes about twice, and i never figured the issue out, i didn't realize the patch solved the problem
