Tupac08 - Simply Sid

That's still a long way from mil. tradition. Not all that experienced with Sid, but I had half hoped it would get us a few techs past education. I'm guessing the prolonged wars slowed down the tech pace somewhat, and what is it with Korea lacking currency.

I think we should:
  • :)Revolt immediately to Republic
  • ;)Start upgrading our swordsmen, chariots and cats, at least start with a good force for the Portugal cities
  • :mad:Start a war with Portugal, booting them from our continent and triggering our GA
  • :crazyeye:Prepare for a war with the Mongols, soon or right after. (Ideally we might fish for leaders if Portugal starts ferrying troops across, so we can start the second war with an army)

It would be awesome if we could face the Mongols before their UU.

I agree with that plan, we probably have enough to take the 2 portugese cities now but lets upgrade the swords to MI and then go for it. The thing about SID is that windows of opportunity are very short, so lets not hold off too long. If we're doing it lets do it sooner rather than later. I suggest,

1) Revolt to Republic immediately
2) use all our cash upgrading our swords to MI and at least one Swiss Merc
3) war with Portugal, maybe even before revolt is over.

We can revolt, move our troops back to barracks to upgrade, send them back out, and attack immediately upon getting back into position. That should put the attack reasonably close to the end of our anarchy, so that we'll have reinforcements before Portugal can get any other troops to us.

I agree with consensus we can get some knights from chariots too, if we sell lit to portugal for cash we can use money for upgrades

Another comment to make is we should try to delay GA until we are in republic if we can.

Here is the save. I have left all military units with movement, as I think we need to have a consensus on whether we declare now or wait longer. We have four turns left of anarchy.

Turn 5:
Revolt. 9 turn anarchy. :(
Trade literature to Portugal for 532 g, Babylon for 8 g + 11 gpt, China for 1 g + 11 gpt. I was going to take the workers, but somehow I missed it. Sorry.
Upgrade & move units for upgrading.
IBT: China takes Mongol town of Choybalsan

Turn 6:
Working on upgrading.
IBT: Korea and Mongols sign peace treaty. Den Helder flips to Portuguese.

Turn 7:
Continue upgrading and moving back into position.
IBT: Spearman moves toward Den Helder.

Turn 8:
Move units toward Portuguese towns. Braga still has a spear showing.
IBT: Nothing of note

Turn 9:
Move units some more. Portugal has invention.
IBT: Portuguese spear goes wandering in our lands.

Turn 10. Babylon has invention. Ask Portugal to withdraw their troops, but don't get a remove or declare option.

I decide to leave all the military units unmoved. We have 4 turns left on our anarchy. Braga is now size 6, but I thought it was size 7 earlier. We have a knight, 4 MIs, a Swiss merc, and 7 trebuchets ready to move on Braga. We have 6 MIs and 2 Swiss mercs by Faro/Den Helder. They remain defended by spears, but two warriors have pulled back into the towns.

Our choices:
Declare now.
Wait until we have fewer turns in our anarchy.

I'm leaning toward declaring now, but 4 turns is a long time to be in anarchy. Additionally, because we are in anarchy, we can't investigate to see what's in each town. I think it would be worthwhile to bribe some neighbors into the war on our side if we decide to declare now.

If we declare now, there is a curragh north of Portugal that needs to be moved out of Portuguese waters before declaring. It has movement enough to leave and return to coastal waters after the declaration.

I moved the knight away from the stack because there was a warrior sitting near Leiden; if we declare now the knight can pick up the worker on the way in if we like.

I have had a look, declare now isnt without risk, however I am in favour

The good news the portugese cant get Iron to their cities on our continent

Looks like we'll also lose Harlingen to the Mongols (flip chance is 4,9-9,8%), I think we should abandon it for now. We should probably delay military for a bit to get libraries in our core first once we're out of GA.

One important thing, should we raze the towns? At the very least Braga should be razed I think, since it's so close to a Korean town. So the northern stack of military units needs a settler to replace Braga after it's razed to the ground.

I agree with del62, declare ASAP and avoid GA in anarchy.

OK played my set, we did lose Harlingen to the mongols but not by a flip.

The good news is the Portugese no longer have a town on our continent, I raised both their towns recapturing Der Helder

I have Military Alliances with Chinese, Korans and Americans against Portugese,
The Chinese are also at war with the Koreans, Portugl Signed the Koreans against China, so I signed Korea against Portugal just to mix it up

The Portugese signed Mongols against us, thats were city was lost.

We have an Army though and are in a position to make a push against mongols, we are also in GA.

An army and no Portuguese cities nearby are great news. It would have been nice if war with the Mongols could have been delayed, but their war with China has been good for us, so it may work out. A two front war won't be fun, but perhaps the Americans can keep the Portuguese occupied.

There was a settler in Eindhoven. Did it go to replacing one of the Portuguese towns?

Yep it did, I spent so much time putting military battles in log, I forgot to mention 2 towns settled (one will need culture expansion against Korean culture , in a way I proably should have signed mongols into allaince against portugese and seen 20 turns out.

Must say you did an admirable job considering the circumstances.

Considering it's Easter it will be Tuesday when I can really sit down for my turns, family and all.

In Harlingen the population will be all Mongol due to the flip, correct?

No they took it, not a flip though pop doesnt change on flip, just gifts,

got lucky with leader from first elite victory,

Right, you stated it clearly and I even read it a few times. Shouldn't be drinking before 2 pm. :mischief:

Finished my turnset. We now have two armies and saw an increase in our military. We do have the first stage of war weariness however, since when Keshiks appeared, I was a little unprepared and they managed to take Maastricht for 1 turn. Other than that I went 40 of 44 battles, including a few defense battles. So we'll have some room before stage 2 of war weariness.

We are at war with the Mongols, Portuguese, Incans and Babylonians, but we can negotiate with each of them.

The Mongols have Keshiks and Musketmen, but having pillaged a few roads, the area is now a pretty easy killing zone for our side.

Our Cultural situation has improved, with only 3 towns with flipchances, not higher than 1.2 %.

The Mongols like to land units around Amsterdam and the Hague, so make sure the mountains and hills are defended. Otherwise it's a pain to get rid of them.

It's important to manage The Hague's knight production, after 1 turn at 20 shields, rush a settler to take 1 turn of the knight production.

Late edit: I think our goal should be to take at least Dalandzadgad, Harlingen and Erdenet and from there prepare to take the Chinese towns.

Our empire. Note the Mongol Galley on our western coast, I left a few units with their movement so the next player can plan for a possible landing.

With current placement of units, Mongols will likely land units 1 SE of The Hague. A few towns have grass being irrigated, but I think after forbidden palace, they will be productive. So the next player needs to form a long term goal of our western territory.

Looks good, I agree with your Mongol Targets, If we move army next to Dalzagbad we can cut of flow of troops from mongols, build a town on place where Keshik is and with cultural expansion we can stop mongol flip risk completely, destroying the afore mentioned towns

I think as soon as alliances run out make peace with Portugal and others, are Korea and China still at war?

Korea made peace with the Portuguese, but China is still going at it, we have an alliance with them for 4-5 turns if I recall correctly.

Busy, busy times gentlemen. Looking good so far :goodjob:
