If you have stone, you can use walls (100% to production) to turbo chop a lot of city improvements/units or possibly other wonders which require marble (which you don't have). You just have to time the chop of all available forest squares to finish before the wall finishes and you get the 100% bonus to production carried over to the next improvements you build.

Combining this early game with a forge and organized relgion can give quite a boost, producing every turn something.

Finally you can use your wall for something useful, For the rest they are pretty useless imo ;) Anyway, it feels a bit cheesy. I just tried this and had a surplus of 783 / 75 when completing the wall... And it was not even the great wall... :crazyeye:

The same would work if chopping barracks with Toku or other city improvements for which your leader has a 100% bonus. Though the walls are nice and cost only about a single 2/3 forest square.

I think he means this:

Lets say you have 5 workers simultaneously chopping 5 forests in the same city. Let's further say that city is building something for which you have a major bonus due to leader attribute and/or resource.

The 'production carryover' is reflective of the item you were building, so you in effect double the value of a chop. In this case, walls cost like 50, but have double speed with stone, so if you have stone, chopping 5 - 30 point forests would normally yield 150 hammers, but if you are working on walls they yield 300 hammers. So you get a 250 hammer carryover to the next item in your queue.

It doesn't work. All bonuses are subtracted off the overflow before it is carried forward. Also, you can only overflow as much as the current build costs. So if you did get 150 hammers of base production to rush a wall with stone, 25 would be spent to build the wall (with 100% bonus), 50 would overflow (as 50 hammers, not 100), and the other 75 would be lost.

So not only does this not grant you any benefit, trying it will tend to penalize you greatly!

Agreed with Beamup.

You can't use bonuses to buildings to help boost your shields for the following build item.
You are playing with the v1.52 patch right?
Can you post a screenshot of this working, for example a s/shot of mousing over the production details on the build item immediately after the wall? This s/shot would detail how much overflow you get exactly.

Yes, Beamup and PieceOfMind, you're right. Tried it today at home with the 1.52 patch and it isn't working. Before I used probably an unpatched version at a friend's place. But it was late and we played for many hours. So, it could be I'm gravely mistaken  I'll check it next time when I'm there.
