Turn 200-209

We can also strike first and take six infantry and two galleons this turn. Lets not fool ourselves, I mean can anybody propose some peaceful purpose for those loaded troop ships?

They are going to another team is the only other explanation, which would explain the sudden level of troops levels. Has there been any activity on the Loco land bridge?

personally i think we should take a first strike against them if they haven't moved away by our next turn (they still have to play their turn before that anyway)

Also do all of Epsilon units face south?

BTW thanks for posting pictures :goodjob:

There is a third galleon, within range of Powderton this time. 2 cannons and an infantry is a strange load though.

Also to revise a previous post, if we strike first we can only sink the galleon apparently heading toward Chowderton.

Yes, by all means change civics. We're spiritual and can afford it even if the 0.1% chance that Epsilon are just fooling around comes true.

We can't pillage roads in our own territory, though. ;)

edit: just noticed the new thread page - I agree that using the strike first doctrine is best in this case, unless their next move reveals that it was just all a demonstration of power (very unlikely).

So Theo and Joe, by "first strike' you mean hit them next turn right? I think that they will probably land troops and take one of our southern cities on their next turn. But as I said a first strike means sinking only 1 galleon out of the three that we know of.

So this turn we'll change civics, use the artist, defend our stuff and ask Epsilon what's up. I think the only other idea was to surrender. Maybe we can pull that ace out next turn if needed. :)

Okay new civics are hereditary rule, Nationalism, Slavery, Mercantilism and Theocracy.

Drafted three rifles and spent all our money on unit upgrades. Every city is building troops (except for one which wild build a settler just in case we want to be annoying) so can rush some more cavalry next turn too.

Unfortunately science is hurt bad, at 70% radio was going to take 12 turns now. It looks like a long shot so I just put science to 0 so we have more gold for upgrades.

I've alerted Aloha.

Could this be a multiple strike, not just against us, surely Epsilon would get a bigger force to take us over if we were their only concern?

Also if they haven't moved away by the next turn i would take a first strike if possible, or something happens on the diplomactic scene

Will we be able to take more galleons if we wait anothe turn with the first strike? (which might not be a first strike by then, but anyway...).

Spoiling a well-prepared multiply strike plan for Epsilon would be worth it all though. And there's always the plan-B: surrender.

Economy-wise, I don't think we should cheapskate-ish with our population. Draft as much as possible and whip the rest away, otherwise we wo't have enough troops. Also, remember that whipped units get 6xp/two promotions while drafted ones get 3xp/one promotion (assuming religion is present) so we might want to use the whip more than the draft. I'm not sure if it's cost-effective, though?

First the bad news.

Things are actually worse than you may at first have thought from watching the EEN vid. The captured Chowderton (now Clam Chowder) Suth'n Comfort (now ruins) and Port Tropicana (now Port Freedom) and landed troops outside Powderton.

To suplament the screenshots: at sea they still have 2 galleons and 3 cannons outside Port T, 2 galleons 1 infantry 2 cannons outside the city formerly known as Suth'n Comfort and off shore of Chowderton are 3 frigates 3 galleons 3 infantry and a cannon.

What do we have? Jack squat. Aloha gave us Assembly line so we can draft infantry now, but we can only do it a few more times before our population is too low for drafting or rushing.

The good news is that when this is all over we can join Epsilon and win the game! :king:

We tried, and lost. Well, I don't really mind losing against such a good opponent. Let's try to resist as long as possible though. Drafted Infantry might still hurt their invasion.

Let's give them a bloody nose, and if possible hit them below the belt, metaphorically speaking.

I was trying to think up some clever defense but in the end I got nothing. We are just in no condition to be fighting their infantry. So a bloody nose would be kind of a stretch, but if we just pull everything back to Wheelville we can maybe stub their toe real good.

We did manage to sink a galleon, a caravel and a frigate but we lost an ironclad and a frigate of our own in the attacks.

Worst turn ever.

Damn. Ah well, you can't compete with superior technology... it's what wins almost all of the multiplayer games I've ever played in (including the recently finished Intersite Democracy Game).

I would claim a small victory for that one (better than what Loco ever manged)

I agree, we know we are finished, so we need to concentrate our forces, is there anyway of doing what Germany did when retreating from Russia and burning down some of the improvements? Plus build cannons, the collatarel damage is probably the only way for us to stand a chance.

I can't say I'm surprised, but it's a shame to see such good cities fall. It also ruins our chances of a getting a second place...

I'm mostly for the retreat-to-Wheelville strategy, perhaps spiced up with a runaway settler just to annoy them? Then again, we probably just want this to be over as quickly as possible, with the maximum amount of damage to epsilon possible.

Our galleons were about to be sunk and since they have no more passengers I decided to take a shot and at least deprive Epsilon of an extra experience point. However 0.6% and 1.3% just didn't pan out.

We have quite a few infantry now, like 10 at the end of the turn along with similar amounts of cavalry. Units are concentrating in Wheelville while Epsilon's fleet assembles just outside the bay. Our two ironclads will hopefully delay the amphibious assault long enough for us to concentrate enough units and acquire some fortify bonuses.

This could be a big turn for us so I want to give you all a chance to to give me some ideas.

They landed more troops outside Powderton. The only question is weather to ditch and have our three units run away or should they die were they are. The long shot would be to suicide the cannon and upgrade our defenders to infantry, then harass them next turn with cavalry.

We can continue to pile units in Wheelville but even then its probably just a matter of time or we can make a crazy attack and try to take back Chowderton. Our two Ironclads are holding off their invasion but they have two frigates and a few empty galleons, they can get through went they want. Also they probably still have that spy around Wheelville so they will probably be able to see our defence.

I vote to give crazy a try on both plans, because at this point, what the hell. :spear:

Let's risk it. The worst thing that could happen is that we lose faster.

A less risky strategy would only decide how soon we are wiped, while those crazy ideas actually have a minimal chance of success and who cares that the loss will be faster, as it would have been a loss anyway.

In other words, I vote for 1889's nutcase strategy. ;)
