Turn Discussion Thread

BLubmuz: Discussing longer term plans with Amazon seems like a good idea. Given our current agreements and the state of the game, what would you suggest we propose in this regard? (we can discuss this here or the Amazon diplomacy thread)

We haven't had much military build-up since we have been focusing on expansion most recently. I still think we need more cities founded, and soon (capturing Carib will help). My idea for Arcturus was to get a barracks there (after the forge) and start making macemen. Vega and Canopus should also be good production cities after we get forges built. I will also remind everyone that although things seem to be developing slowly, we haven't even reached turn 100 yet. The rapid tech research makes it seem as if it is later in the game than it is.

AlphaShard: I checked the game to see if it was up, and looked around. I didn't mess with anything, except I changed the tile assignment in Arcturus to pigs/copper/mine (following HUSch's plan).

I'll try to be more active in the Micro Plan thread. I'm usually pretty strong in MM. Once i have clear the target, of course.

That would be great. We need help in both micro and long term planning. The more specific proposals, the easier it will be to decide on a specific course of action.

Imo strategically Amazon (our neighbor) can't be our long term ally. They are our born enemy.

Because they are neighboring us? We are allied most closely with them at the moment. Given the choice between them and Mavericks, I think I would prefer an alliance with Amazon, just based on their play style.

How are they are Born enemy? I agree with Trystero that so far it is better to be allied with Amazon then Mavericks.

Sure, i'll move there. Will post soon some idea.

Yes, the research rate is just insane.
I agree with our plan to settle like mad, improve the land and keep a poor military.
The problem is after Astro.
This is why i raised the problem of our "allies". Since only Amazon is a true ally and the remaining 2 are just trading partners, it would be easy for them send a galleon to take our almost undefended cities.
So, i think we have to break the ETTA before being forced to give them Astro. Possibly having some other tech before then, since they benefitted far more than us from the tech trades. But this is matter i'll discuss in the Amazon Diplo thread.

This can be true, but what is done is done. We have a NAP with them.

I'd like to also remind that we have a free worker (Husch) with nothing to do sitting in AC. He can start cottaging the River Silk or chopping the other River silk. I do think we may want to plantation one of them,

Also if we break ETTA before Astro we will probably make enemies of CDZ/Quatrona, not saying I'm against it just I feel they WILL be if we do that. I do see that giving them Galleons would leave our cities very vulnarable.

We just got a message from the Amazon that is highly relevant to your concerns, BLubmuz. See here.

No, Neighbors are born enemies in every MP/DG, because there is a more profit after the war.
It was the same in C3, cities far away are useless.

Another, I'm in the game and switch a tile in AC from cottage to hamlet (south of Canopus), the settler in Sirius is early, we have there in 2 turns a nother cottage, but no People to work the tile.

Which is why our initial target will be Mavericks.
I agree that the neighbor is a very precarious position when it comes to who to trust / attack, but if we have shored up one border (AMAZON) then that lets us focus more force on the other borders.

I don't know if we ever decided when we were attacking. People seemed in favor of invading Mavericks' home island with Astronomy, but I don't think it was decided when we were invading -- are we going to bee-line rifles or attack with medeival units? I gave up at asking the question honestly.

With how the tech rate has been progressing, I would almost advocate bee-lining Nationalism and drafting an army. We probably won't have a lot of infrastructure in time for an attack, but we could settle high food locations and draft / whip out an army. This may not work as well if the ETTT goes under at Astronomy, however...

ETTT concerns aside, I always said the plan was to attack at whatever military tech level we were at when we got Astronomy, as long as it was sufficient. As long as Mavericks don't receive a serious technology boost as a side effect of the problems the ETTT is having, it should be sufficient to attack them with Macemen and Trebuchets. We may be behind the ball in general when it comes to production development, but we're not behind Mavericks in that regard particularly, so by 17 turns time I'd expect we'd have the capacity to win a war.

As far as natural enemies go, I don't agree that your neighbours automatically are. We have two neighbours, and we will always have at least two neighbours, and the by far most important thing is that we're not at war with both of them. A long term ally as a neighbour is extremely good in that regard.

Yeah, based on the discussion in the micro thread, AlphaShard, I think we want to grow Sirius to size 9 before we build the settler (I assume that is what Sirius is building based on the screenshot in the Turn Tracker thread). Let's put hammers into a forge or a missionary for now.

I'm guessing Missionary in Sirius, since we can finish it, while a forge we wouldn't. In any case we should definately at least grow to 9 before the settler. Whether we want to then switch AC off of missionary onto something else, or just build two missionaries, I'm not sure. But all these missionaries aren't really helping us knock Mavericks off the map in 17 turns time.

I really need to just open up the test save that Trystero has gone to the trouble of making though and play around. Hopefully I'll get time this week.

OK missionary sounds good. We could also just build a maceman. We definitely need those. I highly doubt we will be prepared to knock off Mavericks in 17 turns, but I know what you mean.

That would be great! Hopefully you haven't preordered Civ5. ;)

I switched Sirius to Missionary, we can send both the Sirius and AC Missionaries out once we've captured Carib.

In the picture sirius build a settler!
We want grow.

btw
Its 550 BC

I think AlphaShard took that screenshot before he switched builds.

Geez, Civ5 is killing the CFC server today.
