Turn Discussion Thread

I waited until the new turn started and I had a look. Here is a small problem:

Pallas has discovered that some of the island's inhabitants aren't too friendly. If we moved SW as planned she could fortify on a jungle hill which would give her decent combat odds, or she could stay one step ahead of the barb. Alternatively, we could move her to the SE to meet up with Enterprise (sorry caveman :)) on her way back north, and possibly disembark onto Andromeda along the way. (I moved Enterprise only 1S so far this turn).

Also, Voyager moved 1SW:

We are in agreement she should move SW into the channel, correct?

Wow the Barbs are certainly coming out in force now aren't they? I vote for retrieving the Warrior and bring him back to Andromeda for backing up the current Warrior there and the Galley going and getting the Settler, hopefully we can time it's arrival for when it gets done.

YEah send the Voyager into the canal, that's my vote on that matter.

I agree with azzaman, Pallas should continue exploring. A barbarian warrior shouldn't be a significant threat. If it finds us and attacks us we'll have good combat odds. The terain of the island seems hilly and forested, making it easy for us to defend ourselves.

The Amazons may already be contributing to anti-barbarian efforts on Andromeda, with their explorer, if it's still on the island, and with the new city they will be placing.

I don't believe we've heard from the Amazons about who was supposed to check out the canal. We should poke in to see if they've already started down it, and hopefully we'll get a message from them soon. I agree that SW is the right move, but we may want to continue around the outside if the Amazons have already taken the canal pathway.

I am also in favor of moving Pallas to the SW jungle hill (fortune favors the bold). What we need now is information, so I think it's worth the risk of barbs.

I also think that perhaps since barbs are starting to show up, Vesta shouldn't move too far from the horse hill so a barb city doesn't spawn in an inconvenient location. Still we should explore the surroundings as much as we can.

We got a message from AMAZON that LP just posted, and they are in agreement Voyager should move into the channel. I'll move the warriors and the ships and post a report later tonight.

I also think Pallas should keep exploring SW. We don't particularly want to kill the barbarian. A barbarian warrior spawnbusts just as well as one of our own, preventing barbarians from spawning within two tiles of it. So killing a barb warrior can just mean letting a barb archer spawn in its place. Better to just ignore it and keep about our business. With all the forest and jungle around it's not a big threat to us anyway.

I think the warrior on Andromeda though should just move to a fugbusting position and fortify. Between Voyager, Enterprise (I'll call it something different if and when it gets renamed in-game) and what AMAZON have told us, my urge to explore Andromeda is quite low. Exactly where the best fogbusting position is needs to be considered in light of AMAZON's message about their current warrior locations.

Just so everyone knows I did switch over all our EP to Merlot last turn.

Moving the warrior revealed a promising site for our 4th (or 3rd?) city:

I have not moved Vesta yet. If she moves back onto the horse hill, I think she will spawnbust the entire area where we would want to settle for horses, so that might be the best move until we can get another warrior over to Andromeda. Let me know what you think.

For reference, here is a screen shot from 2 turns ago (Note that Vesta is now 1SW of the horse hill, and jungle has grown on that tile in the interim):

How long til the settler is over there?

Also, the warrior on the island to our south should head 1NW next turn so we can decide where the optimal place to settle down there.

So, I'm going to make a guess that copper, iron and horses are all in similar positions on the various star points, and none are on people's home islands. A total of four copies of each, two on each of two opposite star points.

In any case, especially given all those people arguing that metal is better than horses, I think we should settle the copper next and leave the horses for later. The horses are ours by negotiation, the copper is only ours if we get there first.

The settler will be complete on T62, and the galley could either offload it to the horses square on T63 or the copper on T64. The only question to me really is whether we settle for coastal-clams-copper, inland-pigs-copper or somwhere else.

Of potential relevence though is the fact that we've just about already built a workboat for improving clams. Also, clams-copper allows an eastern double-clams-pig-hills city for later (2E of the warrior's current location).

I agree with grabbing the resource that is in jeopardy, and settling the south island first

I think a coastal copper city would be better, since our other cities will get access to the resource sooner, and we already have a work boat to improve the clams. I think we should scout further to the west of the copper before deciding on a site. However, I am hesitant to move Palllas north next turn since the barb is still up there.

Vesta could go 1SE > 1SW > 1SW and hop on (and off) Enterprise on her way back.

The potential problems with this are that we leave the horse resource vulnerable to barb settlement, and we'd be leaving the island just after we discussed spawnbusting with AMAZON. However, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind us doing so to snag a valuable resource.

I wonder if that river connects to our ocean. That way we'll have copper and pigs hooked-up right from the start if we settle where the warrior is and clear the fog on the river course, isn't it?

Also, the fog bleed(?) on the S,SE tile from the warrior seems a water tile. Maverick's ocean or a lake?

EDIT: You guys think it would be usefull to have a "State of the Empire" kind of thread? We could use it to regularely update the first post with significant info (cities, wonders, units/major stacks, etc).

I've written something of a diplomacy version of this, just haven't quite finished it and posted it yet. Just a summary of the current diplomatic status basically. I've also made a map to show the locations of the other teams and the names of the continents.

What you suggest sounds useful as well, the only trouble is we need a volunteer to keep it up to date.

I'd keep a potential copper city coastal as well, we should check out the area a little more to be sure about it. As for the warrior next turn it should move to the copper, if it's open. The barbarians will move between turns so we'll have to see where they end up.

Any other opinions about Vesta? Moving her is all that remains for this turn.

I'm favoring moving her over to the other island to assist Pallas and explore (per Irgy's suggestion).

I'd be willing to do this. I'll start a thread later today or tomorrow.

...the only trouble is we need a volunteer to keep it up to date.
I have little to none experience with this, but I can help.

And am I correct with the hooking of the resources, or the game doesn't allow it? Since we already have sailing...
