Turn Discussion Thread

We 've a little more than 4 hours and I must finish in a quarter hour. I hope another can finish the turn., I 've the most moves pained in the game, but you can change anything.

Irgy
we 've no religious buildings. And because of the ETTA we build no Research-wonder liks Lib, Sankore etc.

I can finish the turn if needed, to be clear we are heading toward Mav home Island now correct?

I'd say we certainly should be anyway. It looks to me like Amazon have absolutely smacked that invasion force in the centre, so the race for the spoils has begun. Let's not let Quatronia beat us to it.

EDIT - PS I know this partly because of the message from AMAZON that I'm about to post.

EDIT2 - Ok, and it looks like things aren't so rozy, those blue units they're showing us are Merlot not Amazon like I at first assumed. It sounds like they've dealt with the Maverick units for the most part (although it's hard to tell), but there's still a sizeable force in the centre.

Sorry - I just got home from work. I'll take a look at the game, take some screens, and end the turn if appllicable.

Most definitely yes.

We should have enough available troops to shore up our defenses even if we attack Injinya.

Update: Took pictures and ended the turn. I'll post the report in a little while. The only change I made was to keep moving Pallas toward Vega. We can move the archer there to Procyon, if needed.

Also, the Great Engineer doesn't appear to be moving to Gold City (no Hanging Gardens?).

Update #2: Turn summary posted. Please let me know if I missed something important, since I did not play most of this turn.

They were probably near the total of their first quota and then combining all the units they fought just now would bring it up again. So yeah they probably got a 4th level unit just from that.

I'm used to playing Marathon so it is weird to see such low number requirements.

Edit: Thanks Trystero for posting in the tracking thread. :)

Research: Nationalism looks like the only good available option. I agree we should just not bother putting commerce into research until we can research guilds. We are getting to the point where the ETTA is going to hamper further advancement since we'd just be giving potential mid- or late-game advantages away.
It's what i said weeks ago.
I know i lacked participation in the last weeks, but sincerely, i can't accept to stay in the ETTT any longer. We need to find a way to go out, mantaining only Amazon as ally. Until there will arrive the point where only one will remain.

I follow the thread and i can see you're doing a good job in MM. As i already said, i offer to contribute more, but first we MUST find a way to go out of that absurdity.

Yeah I think we all agree now that the ETTT has outlived it's usefulness.

Right now I believe our best tatic is to stall while saving up gold or putting into espionage.

To get out of this ETT though I think will take a bit of timing since we do have this war with the Mav/Mer to finish.

That seems like the most sensible approach. After all, after the Mav/Merlot war, what possible reason would we have for giving our remaining competitors techs?

If we do get the Pyramids, I would suggest we switch to Universal Suffrage and Caste System and start running specialists to collect some GPs. Then we bulb our way to a tech lead after the ETTA.

Also we really need to keep building as many units as possible. After thi war, our "allies" might have piles of highly promoted troops lying around, and we'll look like a tempting target.

I agree Trystero, which is why we should probably also start stocking up on more gold next turn. I'd like not just city walls but actually using Castles as well.

I agree with the suggested civic changes as well.

Also Welcome back Blubmuz I hope you continue posting with us! The input the better.

We don't have the Pyras now, perhaps there 'll be a running from Quat and us to get the best from Mav, that is there Homeland.

I think, we should make EsP against Mav, no money

Thanks for your answers, they make me feel better about this game and this team.

Of course i agree that breaking the ETTT can't be done in 1 hour or in 1 day.
And that we need a good number of units to be ready to respond to very possible former ETTT members attacks.

What we need is a plan.

How many turns can we wait to break the ETTT and how can we do it?
I think we'll keep only the ETA+ETTT with Amazon, or do we break with them too?

What about the Lib Race? I think we're in serious danger to lose it. And, what to choose in case?

I think we need to concentrate ourselves on this plan for the next few days. I'll try to contribute at my best. Unfortunately i can affirm to be a good solo player, but a complete noob in multi.

1. I want DR from CDZ
2. I want feuda
3. I want the Mav Isle.

After this war, I would like to fight together with Ama against the both other (North : South), and then go into an long combat with Ama.
This are my wishes (in some days we 've Christmas),
but Ama knows they can't win against us (with dikes), so how can we make it.

time-horizon, I think it 'll be at least (without backstroke) ~20 turns til finish with Mer/Mav. We don't know, what the south is doing:
CDZ fight against Merlot, we don't see any graphs from them, we know they are last in power ~100,000 soldier behind?
Quat is ~35,000 soldier behind us, we know they 've a lot of warrior and some money to up them, then they 've the same value as we.

I think the main questions are:
1) can we win the Lib race?
2) what can we get out of Lib?

With those answers we can plan when to go out of the ETTT.

We put in it far more than any other member, so they all gained more than us.
Now it's time for the pay off.

I don't see the great benefit of DR, but if it comes in a reasonable time (before we have a new tech) we can wait.
Of course Feud is far more important.

I think we can ask to both the ETTT members currently researching those techs their estimate turns.
BTW, what is the 4th member researching?
We can research Edu to 1 turn to completion, then move to PP or anything until we have the above 2 techs. Then say goodbye and complete the Edu, 6 Unis and the OU in few turns and Lib.

Quatronia are researching Printing Press, although they were not putting any beakers into it the last time I checked.

I agree with HUSch in that we should use Espionage at the moment rather than saving gold. I never emphasized Esp much in my single player games, but this game has shown me that running a couple of turns at 100% can be highly effective if you have enough commerce.

One reason I advocate running specialists is to use a GS to bulb (or partially bulb) Education. I don't know that we are in danger of losing the Liberalism race, but we could certainly use espionage to find out. We are by far the best teching civ in this game and we only have two research buildings: one library and an academy. We could certainly improve our research through multiplier buildings. I doubt anyone else has built many.

If we are leaving the ETTA, we should plan for the worst case scenario. That would be that we would be isolated. The research we could handle on our own, but what we really need is a military to deter invasion. At the moment our military is rather pathetic (this is another reason to run esp for a while, so we can see our allies demographics). We should use the current conflict as an opportunity to defer research and build up our military forces without attracting attention or concern. Build lots of macemen who can get CR promotions not available to rifles and use our financial resources to mass upgrade them when the time comes.

Just a quick question, there is Hammer degredation, does the same hold true for beakers? If not, then Bulb's plan is ingenius.
