Turnplay Log

Hamburger -> The city completes a Work Boat. Per Tubby's request, we begin a Spearman next (and no, Tubby, I don't :/ ).
it was really a cheap shot at Simon.. I was trying to imply that Simon is intimate with horses.

but in [civ4] he really does enjoy sending the horses over early to throw people off. It usually pays off for him even though now people expect it. most of the time people build axes to defend against warriors/axemen so his strategy is viable since axes defend poorly vs horses.

Ha.. I didn't vote because the result already seemed obvious. It was the best deal. However, I'm just wary about putting all our eggs in one basket, so to speak. We may think that its 3 v epsilon and us kind of in limbo, but I am SURE that Epsilon is offering trades all round and seeding disunity in the supposed alliance against them. I think we shoukd keep an open mind on trades, and entertain the idea of an attack when the time is right... on either Aloha or Epsilon.

Hey, I voted for it. I'm still here, too!
My apologies for missing your vote. I must confess that I did not search the whole strategic affairs thread.

I think we shoukd keep an open mind on trades, and entertain the idea of an attack when the time is right... on either Aloha or Epsilon.
When the time is right ... :hmm: ... obscenely overpowered Redcoat, anyone?

No I am not around civ atm. And I cant even open vanilla pbem saves for some reason.

I can try it when I get home if you give me a "to do" list.

I can try it when I get home if you give me a "to do" list.
Here are a couple of things that I can think of ...
  • Brilliant should have created a Missionary. Start another one and send this one down to Leonidas.
  • Make sure TC is set for growth. Next turn, maybe? Don't recall.
  • Should be 2 scientist running in Brilliant.
  • I don't recall if the Workers were done or not. Here is what they should be doing:
  • The ones at Twaddle should be farming the corn/wheat/some food. After that, have them start cottaging the floodplains.
  • The Workers at Leonidas should also be hooking up corn/wheat. They need to mine a hill or something next.
  • The 2 Workers at TC are in different tiles ... one is building a cottage, the other is chopping a forest. Don't recall what was next for them. Sorry.
  • We've got 3 explorers (Galley, Warrior, Caravel) to be moved. Based on Sweet's observations, I'd probably move the Caravel NE.
  • There is an Axeman on a hill west of Zapotec. Move him one more hill west. (see the pic in my last turn report).

That's all I can think of now, from reading my last report. I'm sure I've probably missed something. If you don't feel like winging it, just post here or PM me or something.

And thanks for doing this! :worship:

540 BC
We get a notice organized religion is an option. It may not be a bad idea since we're in builder mode.
Stevie Ray climbs a hill and we see the Innvovian borders. :D Sorry I forgot a picture.
Send the spear north towards Chappa.
The work boat goes west
The Aloha galley south and wave to a Aloha worker
The western galley heads north to scope out Innovia on the eastern while Stevie Ray can check the west.
Send the Balderdash missionary to Leonidas. The other missionary plants in Brilliant.
The worker at Leonidas helps finish the cornfield.
The worker at Twaddle finished its wheat and the other one on the hill starts a cottage on a FP.

*****************************

Balderdash -> Balderdash finishes a missionary and starts another. Shift a citizen to a cottage from a mine since the missionary will finish in 2 and growth in 3 instead of 6
Hamburger -> will grow in 1 and produce a spear just in time.

Treacle Cottage -> will grow in 1 with forge in 16. It would cost 2 pop to rush it.

Brilliant -> Will grow in 4 and harbor in 51.

Twaddle -> Moves the citizen to wheat and will grow in 2 and gran in 28.

Leonidas -> The city will grow next and gran in 54.
Chappaquidick grows in 18 and will finish a Lighthouse in 26.

Turn 138 - 560AD

Epsilon sends over Theology ...

MTDG_560AD_EpsilonSends.jpg

You should also note from that screenshot that Epsilon has doubled the amount of gold in their treasury over the last 2 turns.

*****************************
Our Caravel continues north along the isthmus in search of Epsilon's canal city. One of Innovia's Warriors is spotted along the isthmus. These guys are everywhere! I will be shocked if we are able to wrest the circumnav bonus from them

mtdg560adisthmusko2.jpg

Meanwhile, both of our Galley's are off exploring, in a (most-likely) vain attempt to circle the globe.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. A Missionary is due in 1 turn. Our citizen will need to return to the mines after that.

Hamburger -> The city completes a Spearman (bound for Chappa) and begins the Heroic Epic. Since the city is at its happiness cap, growth is stagnated to shave a turn off the HE. Fire the engineer after 7 turns.

Treacle Cottage -> A forest chop comes in -- the forge will be complete in 3 turns, just in time for the city to also grow.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 42/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 22 turns. Note that their will be a small chance of popping a GA, instead.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city will grow in 1 turn. We should be able to start whipping in 12 turns.

Leonidas -> No changes. The city is now size 2. We should be able to start whipping in 8 turns.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. We will be able to start whipping in 17 turns.

*****************************

I meant to send an Axeman south to do some fogbusting around the horses. Unfortunately, I forgot.

Islam was founded in a distant land. Apparently by Aloha, since they now have Divine Right. I'm assuming they will revolt this next turn.

Turn 139 - 580AD

Nothin' to see but barbs ... One of our Macemen picks up an xp whacking a barb Warrior. Another mace has to chase down another barb Warrior. A barb Axeman will attack from Zapotec during the IBT.

*****************************

Balderdash -> Complete a Missionary and start another one. Move a citizen to the mines.

Hamburger -> No changes. Fire the engineer in another 6 turns, to shave a turn off of the HE build.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes. Forge and growth due in 2 turns. Start a Settler next.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 54/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 21 turns. Note that their will be a small chance of popping a GA, instead.

Twaddle -> The city has grown to size 2. Put the new citizen to work on a plains forest. This should allow us to whip the Granary much sooner.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes.

*****************************

Aloha converts to Islam.

We will complete Printing Press in 3 turns. I think we should revolt to HR at that time (if not before). We also need to decide on Pacifism vs Theocracy.

Turn 140 - 600AD

We whack a barb on the IBT. Meanwhile, Zapotec is now being defended by a barb Axeman. I may have waited too long to take the city. Another barb Axeman is heading towards TC, but we have a Maceman over in that area.

*****************************

Aloha's Scout is planning to survey our southern coast line. If we have iron down there, Aloha will most likely discover it before we do.

mtdg600adalohascoutxd7.jpg

Our Caravel, meanwhile, spies an Epsilonian Settler party. Someone (Sweetacshon, I think) suggested that our Carvel cut across Epsilon's other canal city. It is starting to look like Epsilon may not have such a city. We will know more in the next few turns.

mtdg600adcaravelwc3.jpg

Our Galley sailing Aloha's coast line hits a dead end (read: ice pack) and will now have to turn back.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. The city will grow to size 9 next turn, as well as complete our last Missionary. I'm planning on finally building that Library, next.

Hamburger -> No changes. Fire the engineer in another 5 turns, to shave a turn off of the HE build.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes. Forge and growth due next turn. We start a Settler next for the silver city.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 66/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 20 turns. Note that their will be a small chance of popping a GA, instead.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 5 turns, or 4 turns with a little starvation.

Leonidas -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 5 turns, or 4 turns with a little starvation.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 15 turns when the city grows to size 2.

*****************************

Printing Press will be complete in 2 turns.

Here is a look at the Top 5 cities. Our low growth and expansion has really hurt us.

mtdg600adtop5da8.jpg

Turn 141 - 620AD

mtdg620admillionww7.jpg

The barb Axeman near TC is more interested in TC's corn than attacking our Maceman. I move our Maceman, who is wounded BTW, to defend the corn from pillaging. Since our mace will not have good odds defending flatland, he gets a couple of CR promotions for some quick health.

*****************************

Our Caravel sends an update on Epsilon's Settler party. He is also able to confirm that Epsilon does not have a canal city on this isthmus. It may behoove us to hang around this galley and see where they end up putting the city. Or, we could just ask them ...

mtdg620adepsilonsettlerep8.jpg

Our Galley sailing Aloha's coast line turns around and begins the long sail home.

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city has just grown to size 9. A citizen is moved from the mines to work a grassland cottage, to cut the growth rate in half. The last Missionary is trained and the city begins a Library.

Hamburger -> No changes. Fire the engineer in another 4 turns, to shave a turn off of the HE build.

Treacle Cottage -> The city grows to size 8 and begins a Settler, having just also completed its Forge. A map for city placement discussion can be found here.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 78/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 19 turns. Note that their will be a small chance of popping a GA, instead.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 4 turns, or 3 turns with a little starvation.

Leonidas -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 4 turns, or 3 turns with a little starvation.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 14 turns when the city grows to size 2.

*****************************

Printing Press will be complete next turn. I will probably turn research off after that to raise some cash. However, what tech would we like to dump the overflow into? Should we also bug Epsilon on an ETA for Education?

that catapult named "Impending Doom" is a tad bit scary :scared:

Yeah what's up with the cat?

I think to capture the horses it would be a good idea between Leondias and Treacle Cottage.

Turn 142 - 640AD

Printing Press has come in. We had 60 beakers of overflow, which were dumped in Horseback Riding. I also reduce research to 0% to accumulate cash.

Also, Epsilon has completed Education. I go ahead and do a swap with them:

MTDG_640AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

*****************************

Our wounded Maceman outside of TC takes a beating from the barb Axeman. But he is victorious and is promoted to CR3. Meanwhile, another barb Axeman shows up west of Zapotec.

*****************************

It looks like Epsilon is going to go after some pigs and ivory for their isthmus city. Excellent, our Caravel will sail through their canal next turn.

mtdg640adepsiloncanalrn1.jpg

Anyone have any thoughts on opening talks with Innovia for open borders? That road network would come in handy for getting our Warrior across to connect up with our Caravel.

mtdg640adinnovialandsos3.jpg

Alternatively, is there any chance we can talk Epsilon into just giving us their map? :dubious: Their Explorer has obviously crossed the expanse at this point.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. I left the Library build in place, since I received no feedback.

Hamburger -> No changes. Fire the engineer in another 3 turns, to shave a turn off of the HE build.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes. The Settler is due in 6 turns.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 90/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 18 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 3 turns, or 2 turns with a little starvation.

Leonidas -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 3 turns, or 2 turns with a little starvation.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 13 turns when the city grows to size 2.

*****************************

Viva la Revolucion! We revolt to Hereditary Rule and Theocracy.

Turn 143 - 660AD

Last turn we dumped our overflow beakers into Horseback Riding. I decide to leave research set on HBR while we accumulate cash. If we accumulate cash for 5 turns followed by a 100% research burn, we should be able to shave 2 turns off of the Liberalism research.

*****************************

No barb activity to speak of this turn. Although there is a barb Axeman out west of Zapotec that should suicide on the IBT.

mtdg660adhutbo9.jpg

With any luck, our Axeman will beat Aloha's Scout to that goody hut.

*****************************

We probably should have asked Epsilon before using their canal ...

mtdg660adusecanalns4.jpg

Meanwhile, our Warrior attempts to step around Innovia's borders.

mtdg660adinnoviabq4.jpg

My guess is we will need Innovia's roads in order to capture the circumnav bonus.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes.

Aloha's capital has grown to size 10 while Epsilon's has now grown to size 14!

In addition, Epsilon has founded two -- count 'em two -- new cities this past turn. Their canal city and another city. I would speculate that this other city was founded directly on top of an iron source, as their iron came online this turn as well.

Is there no way to go further south? I mean who other than stupid AIs builds way down on the tundra/ice?

never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups

Is there no way to go further south? I mean who other than stupid AIs builds way down on the tundra/ice?
Sorry, I'm not really sure what you are referring to. Most of the tundra to our south is still unexplored, if that is what you mean. According to Epsilon, we should find iron down there ...
