Turnplay Log

Turn 150 - 800AD

No more trade requests from Loco. Has anyone responded to them, yet?

Meanwhile, Aloha picks themselves up a Great Merchant.

*****************************

Balderdash -> Barracks is complete. Since we are still waiting on the horses to be connected, I start us on a Galley.

Hamburger -> A Maceman, bound for Zapotec, is trained. The city also begins work on a Galley.

Treacle Cottage -> Move the citizen back to the mines, as the city will grow next turn.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 174/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 11 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city will grow to size 3 next turn.

Leonidas -> A Work Boat is built and the city starts on a Lighthouse. The city's borders will expand next turn. The city will grow back to size 2 next turn.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 6 turns when the city grows to size 2.

*****************************

Epsilon's capital has grown to size 15. And this, folks, is why Epsilon is at the top of the leaderboard ...

mtdg800adtop5ln2.jpg

Turn 151 - 820AD

I guess we made Epsilon a little bit nervous suggesting that we pick up Feudalism elsewhere ...

MTDG_820AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

I go ahead and accept the trade. Hopfully, we have responded to Loco as this will probably make them wonder what is going on ...

I did NOT send the trade request for the proposed wines for gems deal.

After consumating the deal, I notice that Epsilon, Innovia, and Loco all have Guilds. It appears that Epsilon traded Civil Service to Loco for Guilds. Loco becomes the last team to swap into Bureaucracy.

*****************************

Our Settler puts down at the horse city site. We need to pick a city name. I was thinking "Horse Hockey" but that might be just a tad obvious. Maybe "Hogwash" instead?

MTDG_820AD_PickAName.jpg

You may notice in the screenshot that this site is 1 tile east of the original proposed location. It will take 2 border expansions to get the silver into our borders, but the city gets access to a 4f deer tile as a result.

The city begins construction of a Granary, which can be whipped in 15 turns.

The founding of the city increases our city maintenace expense enough to impact our Liberalism research. It is minor, though. We will not have enough cash to continue 100% research all the way through. It should still complete on time, though.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. Galley will be complete next turn. I would suggest that the city build a few more.

Hamburger -> No changes. Galley will be complete next turn.

Treacle Cottage -> The city has grown to size 9 and reached the happiness cap. The new citizen is put to work as a Scientist specialist.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 186/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 10 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city has grown to size 3. The Library can be whipped at size 6.

Leonidas -> The city begins hauling in some Alaskan crabs. The Lighthouse should be whipped when the city hits size 4.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 5 turns when the city grows to size 2.

PickAName -> City founded and begins a Granary. Horses will be connected next turn.

*****************************

World maps have been updated ...

One final note: I will be unavailable to play the saves during the Easter holidays.

How about some catapults from Hamburger. Why didnt we offer the wines-gems trade?

Please ... Let's all get happy!!!

We were a bit overdue so I played the save. No changes except for building a catapult in Need a Name and put Hamburger on 1 turn cats. Accepted the wines-gems deal from Epsilon. Poked around Aloha and sent a workboat to look at their capital.

If we plan on going for nukes we need to bank some GSs. Perhaps we can starve Aloha's biggest cities down making scientists if it makes sense at the time. Do nukes destroy all units and all culture buildings or what?

How does the UN work in a Multiplayer game?

I don't want to see the nuke ban come into effect. We probably need to make sure we can build the UN before we even worry about the Manhatan Project (if it is practical at the time of course) so that we can control what the votes are.

Turn 153 - 860AD

Here is a look at parts of Innovia's invasion fleet.

mtdg860adinvasionmi1.jpg

I would think that first boat would be visible to Loco at this point.

*****************************

Balderdash -> Move the citizen from the coastal tile back to working cottages. Also gave up working some mines so that we can get the city to growing. This cut the growth time in half to 3 turns.

Hamburger -> Our first Catapult is complete and I start another one. The city will grow next turn.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> Move a citizen from a lake to a cottage. We have 210/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 8 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city will grow next turn.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 3 turns when the city grows to size 2.

PickAName -> Preempted the Catapult build for a Granary. This city is going to need every growth advantage that it can get.

*****************************

An update on recent births ... a Great Prophet was born in 820AD to either Aloha or Innovia. I would presume that Innovia would be the one to get it, but if a shrine gets built in the next few turns, we will know for sure. Otherwise, we may never know.

In 840AD, a Great Scientist was born to either Epsilon or Loco. I would presume Epsilon since they have the Great Library. This brings up an interesting point, in that Epsilon will know for certain when our GS is born in Brilliant.

Turn 154 - 880AD

I start off by accepting Innovia's open borders request ...

MTDG_880AD_InnoviaOB.jpg

The deal turns out to be worth 9 gpt to us.

*****************************

Next we have an update on Innovia's invasion fleet ...

mtdg880adinvasionkq0.jpg

It seems to have disappeared!?!?!?! Does that make anyone else wonder if the invasion plans were just a load of horse hockey?

I also neglected to mention last turn that Innovia has revolted to Theocracy. They are also still running Vassalage.

*****************************

Aloha has a Great Merchant enroute ...

mtdg880adalohagmpn3.jpg

Looks like all of thier ponies are going to get Knight upgrades. Or do we want to whack Hanno?

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes.

Hamburger -> Another Catapult is completed, just as the city grows to size 8. A cottage is farmed over adding an extra 2 food to the city. For the next couple of turns, the city will remain on 1 turn Catapults.

Treacle Cottage -> The Barracks is complete and the city begins a future Cavalry (aka Chariot).

Brilliant -> No changes. The city will grow to size 6 next turn. We have 222/300 GS points. At +12 per turn we are looking at a GS in 7 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city has just grown to size 4. The Library can be whipped in 7 turns when the city grows to size 6.

Leonidas -> No changes. The city will grow to size 4 next turn and the Lighthouse can then be whipped.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in 2 turns when the city grows to size 2.

PickAName -> No changes.

Could the invasion fleet have slipped to the west of that one tile island?

(Sorry, I've been out of the loop)

Could the invasion fleet have slipped to the west of that one tile island?
From the looks of that screenshot, I'd say that Innovia's invasion fleet turned around and unloaded in Port Tropicana.

Which is also the reason that I speculated that Theoden was just blowing smoke up our skirts when he said their troop buildup was to attack Loco.

:dunno:

Turn 155 - 900AD

First up is a trade screen from Epsilon offering us Nationalism. I decide to decline it. We have one turn remaining on Liberalism.

MTDG_900AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

At this point you folks probably think I am nuts. Basically, I don't want to make Aloha too nervous. Once they see Nationalism fall, they are going to assume a MT-Liberalism slingshot. Let's let them think Epsilon is the one doing it rather than us.

The risks: Neither Aloha nor Innovia have completed Education. But if Innovia is stock piling Great Scientists, they could possibly lightbulb Education and Liberalism.

Research set to Astronomy.

*****************************

Our Caravel stumbles across Innovia's invasion fleet ...

mtdg900adinvasionxn3.jpg

It makes sense that Innovia would hold back the troops until they are ready to attack. But, why did they show the fully loaded Galley to Loco earlier?

*****************************

Aloha's Great Merchant is still aboard ship ... which means Aloha isn't going to give us the opportunity to whack the GM. And, it is too late to close borders to prevent the trade mission by sea ...

mtdg900adalohagmuq9.jpg

And an updated intelligence report regarding Kia Ora ...

mtdg900adkiaorazn8.jpg

Anyone care to guess how many cavs we are going to need? :mischief:

*****************************

Balderdash -> Another Catapult is completed. The city will grow to size 11 next turn.

Hamburger -> Another Catapult is completed. I start the city on a Chariot next. By alternating Chariot / Catapult, we can make better use of the overflow and still allow the city to grow.

Treacle Cottage -> The city has just grown to size 10 and reached the happiness cap. A second scientist specialist is hired. The city should pop a GS in 31 turns.

Brilliant -> The city has just grown to size 6. We have 234/300 GS points. We have a 92% probability of getting a GS in 6 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes. The city will grow to size 5 next turn. The Library can be whipped in 3 turns when the city grows to size 6.

Leonidas -> The city has just grown to size 4. The Lighthouse is :whipped: for 2 pop reducing the population back down to size 2.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Lighthouse can be whipped in NEXT turn when the city FINALLY grows to size 2.

PickAName -> No changes. :hmm: Since noone seems to like my previous name suggestions, how about "Hooey" or maybe "Phooey"?

Eh, we turned off research right? Or do I need to send a message to Epsilon to send Nationalism again? I dont think refusing Nationalism even matters. Do we have all the prereqs for MT? I would really rather have it in hand.

Turn 156 - 920AD

:hmm: There seems to be little comment regarding my idea of delaying Nationalism. The one comment is against the idea -- bird in hand and all that. As Epsilon has sent the offer over again, I go ahead and accept.

MTDG_920AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

Liberalism will be complete this turn. Aloha will see that we picked up Nationalism in a trade. And IIRC they will get a message that we completed Liberalism.

*****************************

Ahh, it seems we have now located Innovia's invasion fleet ...

mtdg920adinvasionfp1.jpg

*****************************

Just guessing, but it looks like Aloha may have netted 900 gold for that Great Merchant. The troops in Kia Ora were not upgraded.

mtdg920adalohagmse3.jpg

*****************************

The barbarian city of Zapotec has trained an Archer. Our Maceman takes out the fortified Axeman with 78% odds. Doesn't even get his chain mail scratched. :D

mtdg920adzapotecco6.jpg

Meanwhile, a barb Swordsman is snooping around down by Treacle Cottage.

mtdg920adbarbswordtf5.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city has just grown to size 11. Assigned the new citizen to food rather than the mines.

Hamburger -> Our first Chariot is completed and a Catapult is started. By alternating Chariot / Catapult, we can make better use of the overflow and still allow the city to grow.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 246/300 GS points. We have a 93% probability of getting a GS in 5 turns.

Twaddle -> The city has just grown to size 5. The Library can be whipped in 2 turns when the city grows to size 6.

Leonidas -> The Lighthouse is completed and the city begins a Barracks. This will make a good production city one day. The city will grow to size 3 next turn.

Chappaquiddick -> The Lighthouse is :whipped: bring the city back down to size 1.

PickAName -> Rename the city to Phooey. Sorry, I have no clue what Hong Kong Phooey means. Otherwise, no changes.

*****************************

mtdg920adgrowthlj4.jpg

Our troop situation and a recent power graph:

mtdg920adtroopsnf8.jpg

MTDG_920AD_Power.jpg

Turn 157 - 940AD

Innovia is offering to trade a happy face for a health resource. Unfortunately, there has been little time for a discussion. But as their are no objections thus far, I go ahead and consummate the deal.

MTDG_940AD_InnoviaTrade.jpg

Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I still wonder why someone would trade a happiness for a health resource ...

*****************************

Everybody is aware of our Liberalism achievement. And Innovia and Aloha should not have a hard time guessing what our free tech might have been.

mtdg940adliberalismjp0.jpg

I go ahead and send MT over to Epsilon.

MTDG_940AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

Research set to Astronomy ...

As Innovia is aware of our intentions, vis-a-vie Aloha, we should probably keep an eye on the power graph to see if they end up telling anyone ...

*****************************

Based upon Aloha's cash levels, I'd say they are choosing to run 100% research rather than do any upgrades.

mtdg940adalohagmfh3.jpg

Ironically, that is probably good for us ...

*****************************

The barbarian Archer at Zapotec provided some free xp to our Maceman. Although it cost him half his health ...

mtdg940adzapotecom5.jpg

Only a barb Warrior remains. Do we want to keep Zapotec? I plan to do so unless anyone objects.

mtdg940adbarbswordod1.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city gives up the gold mine in favor of more growth. Well, for one turn anyway.

Hamburger -> Continue to alternate between Chariorts and Catapults. In this way we will make better use of the overflow and still allow the city to grow.

Treacle Cottage -> Fire the scientists in order to get the city growing and to pickup Balderdash's gold mine.

Brilliant -> No changes. We have 258/300 GS points. We have a 93% probability of getting a GS in 4 turns. Our Astronomy research gets torpedoed if we end up with a Great Artist ...

Twaddle -> No changes. The Library can be whipped next turn.

Leonidas -> No changes. The city has just grown to size 3 and will grow to size 4 next turn.

Chappaquiddick -> The Lighthouse is finally completed. A Granary is started next, which can be whipped in 15 turns.

Phooey -> No changes. This city needs a border pop to bring in food. Unfortunately, culture does not appear to be in the cards for this city.

*****************************

Innovia changes civics again. They have adopted Mercantilism (Banking) and Caste System. It looks like they plan on leveraging that Philosophical trait a bit more. Recall that they were previously running Vassalage and Theocracy for the +4xp on troops.

The switch to Mercantilism also costs us our Innovian trade routes. I suggest that we consider cancelling Open Borders, when the option becomes available in 8 turns.

In other news ... Epsilon has founded yet another city, as does Aloha.

Only a barb Warrior remains. Do we want to keep Zapotec? I plan to do so unless anyone objects.
Oh yeah. We need more pop. What are we going to do with all these chariots we are building? We'll have to pawn the Queen's jewels to pay for all the upgrades.
