Turnplay Log

Turn 129 - 350AD

The situation is getting a bit more interesting southeast of Balderdash. One of the barb Axemen suicided against our Axeman during the IBT. But, his kinfolk decided that he liked the look of our Workers and Settler.

mtdg350adbarbaxecl6.jpg

Our now wounded Axeman won't have time to heal before he is needed in combat. We have our first Maceman en route. I'm not sure if he will get there in time, though. Our boys may have to run around in circles until he catchs up. :rolleyes:

Meanwhile, a new Warrior has been trained in the barb city of Zapotec.

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues its cruise along the Hawaiian coastline. Our Warrior in the west continues ... well, west.

Aloha's Galley continues sailing along our coast. Our own Galley, still empty, continues is voyage towards the fish and ivory isthmus location. It will rendezvous with the Settler and an Axeman next turn.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes.

Hamburger -> No changes.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> The city has finally grown to size 6. The Forge is :whipped: for 3 pop.

Twaddle -> No changes.

*****************************

Epsilon has traded for Music. But with who? I notice that Epsilon has now made contact with Aloha. Unfortunately, I'm not sure when that happened, as I am just now noting that development. :blush:

Aloha's score did not jump this turn, as it would have if they had received a tech. But, the score did jump last turn. A Theology for Music trade with Aloha would make sense. But, Theology is cheaper than Music, and I can't see Aloha giving Epsilon a discount. However, Paper and Music are the exact same cost. Possibly Epsilon has promised Paper to Aloha?

But, Loco's score has jumped this turn and last turn. Possibly a 3-way trade has just gone down? :dunno:

*****************************

I still believe that Aloha is constructing the Hanging Gardens in Hej.

Turn 130 - 375AD

Epsilon included a rice/wheat trade request in the save. I declined it. I didn't want to hold up the save waiting for everyone to weigh in on the deal.

MTDG_375AD_EpsilonTrade.JPG

*****************************

The Balderdash barb decides to close the gap on our Maceman rather than pursue the Workers. Excellent. He shall be toasted next turn. Meanwhile over in Zapotec, troops are being shuffled around. I am sending experienced troops back home, while inexperienced ones are brought in for some killin'.

*****************************

Our Settler has arrived at the hill that was once NeedaName. The city can be founded next turn. Nobody has mentioned that they would prefer a different site, so I assume that everyone is OK with the original site? Only one turn left to object!

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues to follow the Hawaiian coastline to the north. Meanwhile, our Warrior in the west discovers more ivory and a potential fork in the road. Suggestions for his next move?

mtdg375adwhichwayat1.jpg

Aloha's Galley continues its voyage along our coast. It has now reached the Brilliant Straits leading into the Gulf of Balderdash.

Our own Galley pauses long enough to load a Settler and an Axeman before continuing its voyage towards the fish and ivory isthmus location. We are looking at 4 turns. Anyone have any dotmap suggestions?

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. Taoist Monastery is due next turn, followed by waves of Missionaries.

Hamburger -> No changes. Another Maceman is due next turn. I'm thinking maybe a Worker next.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes. The city will grow to size 4 next turn.

Brilliant -> The Forge has been completed and construction of a Library is next. The city will grow to size 4 next turn. By moving a citizen from the in-land lake to the plains forest, the Library can be whipped in 4 turns rather than 5 turns.

Twaddle -> No changes.

*****************************

Aloha has picked up Drama this past turn. While we will complete Paper this turn.

mtdg375adtechtrademu7.jpg

We also need to work out a deal for Monotheism here pretty quick. Otherwise we need to take Epsilon up on their cash offer.

I would suggest going NW with the scouting warrior.

Doesn't music give you a great artist? they could have picked up drama with him lightbulbing.

Turn 131 - 400AD

Our research into Paper has completed this past turn. Next up is Printing Press, showing a most reasonable 25 turns. I use our Great Merchant as a lightbulb and shave 11 turns (1046 beakers) off of the research.

*****************************

Epsilon proposed trading rice for wheat. Not a lot of voter turnout on this one, and I doubt we will see anyone else voicing an opinion. There were 3 folks in favor of the deal, while I seem to be the only one opposed to it. Since I am out-voted on this one, I go ahead and consummate the deal.

MTDG_400AD_EpsilonTrade.JPG MTDG_400AD_SendEpsilon.JPG

I also send over Paper so that they can start researching Education.

*****************************

The barb Axeman near Balderdash decided to suicide against our Maceman. He did manage to take a good chunk out of our mace's hide before dying, though. Meanwhile, the troop shuffle continues at Zapotec.

*****************************

Our western northern Galley continues to follow the Hawaiian coastline to the north. Our exploring Warrior had reached a fork in the road. Based upon team input, he proceeds to the northwest.

Aloha's Galley, having reached the Brilliant Straits, heads into the Gulf of Balderdash.

Our own Galley, now loaded with a Settler and an Axeman, nears the fish and ivory isthmus location.

mtdg400adfishivoryhp9.jpg

Anyone have any dotmap suggestions? I'm leaning towards dropping the city down atop that grassland jungle tile.

*****************************

Our Settler arrived last turn at the hill that was once NeedaName. Nobody seems to object putting the city in the same location, so I go ahead and found it.

mtdg400adleonidaslh7.jpg

I name the city [wiki]Leonidas[/wiki] and start in on a Caravel. We have 2 Workers on site that will immediately begin chopping the boat.

*****************************

Balderdash -> The Taoist Monastery is complete and the city begins a Taoist Missionary.

Hamburger -> Another Maceman is trained and the city begins a badly needed Worker. 'Bout time, huh?

Treacle Cottage -> The city has just grown to size 4 and will grow to size 5 next turn. :thumbsup:

Brilliant -> I had calculated last turn that the Library could be whipped in 4 turns. Well, I did not include the effects of the just completed Forge into my calculation. The Library is :whipped: for 2 pop. The city is back to size 2 with 3 :mad: angry faces because of whipping.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Worker will be completed (finally!) next turn.

Leonidas -> City founded and begins a Caravel. It should be chopped in 4 turns. After that the city can begin infrastructure.

*****************************

Innovia has researched Feudalism this past turn, while Epsilon has picked up Drama. Meanwhile, Loco has grown their capital to size 10.

Looking good Conroe. The jungle tile will capture both resources so that sounds good to me.

Turn 132 - 425AD

We have a couple of barbs in and around Hamburger and Treacle Cottage. Our newest Maceman will cut his teeth on that barb Warrior.

mtdg425admorebarbssk6.jpg

Meanwhile, the troop shuffle continues at Zapotec.

*****************************

Our exploring Galley continues to cruise the Hawaiian coastline. Orange borders can be glimpsed under the black fog. Other than that, the cruise is uneventful. Our Warrior continues his northwestern trek.

Aloha's Galley continues sailing into the Gulf of Balderdash. Meanwhile, our own Galley arrives at the fish and ivory isthmus location. A Scout belonging to Aloha is spied coming down the isthmus.

mtdg425adfishivoryyn3.jpg

Ironically, the goody hut that was once being defended by a barb Warrior is still in tact. Our Spearman, en route to the ivory isthmus can pop the hut. I normally wouldn't pop a hut with a Spearman, but no sense leaving it for Aloha's Scout.

mtdg425adgoodyhutpd3.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. The first Missionary is trained next turn.

Hamburger -> No changes.

Treacle Cottage -> The city has just grown to size 5 and reached its whip-reduced happiness cap. The city is MM'ed to slow down growth by working some plains cottages. This shaves a turn off of the Printing Press research.

Brilliant -> The city completes the Library and starts on a Harbor. I'm considering hiring a couple of scientists rather than whipping the Harbor. The city will grow to size 3 next turn.

Twaddle -> The Worker is completed and the city begins a Granary.

Leonidas -> No changes.

*****************************

Aloha just completed a pretty good turn. They have just founded another city. They have also acquired Feudalism -- possibly from Innovia? They have also been running 100% cash lately, and have accumulated a bit of a nestegg. Frankly, it makes me wonder if Epsilon has made a cash-for-tech offer to them.

mtdg425adtechtraderf2.jpg

In other news, Epsilon has grown their capital to size 12. :wow: In comparison, Balderdash is only size 7.

Turn 132 - 425AD

More #$@&# barbs! :gripe: We've still got that barb axe closing in on Treacle Cottage. And now a barb Warrior has popped up on that hill at the base of the isthmus. Ironically, we have a mace available to take care of this newest barb Warrior ... but somebody ... :shifty: ... forgot to move him. :blush:

mtdg450adbarbaxekn0.jpg

mtdg450adbarbclubyx8.jpg

Meanwhile over in Zapotec, one of our Axemen trains on a barb Warrior. Now we need to wait for the city to equip another Warrior. :crazyeye:

*****************************

Our exploring Galley continues to cruise the Hawaiian coastline. Whereas our Warrior thinks he may be nearing the end of the isthmus.

Aloha's Galley is dawdling in the Gulf of Balderdash.

mtdg450adgulfdawdlefl2.jpg

Our Spearman pops the goody hut for a map. A map? :( A tech would have been nice ... The map does reveal a lot of fish at that stone site ...

mtdg450adghmapha0.jpg

Don't recall, but this may be old news ...

*****************************

The fish and ivory isthmus location is founded. The event is witnessed by both Aloha's Scout and Innovia's Warrior. Since we do not have OB with Innovia, they are basically stopped at this point. Aloha, however, is free to explore our lands. How keen on this idea are we?

mtdg450adplainviewxi1.jpg

Also note in the above screenshot that our Galley, the one that brought the Settler here, skirts across the isthmus using our first canal city. :thumbsup:

The city (anyone care to suggest a name?) begins a Lighthouse. A Work Boat will also be needed for the city. Until a couple of Workers can be sent here, this city will have to build infrastructure via the :whipped:.

MTDG_450AD_FishIvoryCity.JPG

Also note that city maintenance is starting to get a bit pricey. We are paying a total of 22 gold overall for our 7 cities.

*****************************

Balderdash -> Our 1st Missionary is trained and work begins on another one. The city will grow to size 8 next turn.

Hamburger -> No changes. The Worker will be ready next turn. I'm thinking of starting a Work Boat next for our newest city.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes. Workers are in place for a forest chop to help along the Forge construction.

Brilliant -> The city has just grown to size 3 and will grow to size 4 next turn.

Twaddle -> No changes.

Leonidas -> No changes. One of the forest chops comes in. The Caravel should be constructed in 2 turns. After that, the city can begin infrastructure.

NeedaName -> City founded and begins a Lighthouse.

*****************************

Aloha has just completed the Hanging Gardens. As this wonder is good for one extra pop in every city, their capital has now grown to size 8.

Once again, we have the smallest capital of any civ. :sad: This is actually making me regret the decision to do Missionary training in Balderdash. If getting these Missionaries equiped wasn't so doggoned important, we could turn on the afterburners on Balderdash's growth. :gripe:

I'm not too keen on Aloha exploring now but is there anything that we can do? HAve we explored their lands? is that something that we are in a position to do?

As far as the name for NeedaName... How about Panama?

I'm not too keen on Aloha exploring now but is there anything that we can do? HAve we explored their lands? is that something that we are in a position to do?
We have a Galley exploring Aloha's coastline ... they have the same exploring ours.

No, we have NOT sent anyone to explore their lands on foot. And, no, we are not in a position to do that anytime soon.

As far as the name for NeedaName... How about Panama?
I like the name. :thumbsup: But, are we at all concerned about telling the other teams too much about the city? Aloha and Innovia already know about the city, but naming it after a canal will immediately tell Epsilon and Loco that it is located on an isthmus. Are we Ok with that?

Yeah there's no reason to give that info. Maybe Bathhampton (we are Brits) which has a canal called the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Turn 134 - 475AD

I decline Innovia's open borders request. My apologies if someone actually negotiated this deal. But there isn't anything posted about it.

MTDG_475AD_InnoviaRqst.JPG

*****************************

The two barbs from last turn get whacked. But, another barb Axeman is spawned outside of Zapotec. As he is standing in a forest, he will get to live another turn ...

*****************************

Our exploring Galley continues to cruise the Hawaiian coastline. Whereas our Warrior thinks he may be nearing the end of the isthmus.

Meanwhile, back in the Gulf of Balderdash, Aloha's Galley sets sail for the open seas. Aloha's Scout continues down the isthmus, though. I vote we drop Aloha a note asking them their intentions.

*****************************

We have 3 suggestions for our newest city: Panama, Love Canal, and Bathampton. I'm partial to Panama myself, but that name is probably too obvious. If you haven't already, please vote for a city name.

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city has just grown to size 8. Growth to size 9 will be slow, as the city is working too many mines to expedite the Missionaries. Of which, another one is due next turn.

Hamburger -> The city completes a Worker (bound for Twaddle) and begins a Work Boat.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> The city has just grown to size 4. The city will be at its whip-reduced happiness cap when it grows to size 5 in two turns. Construction of the city's Harbor can now be whipped for 2 pop; however, it may be better to spare the whip for the time being in favor of some scientists.

Twaddle -> No changes.

Leonidas -> No changes. The other forest chop comes in and the Caravel is due next turn. After that, the city can begin infrastructure.

NeedaName -> No changes. Without food or Workers, this city is pretty much in limbo.

*****************************

Please note that Epsilon has founded another city.

By now everyone should be aware that Aloha has completed the Hanging Gardens and gotten a population boost. We are seeing the effects of that on the demographics and the graphs.

MTDG_475AD_GNP.JPG MTDG_475AD_MFG.JPG

Fortunately, our numbers will improve as we continue to grow.

I change my vote. I suggested Love Canal, but upon furter reflection, since we have wine hooked up I recomend Chappaquiddick. My appologies for our non-American friends for the obscure reference.

And here is a shot at a note for the galley in our harbor.

Aloha Aloha:

We were sitting atop our Great Lighthouse on lookout [watching sunbathers through our telescope] when we noticed a galley sailing through our harbor [the girls stopped posing for me and were looking out at your boat]. We're always happy to have visitors [the girls got excited and jumped around for awhile], but we are curious how long you are planning to stay [we don't need the competition from tanned, super-stud sailor types].

Drop us a line and let us know so we can be propper hosts [There is one guy on that boat that looks like Fabio, the girls seem especiall smitten by him. If you are sticking around I have to start the rumor that he is gay].

Thanks.

Piffle

There is my humbly propossed 'note.'

Booti you're too much. I love it! Is everyone ok if I send that?

I'd vote for Chappaquiddick too(correct spelling since I looked it up).

Chaps would be fine with me... I like the note too.

I don't think that we can really question the presence of their galley in our waters when our own galley is sailing along their coast. Ideally any note that we send should question their intentions regarding the mapping of our cities with their Scout.

Turn 135 - 500AD

Once again, I decline Innovia's open borders request.

I also did not do the Monotheism trade discussed in the stranger affairs thread.

*****************************

Our exploring Galley finally comes across something interesting off the Hawaiian coastline. A Caravel belonging to Epsilon!

mtdg500adepsilonboatep6.jpg

Our own Caravel departs Leonidas and heads east. :banana:

Meanwhile, Aloha's Galley has sailed into the city of Brilliant. For a moment, I thought maybe they had deleted the boat. :crazyeye: Aloha's Scout continues down the isthmus. If the Scout continues, they will discover our little training ground we call Zapotec in 4 turns.

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city trains a Missionary and begins another. The overflow allows us to run with some extra food for this turn.

Hamburger -> No changes. The Work Boat will be completed next turn. What's next? Workers, Settlers, or Troops?

Treacle Cottage -> The city will grow to size 6 next turn. As the city is already sitting at its happiness cap, religion will also be arriving next turn. Also, the 1st of 2 forest chops comes in for the Forge under construction. The city's happiness problems should be resolved within the next 5 turns.

Brilliant -> No changes. The city will grow to size 5 next turn and be at the whip-reduced happiness cap.

Twaddle -> No changes.

Leonidas -> The city completes our Caravel. Work begins on a Granary. We will need to switch over and whip a Work Boat once the city grows to size 2.

NeedaName -> No changes. I meant to rename the city. But it was late and I forgot. :blush:

Actually, though, Zapotec probably deserves the Chappaquiddick name more so. It has four Wine resources within the city radius. :yeah:

*****************************

The Parthenon has been built. Based upon the jump in score, I'd say it was Loco that built it. This wonder provides +50% great people points, if memory serves.

Turn 136 - 520AD

I'm assuming that everyone is in favor of acquiring Monotheism from Epsilon. Frankly it wasn't much of a vote. Tubby was in favor of it. Whomp reluctanly said thats fine and I said oh well. Between the three of us that is like 1.5 votes to nothing. :undecide:

MTDG_520AD_EpsilonTrade.JPG

It should be noted in the above screenshot that Epsilon now has another gem mine hooked up.

*****************************

Epsilon's Caravel scampers south back under the fog, while our own Galley continues to explore the artic north that is Hawaii. :crazyeye:

Meanwhile, our shiney new Caravel spies land to the east. Hopefully it is only a small island and not a large landmass to be circumnavigated. But, I doubt it. :(

mtdg520adlandeastmx1.jpg

Meanwhile, Aloha's Galley is almost out of our waters as it sails up the isthmus towards Epsilon. Aloha's Scout has disappeared under the fog. However, he still continues towards us. I sent our response note along with the save. I also pulled our Spearman back to keep an eye on the Scout. An Axeman from Zapotec is also dispatched.

mtdg520adalohascoutrr9.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> Return the citizen back to the mines. Another Missionary is due next turn. Three more and we are done.

Hamburger -> The city completes a Work Boat. Per Tubby's request, we begin a Spearman next (and no, Tubby, I don't :/ ).

Treacle Cottage -> Rework the citizens to encourage growth, as the whip anger will wear off next turn. A Missionary spreads Taoism to the city.

Brilliant -> The city has just grown to size 5. The city has reached the happiness cap, but a Missionary arrives next turn. Two scientists are hired.

Twaddle -> No changes.

Leonidas -> No changes.

NeedaName -> Rename the city to Chappaquiddick. Otherwise, no changes. The city's Lighthouse can be :whipped: in 19 turns. :rolleyes:

*****************************

Another Great Scientist has been born in a far away land. This one last turn -- in 500AD.

:undecide:

Hey, I voted for it. I'm still here, too!
