Turnplay Log

What are we going to do with all these chariots we are building? We'll have to pawn the Queen's jewels to pay for all the upgrades.
I was thinking we would turn research off after learning Astronomy to pay for the upgrades. Besides, Epsilon will be sending over 6 cav's and a couple of boats. :shifty:

Turn 158 - 960AD

Innovia's invasion fleet has set sail ... again ...

mtdg960adinvasionpr0.jpg

I wonder if they are actually going to declare this time ... It will take another 3 turns for the fleet to reach Loco's waters.

*****************************

Aloha continues to burn their GM bounty to fuel 100% research ...

mtdg960adalohagmon0.jpg

And it seems to be paying off for them. They have just completed research of Nationalism :( (or acquired it from Epsilon). This means that they can see that we have Military Tradition. Based upon Tubby's earlier comment that BCLG likes to play with ponies, I'd guess that Aloha is pushing towards Cavalary, as well. We should probably get an update from Epsilon on when they expect Gunpowder.

*****************************

More #@%$#& barbarians! A barb Archer steps atop a hill north of Leonidas.

mtdg960adbarbarcheruo6.jpg

The Archer will get to live a few turns longer. The Swordsman outside Treacle Cottage isn't so lucky ...

mtdg960adbarbswordth5.jpg

The odds were only 96% ... our Maceman was penalized for crossing a river.

mtdg960adzapotecmw9.jpg

Zapotec easily falls ...

mtdg960adpillagetj4.jpg

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city reclaims its gold mine, while still being able to grow in 2 turns.

Hamburger -> Continue to alternate between Chariorts and Catapults. In this way we will make better use of the overflow and still allow the city to grow.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> The Harbor gets :whipped: for 1 pop. We have 270/300 GS points. We have a 93% probability of getting a GS in 3 turns. Our Astronomy research gets torpedoed if we end up with a Great Artist ...

Twaddle -> The city has just grown to size 6. But, the Library gets :whipped: for 2 pop bringing it back down to size 4.

Leonidas -> The city has just grown back to size 4. So, does it seem reasonable to :whipped: the Barracks? :yup: It only cost 1 pop.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. As the city is only size 1, I can't whip anything ... :sad:

Phooey -> No changes. This city needs a border pop to bring in food. Unfortunately, culture does not appear to be in the cards for this city.

Zapotec -> City has just been captured and begins construction of a Granary. The city is in revolt for the next 3 turns.

*****************************

Since we are discussing trades over in the other thread, here is an updated screenshot of our trading options ...

mtdg960adtechoptionsac6.jpg

How many turns will it take for us to research HBR?

I thought Epsilon had HBR but I might be wrong. It would be nice to have, with cheaper upgrades. Also, how long until Astro and how long until Aloha gets MT? That is kind of our window for attacking. We cannot build too many chariots in that case as they wont be as useful as cats since we cant upgrade them in time.

How many turns will it take for us to research HBR?
One turn. I dumped a bunch of overflow into HBR many many turns ago. But, it is on Epsilon's side of the fence: Tech Chart.

Also, how long until Astro
We're showing about 12 turns on it right now. That should drop substantially once our GS comes in. (93% chance of GS in 3 turns).

and how long until Aloha gets MT?
Just a guess, mind you, but I'd say about 20 to 25 turns for both MT and Gunpowder.

Turn 159 - 980AD

As noted in the strategic affairs thread, Loco has sent over a trade request. In a vote of 3 to 1, we have agreed to do the deal ...

MTDG_980AD_LocoTrade.jpg

Loco's map shows not only their territory, but also the Innovian lands. Apparently they have explored almost all of Innovia, but decided not to explore Epsilon. :huh:

View attachment 151841

That is just a quick update of the map. I'll see about getting some better screenshots updated later tomorrow.

*****************************

Innovia's invasion fleet is still on the move ...

mtdg980adinvasionyr6.jpg

It is looking like they are about 2 turns away from Loco's borders.

*****************************

It seems that Loco has built the Pyramids ...

mtdg980adpyramidsit1.jpg

Our deal with Epsilon is looking even more lopsided now. :sad:

Meanwhile, Aloha has picked up about 30 gold since last turn. Even though they are running deficit research.

mtdg980adalohagmrm9.jpg

Perchance were they also building the Pyramids?

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes. The city will grow to size 11 next turn.

Hamburger -> There doesn't seem to be a lot of support for my Chariot building exercise. I start a Worker, instead. I also convert one of the farmers to an engineer specialist. The city has accumulated 84/?00 GE points.

Treacle Cottage -> The city will grow to size 11, its happiness cap, next turn. I slow down growth and hire back a scientist.

Brilliant -> The Harbor is completed and construction of a Galley begins. We have 282/300 GS points. We have a 93% probability of getting a GS in 2 turns. Our Astronomy research gets torpedoed if we end up with a Great Artist ...

Twaddle -> The city begins construction of a Forge. The city should be back to size 6 in 3 turns. The Forge can be whipped when the city has grown to size 8.

Leonidas -> The city will grow to size 4, again, next turn. I've built up a lot of whip anger in this city, so it is probably best to lay off for a while. The city begins training an Archer, for homeland defense.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The borders will pop next turn. This city would benefit from a couple of Workers!

Phooey -> No changes. This city needs a border pop to bring in food. Until then, it is probably a worthless city.

Zapotec -> The city is in revolt for the next 2 turns.

*****************************

Epsilon and Aloha have grown their capitals. Ours will grow next turn.

mtdg980adtop5uk8.jpg

That size 16 capital has a lot to do with why Epsilon sits atop the leaderboard.

Turn 160 - 1000AD

As noted in the strategic affairs thread, Aloha and Innovia have apparently done a deal trading Nationalism for Compass. It seems like such a lopsided deal to me. And my first thought was that we should sell Banking to Aloha before Innovia does.

mtdg1000adaloviaup4.jpg

But what if Banking was a part of the deal? Is it possible these guys are being sly? Trying to obscure their dealings? :dunno: But Banking+Compass for Nationalism makes a lot more sense.

*****************************

It seems that Epsilon has discovered Innovia's invasion fleet ...

mtdg1000adinvasioncg6.jpg

Our Caravel backs off ...

But, the bigger question is will Innovia declare this time around?

*****************************

Balderdash -> The city grows to size 12. Our newest citizen is put to work in the mines, while another citizen gives up cottage life to become a farmer. The city begins a Taoist Missionary.

Hamburger -> No changes. I made an error on my last report regarding the accumulated GE points. I failed to consider the effects of the Heroic Epic. The city's GE pool has been comprimised; we have a 50/50 chance of a GE versus a GA.

Treacle Cottage -> The city grows to size 11. The newest citizen becomes a scientist specialist. The city begins construction of a Catapult.

Brilliant -> We have accumulated 294/300 GS points! Only 6 more to go! One of the scientists is fired and put to work in the forest. Our GS probability is up to 94% for getting a GS next turn.

Twaddle -> No changes.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> This city finally gets a border pop and begins working the fish. The Granary can be whipped in 8 turns. Less if we had some Workers ...

Phooey -> No changes. This city needs a border pop to bring in food. Until then, it is probably a worthless city.

Zapotec -> The city will come out of revolt next turn and begin a Granary. It will also begin charging city maintenance.

*****************************

A overhead look at our finances and city maintenance charges:

MTDG_1000AD_Finances.jpg

In case someone is wondering, we have not built any courthouses. We will need to build 6 courthouses in order to begin the Forbidden Palace.

*****************************

In other news, Epsilon has acquired Gunpowder. :bounce:

Also Loco has :whipped: their bureaucracy-fueled capital for 2 pop. :shake: Hope they whipped a Crossbowman!

Loco also begins putting those Pyramids to use ... adopting Mercantilism (free specialist) and Representation.

Turn 161 - 1010AD

mtdg1010adgskx0.jpg

A great scientist has been born. :banana:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I was sweating that 94% probability.

mtdg1010adoneturnrg6.jpg

And, Epsilon has sent Gunpowder over and is asking for Banking ...

MTDG_1010AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

Done. Now all that remains is to pick up Horseback Riding. The research slider has been lowered to 50% and will be turned off next turn. We need to raise cash for the upgrades.

*****************************

No update on Innovia's intentions. They have not declard war, yet.

Meanwhile Aloha continues to burn cash at 100% research. They are down to 633 gold.

*****************************

Balderdash -> No changes.

Hamburger -> No changes. The Worker will be complete next turn.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> Now that we have our GS, the last scientist is fired. BTW both Epsilon and Aloha have mapped this city; so they will both know that we received a GS.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Forge can be whipped in 5 turns, at a cost of 3 pop.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 7 turns, at a cost of 1 pop.

Phooey -> No changes. This city needs a border pop to bring in food. The Missionary should take care of that for us; but it will take about 13 turns. Then another 3 or 4 turns to get some food going ... until then this city is going to be pretty useless. If we had Drama, I'd build a Theatre.

Zapotec -> The city comes out of revolt and the captured barbarian Worker begins a farm. Normally a city with 4 wineries is an instant commerce city. In this case, I'm going to farm everything and make it a production city. We need the hammers.

Conroe, I just want to thank you for taking the reigns in this game. I've learned a lot from watching you. The turn reports are superb :thumbsup:

Thanks for the kind words!

*****************************

Turn 162 - 1020AD

In case you haven't heard, war has been declared between Loco and Innovia. Frankly I am curious as to what JeeJeep meant when he said that they were not responsible for breaking the pact? Didn't know they had a pact.

*****************************

Astronomy comes in and the overflow beakers are dumped into Replaceable Parts. Meanwhile our research slider is turned off so that we can begin raising cash for the upgrades.

*****************************

Balderdash -> Our Taoist Missionary is complete and begin the journey to Phooey. Meanwhile those overflow hammers are funnelled into a quick one-turn Catapult.

Hamburger -> The new Worker heads to Twaddle. The overflow is used on a quick Longbowman. The city will be ready to begin Cavalry training next turn when Epsilon sends HBR over.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> I would have thought our Galley build would have turned into a Galleon build once Astronomy was learned. No such luck. Oh well, :whipped: the Galley for 1 pop.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Forge can be whipped in 4 turns, at a cost of 3 pop.

Leonidas -> No changes.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 6 turns, at a cost of 1 pop.

Phooey -> This will be a useless city until we get some food. But, we need a border pop to get some food. A Missionary is enroute, but it will be another 12 turns before the border pop happens.

Zapotec -> No changes. There are now 3 Workers on-site. A farm is being built, followed by a mine. After that we can start building some Wineries to get some trading going.

*****************************

A Great Scientist has been born in a far away land. Ptolemy was born last turn after Innovia declard war. :hmm: It looks like Innovia should be passing out some cigars ...

mtdg1020adbirthjb5.jpg

Galleys can still be built even with Astro. They are upgradeable though. It looks good. If Epsilon switches gears to attack Innovia, I think it bodes well for us. Hopefully they will get caught up in a long drawn out affair.

FYI: In case some of you read the combat report posted by 1889 in the main forum ... the city of B&O was where Loco built the Pyramids. It also was Loco's Heroic Epic city and home to the Catholic shrine.

Here is a map of the battlefield:
MTDG_1020AD_LocoMap.jpg

You can see that Innovia didn't target the Pyramids directly. But instead it was the first city that could be reached by Galley.

So could anyone translate those battle report for the idiots in the crown??

Turn 163 - 1030AD

We trade kitchen sinks with Epsilon ...

MTDG_1030AD_EpsilonTrade.jpg

Epsilon has also revolted to Mercantilism. Losing the foreign trade route income is beginning to hurt.

*****************************

We know from Innovia's combat report that they took the city of B&O from Loco. However, it does not appear on their list of cities. Surely Innovia didn't raze the Pyramids? :eek: Good for us, if they did ... but wow!

I send our Caravel over to have a look. As we no longer have a need to check our Epsilon's territory.

*****************************

We've got 223 gold in the bank. I upgrade 2 of our 5 Galleys to Galleons.
Upgrade costs:
  • 110 gold ..... Galley -> Galleon
  • 125 gold ..... Axeman -> Maceman
  • 305 gold ..... Chariot -> Cavalry
That totals to 1800 gold that we will need. :sad: With a little foresight, I would've been building Banks rather than Chariots. :shake:

*****************************

Balderdash -> Start training the Cavalry! I'd love to MM the city for hammers, but we need the commerce to pay for the upgrades.

Hamburger -> Also starts training Cavalry. I leave the city MM'ed for growth at the moment.

Treacle Cottage -> No changes.

Brilliant -> The city starts a Bank.

Twaddle -> No changes. The Forge can be whipped in 3 turns, at a cost of 3 pop.

Leonidas -> The city completes an Archer and starts a Longbowman. This won't be a bad production city once we get some irrigation in here.

Chappaquiddick -> No changes. The Granary can be whipped in 5 turns, at a cost of 1 pop.

Phooey -> Move the citizen from working the horses to emphasize food. The Granary can be whipped in 5 turns. Then dump the overflow into a Theatre to get a border pop.

Zapotec -> No changes.

*****************************

It looks like both Aloha and Innovia have picked up Great Scientists this past turn. Their lightbulb options should be Education followed by Printing Press.

mtdg1030adbirthpa2.jpg

Some of you may recall, though, that Innovia popped a Great Scientist just a turn ago. :wow: So, how many scientists do you need to accumulate 100 GS points in a single turn? Well, when you are philosophical and have built the National Epic, it can be done with about 10 or 11 in a single turn. They had to empty the Granary to do it ... but it is an impressive feat!

Now, if Aloha and Innovia have combined their research then they both could be sitting on Education and Printing Press pretty soon.

*****************************

Epsilon has planted another city. :wow: This brings them up to 12 cities before they even go to war. They are up to something.

Meanwhile, Loco has cracked the :whipped: all across their empire. No big surprise, there.

Here are some more screenshots to update everyone on where we stand. I have also updated our maps.

Let me know if there is anything else that you would like to see updated!

how do you know that the first GS was from Innovia?

how do you know that the first GS was from Innovia?
Good question! We are in a unique position, playing in the 3rd spot, to divine such information. In [civ4], all of the production, research, growth, etc happens after the player presses the enter key. This includes the accumulation of GP points and the birth of great people.

Now to put this all together ... Ptolemy, the GS you were referring to, was born in the year 1010 AD. If you look at our save file from the year 1010 AD, you will find no mention of Ptolemy. Therefore, he was not born in Epsilon or Loco. Ptolemy doesn't show up in our logs until our 1020 AD turn. Since he was born in 1010, he must have been born after we played. Either to Aloha or Innovia.

from the 1020AD save:
mtdg1020adbirthjb5.jpg

But, we have a little bit more information in that log. He was born after Innovia declared war on Loco. Since Innovia plays last, Ptolemy could have only been born to Innovia.

from the 1030AD save:
mtdg1030adbirthpa2.jpg

The same holds true for these last 2 GS's. They were born in 1020 AD but they did not show up in our log until our 1030 AD turn. Therefore they were born to Aloha or Innovia. Since there are two of them, it is a bit easier to figure out it was both of them that got a GS.

Conroe, you are the man. I have been happily lurking but I had to surface to say that I am amazed at your dedudctive skills. Keep it up.
