To Manifold

Where do I add the new civ art unit designs?

3. Again at CIV4UnitArtStyleTypeInfos.xml, there comes <EarlyArtDefineTag>ART_DEF_UNIT_Sung Raider</EarlyArtDefineTag>

The Art-Definition is in the CIV4ArtDefines_Unit.xml
<Type>ART_DEF_UNIT_Sung Raider</Type>

Did you mean this?
Or did you mean the Art-files themself?

There place should be in the Assets/art/units/sungraider folder.

Maybe imy problem it's silly, but i'm not able to resolve. I was able to put new units in the BTS and they look to work good. But if i switch the language into italian, the unit's name don't appears on the main map and in no place of the game. I tried to modify the file CIV4GameText but without success. I started from a unit i downloaded, and i put it in mod folder with the necessary files. All works if i let the game run in english, but if i try in italian, the name and the civilopedia entries don't appear...someone can help me? thanks

create a CIV4GameText_Ringhal.xml (copy a default CIV4GameText_....xml for example the CIV4GameText_BTS.xml)
in
C:\.........\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Ringhal\Assets\XML\Text

There fill in

<TEXT>
<Tag>TXT_KEY_UNIT_ROME_PRAETORIAN</Tag>
<English>Legio X</English>
<French>Legio X</French>
<German>Legio X</German>
<Italian>Legio X</Italian>
<Spanish>Legio X</Spanish>
</TEXT>

Hello, since all of you were so gentle to resolve immediatly my problem, i hope you can give me some other suggestions. How you know, there are a lot of very nice units and leaders you can download, but the problem is : how to use all together? because if i do a mod with material i download, it will be for that only one...So i tried to put files of a unit i used in mod, in customassets folders, but they don't work . I think it's because customassets wish the whole original file of the game, inside whom you must put modifications for new units you did. With mod it's all more simple, because i create such folders : ModNamexxx\assets\modules and inside i put this files :CIV4ArtDefinesSchema , CIV4UnitSchema, xxxxx_CIV4GameText ,xxxxx_CIV4UnitClassInfos ,xxxx_CIV4UnitInfos , xxxxx_CIV4ArtDefines_Unit and of course the folder with graphic files. Inside files i put only the datas for the single units, and when i launch the mod all works regular. You have some suggestions on how to use more units in a strike? Maybe i must compose inside the files i said, the various datas of all units i wish to use...What do you think?

I don´t know, if i exact understand our problem. My short hint is: Take a look at the files of one of this brilliant mods in the CivFanatics Downloads Database.

Hello, I'm having big trouble follwing the steps for adding a new tank, for example, I have a file called Mods but the only thing in it are existing Mods I downloaded, no assets file.

Its really frustrating because I'm after adding the M24 tank, F86 Sabre, Indian Sherman and a few other units that were used in the India Pakistan wars, not to mention using them in general game use.

Can somebody explain to me what to do?

I have Civ4 complete and there really isn't much to look at in any of the files, maybe its all lumped together for Complete?

Welcome to CFC :).

That should be simple to solve: Create one ;).
If there's a folder mentioned, which should be in your mod, and you don't have it in your mod, then create it. If a file is mentioned, which you don't have in your mod, take the file from BtS, and copy it into the right place.

Thanks The J and Manifold, I folowed the videoclip successfully up until it got to adding a leader button, I don't have photshop, only photoimpact and I have no idea what a dds format is... I did quite well for a technophobe.

I think I have slightly more idea on how to proceed, my Pakistan mod with F86 Sabre and M24 Tank will have to wait.

Atleast I have finally found where all those files are hiding....

Now for my next trick, I'm going to try and change the Tank, the standard Tank is a really early version of the M4 Sherman which doesn't look great next to later versions of the M4. The Modern Armour is an M1 Abrams which is only used by what? 3 countries at the most, I'm looking at a popular modern tank like the T55 or M60.

You don't need photoshop. There's a free program, DXTBmp, which is relativly simple and can save them.

Just find a nice picture (or take a screenshot ingame), resize it to 64*64 (or cut something out which is so big), open it with DXTBmp, load as alpha channel a standard button background (look at the ohter buttons with that program), and save it as DDS DXT3.

I don't have a clue of modern warfare, but i guess, that in this pack could be something useful.

If one of you could assist me, it would be appericated! I was adding a Kuznetsov Class carrier, from this site, and it shows up in game as a large red blob. Someone help!

Large red blob means everytime the same: In your ArtDefines_units.xml, you've mentioned a wrong path or wrong filename.
check them again, and if you can't see it, paste the entry of the ArtDefines here and a screenshot of your folder structure.

I've downloaded a couple of unit files and installed them into a mod I am making... however, I keep running into the same problem. The units are not really animated... they don't walk or move, but slide around the map.

One unit, for example, the hospitaller, has these files:

heavyspearman_128.dds
hospitaller.dds
hospitaller_gloss.dds
knight_templar_weapons_64_gloss.dds
knight_templar_weapons_64.dds
newglosshoshead.dds
hospitallerfinal.nif

I point to the right files, I think, in my artdefines... but I use the maceman.kfm (I've tried others but nothing seems to work).

The original poster said it uses the knightstemplar animation file... but where are those if not included in the download? I did a search of my civ directory, and there are no such files other than the art folder for this new unit.

How do I make him move his arms and legs and such?

In civ4, in the assets folder, there are some big files, ending with .fpk.
In these files, all the art is stored, you can upack them with the utility pakbuild, which can be found in our database.
Then look at the units folder, there should be a special folder "scenarios", where you can find the knights templar in.
