Two Big Continents

Hi all.

I'm about 1700AD on a PTW map. Two large continents; I have 2/3rds of my continent; the Iriquois have almost all of theirs. I tried to save the Indians on the other continent, gifting them with techs and money, but the Iroquois overran them. The Iroquois are bigger than me, slightly ahead in tech, and ahead in the score like 1300 to 1100.

Conquering the rest of my continent won't give me a conquest win; territory will be like 50/50. A UN victory is unlikely; I've made the Byzantines and Dutch so mad they'll never vote for me (warring over resources which are always *just* outside my territory), and the Iroqois have never attacked the Babylonians.

Space would be difficult since the Iroquois have more territory and a head start. I just discovered tanks, and I'm currently at war with the Dutch over oil rights. What strategies are left?

I think Conquest is my only option, which means war for a hundred years against the Dutch, Byzantines and Babylonians, then attack the Iroquois across the ocean. Is there any reason to keep the Gracious Babylonians alive?

I always go for the weakest civ (often his weakest city) on the other island first so I can get good foothold to deploy more troops. You could then rush an airport and send your troops over by FedEx. Then you can go straight for the Iriquois's throat.

Make sure the Babs don't have MPP with Iriquois.

I imagine that domination, conquest, space ship, and histograph are all viable winning strategies for you at 1700AD. Smart research and trade can catch you up in tech with Hiawatha.

1 Get friendly with the Iroquis
2 Build up your army
3 Plan a military campaign against their capital and surrounding cities
4 Waste those cities within a few turns

You will have a war to fight but as the Iroquis start the war with a BIG disadvantage, you'll probably win. Especially since you start the war with an army on their soil...

Are you sure space is impossible? The AI is surprisingly inept at taking it home in a space race. If you plan well with prebuilds and such, you can still win if you're no more than a tech or two behind. Try planting a spy with the Iroquois, if you haven't already, once your current wars are finished. That'll let you see their spaceship progress, and will also give you better odds on tech steals. Don't worry about them catching your spy and declaring war -- with them on a separate continent, you should be able to fend off invasions without too much trouble.
