TWTUD II Subthread: Council of Nations

Vietnam votes Nay on 9 and 11, Yea on 10.

We withdraw 07-1983.

All right, the first post is updated, some people have apparently missed some resolutions. Please review and at least abstain.

We withdraw resolution 011-1983, as it is obvious it isn't going to be accepted by the members of the Council of Nations. However, we still root for resolutions 009 and 010, as they will help with keeping the order within our own organization, and urge all members to vote in favour of them.

OOC: Has anyone been able to contact TheLastJacobite? I find it strange that he hasn't said a thing about the re-started thread. Also, if HS is reading this: Man, I'm sorry that I sent you so many messages, it's just that I am quite impatient sometimes. I hope you keep doing a job as good as the one you have been doing so far (yeah, 1 update at all, but having to bear me and several others must be really hard).

OOC: For the umpteenth bazillionth time, TheLastJacobite does not have regular internet access. Somehow EQ managed to accomodate for him time and time again, I'm sure we'll manage.

One popular method was cellphone. If it is so imperative that he be reached, I'm sure any interested could query EQ for his number.

And before there are any complaints about favoritism or making a special case for him, well, those are both true statements. At the same time his absence often leaves his nation out to dry. The object is to be patient. He'll come around.

Thelastjacobite has returned, to what degree i do not know.

Nippon votes nay on 007,008,009,010

lurker's comment: You guys might want to pass a "Sponsor" system so that the CoN is not so swamped with resolutions, e.g. a resolution requires 3 sponsors before its put to a vote

The Union of Scandinavia votes Nay on 009, 010 and 011.

DAI will note that the Islamic populations in Western Africa will be saved from this war and the Mexican Free State will be halted before anymore advancements can occur. With or without outside help DAI will bring a quick end to this conflict.

OOC: A question: Is there a difference between Abstaining and voting against?

OOC: A question: Is there a difference between Abstaining and voting against?
If EQ had instead said that a resolution required 2/3 of all voting members to pass, which is the way actual institutions like this work, abstaining would not have an effect on the vote. So if 5 nations abstain, a resolution would require only (32-5)*(2/3)=18 votes to pass.

However, he messed it up (as MUN conferences also frequently do), so abstaining is functionally the same as voting no. Luckymoose is right about the political implications, though.

abstain basically means no opinion

Indeed, we'll make abstaining the same as it should be for this.
