still beta testing my mod and ran into a new problem, would appreicate some help. i added 3 new techs and changed the icon for Writing down 3 spots but the game seems to hand when i research Theory of Gravity (the 3rd tech reverse alphabetically from Writing). the mod tutorial didn't make it clear do i have to change the last 3 icons for the last 3 techs or just move the last icon down 3?
 
If you add three new techs, you,ll need to change three of the tech icons. ie:

added tech weaving, this will only work if one icon is not used.
added tech skiing, this will only work if two icons are not used.

etc... etc.

So for every new tech that you add, you,ll have to stop using the same amount of icons. ie... ten new techs, ten new icons. (or old, depending how you look at it)

A perfect example to use would be Kal-el,s "double you pleasure" mod. Open it up in civ3edit and take a look to see how it is done.
 
haven't had the heart to restart my game that was going so well.

came up with an in game work around for the crash.

i had a large tech lead over the rest of the pack, turned off the science slider and let everyone catch up. then i obtained Theory of Gravity through diplomacy and the game didn't crash. (came up with the idea cuz i was wondering why i didn't crash when i got Warrior Code, then realized i got Warrior Code from a Goody Hut)

i'm still a little fuzzy on how many techs you need to change.

let's say i added 3 techs, does that mean i have to change each of the last 3 standard tech's icons down 3?

got 2 other things crashing my game now,

1. when i build Theory of Evolution the game crashes, no matter which tech it grants me. any ideas?

2. my settler unit shows up as an army in the build menu but shows up normally once it is selected.

Or to any of the other icons. ie.. for all military things, i use the icon for "chivalry", all govs. i use the icon for "republic".

Have you made any changes to it in the editor? Or the civilopedia.txt or pediaicons.txt. Have you added any new wonders? Could be one of these things.

I believe it has something to do with the units_32.pcx. I can,t really say without seeing it. But if you added units, you,ll need to change/fix the unis_32.pcx. so that the last eight are still the last eight...ie... if you add two new units, then you "must" change the .pcx to make up for the changes by moving everything from the "privateer" over two spaces and putting in your gfx.
 
for theory of evolution, i made no changes and the game processes it just fine, gets past the wonder splash screen to the dialog box announcing i learned a new tech then crashes after i hit enter.

for the units32 pcx, i added my units between privateer and the first of the last 8 icons, so i have no idea what's goin on
 
What is the first tech you get after building the wonder? This could be the problem. If it is one that you put in, look at it again to see if anything is wrong with it..ie.... new icon, pedia entries.. etc... etc.

Well, that,s about all i can help you with then. Hopefully one of the more exp. modders will view this and give you a better idea of what,s going on.

But you could try looking at the buildings_large.pcx and buildings_small to see if it is there. Not too sure, i,m just grasping at strings now. I do hope that it works out though.
