You question my colonies in Africa, and while you may as I am persuing a plebiscite in the Netherlands, the key difference is my police and civilians there are not BRUTALLY OPPRESSING, TORTURING, AND KILLING INNOCENT & CIVILIZED PEOPLE!
You realize that the Dutch people make up two-thirds of the population? They have the right to their own decisions especially since they are in the majority!
I have prayed and wished that war would not come of this but if you are to address both me and the situation in such a manner I cannot control the decisions of my people.

ARTICLE FROM THE BERLIN ZEITUNG NEWSPAPER:
Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg Dies; National Mourning Day Declared, von Hotzendorf To Be Successor.

By Olaf Heinz-Folkert

It has been a sad, sad day for the German Republic and her people. The senior Chancellor Paul von Hindenburg died today in his sleep, presumably from old age. The chancellor, whome had lead the German republic since its creation in 1919, was said to have seemed healthy and normal before going to bed that night.

The widowed Frau Hindenburg said between her tears, "Germany has lost one of its greatest men. We will all miss our gentle giant of a Chancellor."

Gothart von Hotzenforf, aged 62, the governer of Ostmark and a fellow "Free People's Conservative Party" member was named successor by the Reichstag this morning with a vote of 323 to 177, demonstrating the success of Conservatism in recent years for Germany. His "German Socialist Party" opponent, Rainart Heidelsdt, recieved 34 votes in favor of him when he was put up for election.

Chancellor Gothart von Hotzendorf has been said to be further to the right that the late Chancellor von Hindenburg; his acceptance speech seemed to be one that confirmed Germany's place as a great power of the right-wing. It has put many of the left-wing socialists in fear of retribution and a path that, in the words of Heidelsdt, "could lead to the destruction of all Hindenburg had worked for."

"Today, Germany stands on the brink of a new era; the great Chancellor von Hindenburg lead Germany through its dark years. I shall now carry the torch that his hand had so bodly clasped in the names of humanity, sovreignty, and freedom out of the cave that once was Versailles."

When asked about his stance on the Netherlands crisis, Chancellor von Hotzendorf merely replied that "we shall do whatever it takes to secure that the Dutch have every right a German citizen does, whether they be their own nation or a German one."

It is this writer's opinion that Germany has suffered a great loss of its benevolent titan militarist. However, von Hotzenforf will lead Germany to the greatness she deserves through the forces of conservatism and democracy. He will undoubtedly become one of the great leaders in German history and should be recognized as such.

A funeral march is to be held in a fortnight for the late Chancellor von Hindenburg. The leaders from Greece, Iran, Russia and Japan have been cordially invited to participate with von Hotzendorf. All other leaders are welcome to attend.

To the new German leader, Gothart von Hotzenforf

The condolances of my office go out to the entire German people. The stout men and women of Russia also are saddened by the loss of a man so comitted to preserving the freedom of the many peoples of this world. He will not soon be forgotten.

I, Premier Romanov of Russia, humbly accept the invitation to the funeral of this great leader of men.

See you in Berlin.

Premier Romanov

To: Gothart von Hotzendorf, new leader of Germany
Japan is very saddened to hear such bad news. Paul von Hindenburg indeed was a good man; the "Victor of Tannenberg", as he was known, will also be missed here in Japan. Therefore We will take part in the funeral march to give last honors to a wise and great man.
In spite of this tragedy the world has to move on. Japan welcomes Chancellor Hotzendorf and looks forward to a prosperous relation between our people. Also we urge you to calm down on the issue of the Netherlands. War can not be the solution in this case.
A very saddened Emperor Kwan-Sn

Subj: Condolences And The Netherlands
France too sends her deepest condolences at the death of Chancellor Paul Hindenburg, we may have never seen eye-to-eye but I know that we owuld have came to an agreement in the end.
Thus I have decided to allow a plebiscite in the Netherlands but only on this condition:
The Editor of the Anti-French propanganda Berlin Zeitung is sacked and a new neutral editor is given the job. The sacked Editor must then write France an official apology.
I feel that for Chancellor Hindenburg to base his entire policy on the Netherlands around one news report given by an already proven anti-French propanganda newspaper is ridiculous.
I hope that we can work together and that this arguement can finally be settled.
Yours,
President Phillipe Henry

I, Jan van Riebeeck, am declaring myself the ruler and King of Britain. I envite all peace-loving nations to sign an accord with Britian to ensure peace in Europe and the rest of the world.

Also: I am purchasing the following to build up my military:
7 tank regiments at 105 gold
7 Infantry regiments at 70 gold
3 Artillery regiments of at 60 gold
3 Paratrooper regiments at 50 gold
1 Transport aircraft wing at 10 gold
1 Aircraft carrier at 50 gold
3 battleships at 75 gold
2 Destroyers at 20 gold
2 submarines at 20 gold
2 transports at 100 gold

Total spent: 497 gold

Also, after my military has been acquired I am sending the 1st Army, composed of 4 Infantry regiments and 4 tank regiments to annex the area of South Africa and to join it to the Kingdom of Britain.

As there is no leader for South Africa, and its residents are in dire need for ruling, I do not expect more troops are needed to conqure the area.

Britain is anxious to have diplomatic relations with your country. Therefore we are sending a diplomatic convoy to your capitol to discuss the possibility of opening an British Embassy there.

Also, we would like to sign an African Peace Accord. If Britain succeeds in annexing Southern Africa, I would like Iran to be the first nation to sign this pack with Britian. This will merely say that Iran will not try to invade British terrain in Africa.

Hope that we will have good relations.

Is it true that you might have a State Visit to South Africa in September. My sources say this. Please reply to notify if this will happen.

King Jan van Riebeeck

To: King Jan van Riebeeck I. of Britain
Emperor Kwan-Sn greets you, King Jan van Riebeeck I. and extends his hands in friendship. Nevertheless there is an issue that surely will prevent peace between our empires, namely your planned attack on South Africa, which is a sovereignty. There is no reason for you to attack them, so reconsider. Besides We think your 1st Army will not stand a chance against the combined South African forces. We urge you in the name of peace to recall your forces, otherwise Japan will be forced to declare war upon you.
Yours, Emperor Kwan-Sn

To: The rest of the world
My friends, it seems that yet another crisis has arisen. I need your help to convice Britain that a few lands are not worth to risk another World War.
Yours, Emperor Kwan-Sn

I am sorry, Mr. Riebeeck, but you are sadly mistaken if you think one army will crush the South Africans. We are an independent and neutral nation, and although we have not yet elected a new leader unlike most other nations, we can still defend ourselves.

If you try to invade, you will be met with fierce retaliation.

Outgoing President of South Africa

By the way, your sums add up to 560 gold! Also, how can you get 497 gold buying things which end with 5s and 0s?!

And your army needs to be arranged into groups, see how others have done it earlier in the thread.

And welcome to the game! :)

RULE CHANGE

Right everyone, you must private message to me your new buys, new deployments and new orders today or tomorrow.

On Wednesday you have the opportunity to change orders and deployments, but not buys, in another PM to me.

Then on that Saturday I shall post any combat reports, and then you can begin to send me the new deployments etc for that week.

Thanks Kwansn, I already have yours for this week.

So for example:

This Sat/Sun, South Africa(which isn't playing yet, but if it did have a player) sends me their latest buys, deployments and orders. They have no attack orders in it.

On Wednesday, they send me a new PM, detailing new orders, with attack orders as they have now gone to war. On Saturday I post the combat reports from this week, and then they begin to send me their latest buys/deployments/orders again, and so on.

Any questions? Please PM me your latest deployments, including the spending for the new 250 gold.

And I've decided that anyone join up until Friday, they can still spend all 750 gold, not have to accept my buys for that nation.

"Oof, oof, oof! No sooner have we dealt with one troublemaker, then we have to deal with another one! This is not good. Who on earth has the balls to think he can conquer South Africa just like that anyway?! And the game was just getting fun, too. I'm afraid we'll have to postpone this for a later date, Mischa. The game that is diplomacy takes precedence over the game that is chess..."

Carefully, Romanov lifted the board aside to a small coffee table and stood up, thanking Mischa Gorbachev, his vice president, for a good game, and showed him out.

Time to get diplomatic on the British heinies...'

To the British King Riebeeck
Have you slept through your recent history lessons?
The world, and your country, has been embroiled in devastating war for a hundred years! South Africa, just like any other country in this world, is a free and sovereign modern nation, which has crawled forth from the ruins and ashes to try and piece together a new existence from the remains of the holocaust.
Anyone, I repeat ANYONE who tries to disrupt this peace by attacking another nation, will have me to contend with, and probably also any other country in the civilized world. Just look at what happened to the Venice Pact during the Greek Crisis.
Please leave your threats as just that, a threat, or we will be forced to declare war on you.

P.s: I'm afraid your intelligence is mistaken. It is I, Romanov, who will be accompanying a joint delegation together with five others to South Africa, come autumn.
I hope and pray there is still a free South Africa then too.

To the countries that were on my side during the Greek Crisis
I see with much sadness that a neutral country has once again come under attack due to another country's greed. I hope, indeed know, that you will join me and Japan in condemning this act, and forcing Britain to abandon any pretence of aggression before we all suffer the consequences.

To the nations of the Venice Pact
Although we had our differences over the question about Greece's involvement in the attack on Italy's president, I pray you will aid us in putting pressure on Britain, who, unlike you, is attacking South Africa purely out of greed.
May we cooperate well on this and future issues.

OOC: Uknemesis: I'm probably being really stupid here, but if we PM you these things, do you want us to post our decisions in the thread as well, so that some of us don't pull another "let's gang up on the weak guy in secret" stunt, or how should we do it?

All PMs between players that result in a decision must be posted here. Attacks must be as well.

But actual orders and deployments are hidden from now on, only known to me via the PMs, and not revealable to anyone(no Secret Service)

Nemesis

Well due to the game getting a bit boring because of no real action, I have decided to include a few situations:

The Egyptian ambassador signed on the dotted line, and the South African President smiled.

It would be a glorious war.

Now, once the buying period is over(finishes tomorrow night, I have three or four people's buying orders now), then I will reveal their plans.

No orders or deployments may be changed after tomorrow night until Wednesday, and then none again until the buying and orders of Sat/Sun.

So if I announce the war on Monday, you can react on Wednesday, and battle results on Saturday, followed by more buying and orders that weekend, and so on.

Subj: Re: Condolences and the Netherlands

Pardon me M. Henry, but the Berlin Zeitung is firsty not an anti-French propaganda newspaper, and secondly it is a private business! The paper is run by a private owner, and therefore the German government has no influence over it. Furthermore, any such action as those stated by yourself would be nothing but the worst of infringments on German civil liberties!

We cannot comply to your requests both because it is a vile attack on freedom and because of our incapacity to do so even if it were the policy of the German government.

"I feel that for Chancellor Hindenburg to base his entire policy on the Netherlands around one news report given by an already proven anti-French propanganda newspaper is ridiculous."

Quite frankly, M. President, I am disgusted by this statement so befouling of the good name of Hindenburg in that you not only slandered him so but that you wated until after his death to say such. It is a 'cheap shot' and completely innappropriate to such an admirable man; I demand a relinquishment of this statement by you and your government.

You have soiled hallowed grounds for the Germans, my friend.

I bid you adieu.

I think the Germans and French should start being more friendly, I'm not saying a word, but a war between you two could be your downfall... :p

TO: ALL PEACE LOVING NATIONS
FROM: THE OFFICE OF KING JAN VAN RIEBEECK I

I wish to make it clear: I was acting under the advice of Lord Alfred Milner, my (now former) Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Britain is pulling back all forces currently deployed abroad and is bringing them back to the Isles. Britian wishes to express her most grievest of apologies for attemting to attack South Africa. We no longer have that intent and accept and support South African soverignty. We do not wish to wage war with anyone.

Thus, we call on all nations to resume diplomatic relations with Britain, as we shall be opening embassies in all countries willing. Please let us now if your nation will allow us to build an embassy in your country.

I have already fired my Minister of Foreign Affairs and will soon be appointing a new Prime Minister. I hope that this will act as a sign that I realise I have made a mistake and that I intend peace at all costs.

Greeting you in peace
King Jan van Riebeeck

To: Emporer Kwan-Sn
From: King Jan van Riebeeck

Greetings Emporer. I wish to thank you for engaging in diplomatic relations with Britain before deciding to take action.

As I have made abundantly clear, Britain will not be attacking South Africa. We intend no war.

I am anxious to sign a peace accord with the mighty Empire of Japan. Please contact me as soon as possible to finalize the accord.

King Van Riebeeck

Bulletin from Romanovs press office:

"The Russian Premier has returned from his state visit to South Africa, where he and the other delegates were met with cheers by the natives for the support in the recent dispute with Great Britain. The state visit is now concluded satisfactorily, despite an assassination attempt made by Tadsjik terrorists. The perpetrators have been caught and will be tried shortly, and the Premier has announced a programme to root out all terrorist groups within his borders and put a stop to their operations. More on this case to follow."

"I thought the South African government seemed strangely indifferent, even cold, towards us. This is odd. One would think that they might be more cordial, given the fact that we helped them in the face of an impending threat..." Romanov knocked back a shot-glass of vodka. "Very odd. And those terrorists? Funny that NKVD has never heard of that particular group before. They can't possibly be training anywhere inside the motherland!"
"Funny you should mention that, sir," Leonid Andronov mused. "Our sources in Africa indicate that they must have had help from inside. I don't know what to make of it, but it seems like Africa may prove to be a problem in the future."
"Hmm. Maybe you are right, director. Well, if they do, we're ready for them!"

To Riebeeck of Great Britain

I'm glad you saw the folly of your ways. I'm so sorry to get off to such a bad start with a new ruler, but you must understand that Russia is very interested in preserving the fragile peace that exists, as we were one of the countries that suffered most during the last war.
Now, to business. As a gesture of goodwill, I offer you premises near the Kreml in which you may set up an embassy, provided, of course, you will extend to me the same privilege in an appropriate area of your capital London.

Good health and fortune to you
Premier Nicolay Alexandrovich Romanov
