EMERGENCY UPDATE FROM THE BEIJING DRAGON

TERRORISTS DISCOVERED TRAVELING TO INDIA-Rueters
Today near the small town of Chanishi on the India/China border, a horrifying discovery was made by local police forces: An occupied terrorist encampment! After over two hours of on an off gunplay, the encampment was in flames, but a patrol helicopter sighted a line of terrorist trucks heading into India. They were eventually caught by local police Seargent Hao Kumi's forces, but the question still remains: How and why are there terrorists in China?

The encampment explains the riots in India, the ones China's close friends RGB were concerned about. The encampment was unknown to local police until today, when an officer on lunch break near the town's edge sighted a scouting terrorist.

New evidence suggests the the leader of the terrorists is Nakung Menquin, the former leader of the long ago rejected Fascist Party. Investigators say that he was always an insecure man, and when his dream of a united fascist China was shattered when the Council rejected his proposal he went mad and sought for revenge. He gathered his fascist followers and began a terrorsts group to get revenge by trying to spark British hatred and eventual war for China by supplying riots in India directly from China. He did not succeed, and if our experts are correct he is on the run. Full story on page 3C

OOC: I'm not the best at making newspaper posts like that, and I know you are exellent at that stuff Pieter, so please tell me how I can improve. /OOC

FOR SALE: ONE UKNES :p

God I haven't got time to run this anymore! If anyone would like to take over, be my guest, I'd rather sit back as a player with my Trinity Alliance lol.

Although you would have to give up your country.

I don't know if there will be any takers, but if someone trustworthy wants to take it over, or co-moderate it, then I will happily accept.

PM me if you are interested(knowing my luck, this damn NES will force me to moderate it for the rest of time! :p :( )

Sorry guys, I just haven't got time. If there aren't any takers, I will continue running it, just combat reports will be late(as per usual :p )

Nemesis

OOC: This is nemesis's favorite smiley: :p BTW I'm sorry but this is TOO HUGE for me to run it. I think Pieter would be a good MOD though. /OOC

Hmm, that's given me another thought. As I could make sure a co-mod wasn't abusing his rights, he could keep his nation.

That would mean that Britain could keep it's leader, and I could control the Trinity Alliance(I grant myself the right to control all three nations :p ).

Anyway, full mod would take this over completely and have to give up his nation, and I would send him all the deployments and map, and PMs would now be sent to him. Also he could make any rules he wanted etc.

A co-mod would ideally receive all the PMs and work out combat, and do the maps. I would send him the deployments and map also. I would remain just to make sure the co-mod wasn't abusing their power, and I would play the Trinity Alliance still. Any new rules would have to be approved by me and the co-mod.

Basically, if a guy became the co-mod, he'd get all the power still, just I would remain to ensure fair play.

Pieter I am sure would do a good job in either position, and so would many others.

Please guys help, I'm struggling, I'm snowed under!

Thanks

Nemesis

btw, I've just realised that this is the biggest and most successful(although I love some of the other NESs!) NES here!

Well done guys, you've managed to keep getting orders in(although I apoligise for not being able to resolve combat quickly enough) and stay in the game after I think a month or so of play!

It is now 1938, and will be 1939 after this round of buys(no one PM them to me yet, you may have a new mod to PM them to).

Wow, this NES is by far the most popular, so it must be fun. I would like to rejoin if it isn't too late, as the Egyptians
Also, can someone update me on the world stance, normally I would read it, but 26 pages!!!!!!! I will post my first post tomorrow for Egypt.

Well Jason, you have to decide whether or not Egypt will remain in the Trinity Pact, an alliance with Greece and Spain.

btw, if you want to control this NES, be my guest, I'm looking for a mod to take over or a co-mod to run the main parts.

Read above for details.

Also, I'd hold on for a second before claiming Egypt, as if someone chooses to be a full mod instead of a co-mod, then they must surrender their nation, which means there would be another one spare.

Anyway, welcome to the game!

Nemesis

PS: Anyone who mods this or co-mods this, I'll update the first page with any info you want to put there.

OOC: Just a thought: Would it be possible for you to split the moderation into pieces (I'm not quite sure ANYONE wants to take over the lot, even though many would do a good job of it), so that everyone could do their bit, then you could gather the pieces together, so to speak, and show us the results? If you could wangle things that way, I'd consider giving my two cents...
What we really need is someone who has no occupation or social life to speak of :p, that can make a fulltime hooby of running this :D

Well I suppose it could be split into three parts.

One would receive deployments and check they're right, and send the combat to the combat moderator.

The combat moderator would receive the details of the units taking part in combat, then decide the combat using the system. He would then send the details of land taken and given away etc to the map moderator.

The map moderator would then make a map of it, and send it back to the combat moderator who would post the combat reports and the map.

I would be the impartial moderator who makes sure no one is cheating by being a moderator.

So three co-moderators are needed, or two if someone could do the map and combat/deployments.

Also, the possibility of one co-moderator to do all of that, or one person taking it all over, are still options.

In all events, I will continue as a player, and in all but the last one, I will still be a moderator who makes sure everything is fair.

Also, if someone takes over the entire NES, and wants to be sole mod, they must give up their nation.

Now you now the dangers of transnational terrorism.I wish you luck in fighting the terrorists in India and China.

OOC: Das, I like the idea of the 3 part mod, I think it is a very good idea from Wilboman, but there is one problem, the three people who do co mod need to be able to post at least once a day, preferably twice. I would be willing to co mod as either the map maker or the reciever. I would more like to be the map maker, but my maps seem to be of terrible quality (with small dots everywhere that bugs the hell out of me. See my map in I know, I Know.. I use Jpg format, and that is the best my Paint will go. Any suggestions?

Do you by any chance edit the jpg all the time? What you must do is save the image as a bitmap, then update that one every time, then use save as to save copies as jpegs when needed. This keeps the quality, and it is easier to edit a bmp.

Also, I'm uknemesis, or nemesis, or Chris, not Das :p

I would be glad for you to be the map moderator.

Now we just need someone who will receive the deployments and keep them on file, and someone who will resolve combat.

Nemesis

OOC: Hi nemesis/uknemesis/Chris (whoo, I know your name, can start stalking - he, he, he - just joking). Anyway, I would really want to help with the mod - but I can't. Currently writing full-time exams (not that one would think that, counting my posts). BUT, here's an idea: 4 mod's: 1, 2 and 3 does what you suggested and 4 writes newspaper articles to keep things active. As I love doing no. 4, I'd be glad to do that. I know, I am by now means solving the problem, but at the present I am afraid my combat reports would be even later than ... well, let's just say they'd be late. So, let me know about no. 4. Meanwhile I'll think about doing the other mod-positions and will be holding thumbs we get someone to do them.

What do you mean with your last post, sir. I could not gather whether you were being sarcastic or not... Please let me know.

I am glad that you caught the terrorists. I trust that the rebellion in India might start to get under control and that, after Iran finds their rogue former leader (OOC: why are all your mad/facist/tyrranic leaders fleeing to INDIA????) India will again see peace.
(OOC: What's wrong with your newspaper article? I think it's great. )

Britain respect your tough stance on the EU proposal. However, this Union might only be an extension of the current alliance you have with France and Russia. An alliance between Britain, Sweden, France, Russia and Germany could be one of mutual protection, that's all. We need not have one currency or a singular foreign policy. Nations in the EU would not have to support each other's military efforts, but should only vow not to attack each other.

To: France, Russia, Sweden
Do you agree on the idea of an EU as I explained it to Germany above? I do not at all want to take over the organisation of this EU, but I just want to make sure whether I have the facts regarding the EU right. O, and, uhm, aah, is Britain by any chance invited to join such an alliance?

Ok, thanks Nemesis. lol, I'm used to thinking Das is the moderater from playing NES III, sorry. I will be the map moderator, then. All I need is the officially totally updated map, with nations names and everything. Is the front page map updated?

This wasn't sarcastic.I really wish you luck in fighting terrorism;we just find it a bit enjoyable a nation which once supported terrorism is now suffering from it.If you want,we could sent some specialists experienced in searching and eliminating terrorists.

Here's the latest map, not updated for the latest combat yet.

I've decided I'll leave that combat to be the first test of the new mods.

Pieter, I like the idea of the newspaper mod, so that's fine, as it means the combat mod only has to post a brief outline of battle, or send the brief outline to you, so you can talk it up a bit in the newspaper articles.

So now we're just looking for a deployments mod to receive deployments and stay up to date with them, and a combat mod to resolve combat and send a brief description to Pieter.

Nemesis

OOC: Nemesis, what's the system you use to resolve combat, because I might be interested in being a combat mod.

My rejected fascist leaders were going to India to try to spark another riot, and leave trails the RGB could track into China, so the British would declare war on China. That is the best description I can give you. /OOC

The combat system is still the one on the first page.

The attacker's attack value has the defender's defending value taken away from it, the resulting number is the modifier.

Then you roll two dice for the attacker, two for the defender.

Then you add the modifier to the attacker's roll(which means taking it away if the modifier is negative).

After that, whoever's roll was the highest after the modifier has been added is the winner. The loser dies. A draw means both die. And this continues so that each attacker has had one go at the defender.

For skirmishes, a draw means a draw, neither dies. Also, the combat continues only until all the defenders have had one shot at the attacker.

BATTLE EXAMPLE

2 tanks and one infantry attack 1 tank and 1 infantry.

Tanks have an attack of 7, and a defence of 5. So the modifier is +2 to the attacker(7-5=2).

The first attacking tank rolls a 6. The defending tank rolls a 8. The modifier makes the attacker's roll 8(6+2=8) so it is a draw, and both the attacker and the defender die.

Infantry have an attack of 5 and a defence of 7.

The second attacking tank attacks the defending infantry, for a modifier of 0(7-7=0). He rolls 5, the defender rolls 7. The defender wins, and the attacker dies.

The attacking infantry attacks the defending infantry, with a modifier of -2(5-7=-2). He rolls a 9, and the defender rolls a 6. The modifier is added(but because it is negative, it is actually taken away) to give a total of 7(9-2=7), which still beats the defending score of 6. The attacker wins, and the defending infantry dies.

SKIRMISH

3 tanks attack 2 infantry.

The modifier for all is 0(attack of 7 - defence of 7=0).

For skirmishes, only all of the defenders get a go, not all the attackers.

So the first infantry rolls a 7, and the first tank rolls a 7. Neither die as it is skirmish rules.

The second infantry rolls a 8, and the second tank rolls a 6. The tank dies.

The third tank doesn't get involved as it is skirmish rules.

Finally, I will quote the artillery and paratrooper rules:

BOMBARDING= Artillery are the only unit that can bombard in the game(for simplicity). Their fire "attacks" a unit, even if it is on the offensive against the player. The bombard value has the defence value of the unit it is attacking taken away from it, and then the normal roll is made with the modifier. If the artillery wins, the unit it fired at is destroyed. If it fails, another roll is made exactly the same. If the artillery wins, it doesn't kill the unit, but survives counter-fire. If the enemy wins again, the artillery is destroyed. Artillery may fire only once during a battle.

Also, at the beginning of battle, artillery may fire at fortifications instead of at units. If it rolls below a 5 on a 2 dice roll, it succeeds in destroying one line of fortifications. Artillery that has fired on fortifications cannot fire at units in the battle that ensues.

PARATROOPERS= Paratroopers can be loaded onto a transport aircraft, which can carry only one paratrooper regiment at a time. On the ground, paratroopers fight as normal infantry, but when dropped from a transport aircraft, which can also drop them across the sea onto an island, they gain a +2 attack bonus.
Transport aircraft can also ferry normal land regiments around your own territory, but these cannot attack from the transport, to do that they must attack from a sea transport, in a D-Day style landing. They do not get any bonus.

Sea transports are needed to move units around across the sea, the only other unit able to do that being the transport aircraft. The sea transport is the only one which can carry normal land units straight into combat, usually an invasion. A sea transport can carry an ENTIRE ARMY, not just one regiment.

AIR AND NAVAL COMBAT

Air units fight it out for control of the sky before any other combat, and the winner in the air can use air transports to deliver paratroopers. The loser's transports remain on the ground, as they aren't stupid enough to try a suicidal parachute drop, and their paratroopers go into battle as normal infantry. Naval combat comes next, and the winner of that can send in sea transports. The loser cannot, and any of his troops arriving by transport remain inside it. Both times, for air and sea transports, a suicide run could be ordered by the nation's leader(must be in orders), where it tries to survive one round of combat with the opposing nation's aircraft/ships to deploy it's cargo. If it is unsuccessful and is killed in the first round of combat against an enemy, all the men inside die. If it survives one round of combat, then the men deploy as normal, but the transport is certain to die as it has no guns and is outpaced by its pursuers.

There you go. Bet that's put you off :p

I hope not though!

Anyway, it's actually easier than it looks once you get going.
