Ultimate Scenario for WWIII

Here's a picture of what I think the map should be.

Notice it includes the Kola Penisula, Iceland, Persian oil fields, and still centers on Germany and Central Europe.

How are you going to represent the US? You could do something with a strip of super-productive land right at the edge of the map to represent it. Or you could just make units appear in the Atlantic with python scripting.

hey bro, ill download this map, and then i will make a traced outline map with civeditor. after that i will add mountains and give it to you so we can then start adding rivers and cities (a long process :p )

i think i would rather just leave europe and usa separate, maybe add usa as a non playable civ that just has units, and as Gunner said, add additional units with python. I like the idea of focusing on the battles that would rage in europe!@

Yah a superproductive strip is a good idea. It may be unrealistic, but it's the most conventional way to make a US are while still focusing on Europe. Plus the US would still have to send reinforcement units across the Atlantic in ships, and the Soviet subs vs. the Carrier groups would be another dimension to the war. NATO can operate without reinforcements and supplies from America. Carrier groups are protection for supply and unit ships that move across the ocean, and the have Anti Submarine Warfare boats with them, making the battle even. So I'm thinking a "super strip" for the US is the route to go. Also, Iceland should start as a major NATO base (Kevflavik Air Base), which the Soviets took over in the book.

Alright lets get started!

I don't really know how you'll be able to work out making the allied civs work together to defend West Germany. It might be pretty difficult without making them all one civ. But that would make things quite boring.

Oh, and I think the US should definitely not be a non-playable civ. First of all, just about all of the naval action in the Atlantic will involve the US vs. USSR. Also, the US is the country that will defend Iceland. Finally, the US would also have a huge prescense in Europe. To make it a non-playable civ would just be silly. You could pretty easily represent its industrial power by making a few super-productive cities on the western edge of the existing map.

Edit: Ooops! Looks like we had a cross post here.

Yah I agree. No US = boring. Can't we make the allied nations love each other with positive point values and hate the enemy the same way with negative points? Can they start out allied? How did they do it in the WW2 mod? BTW how do you make avatar from a URL and how can I change it from "chieftain" to something else?

Its definitely possible and easy (I think) to make countries like each other at the start. What I was speculating about was actually getting the US and others to physically send troops to Germany. It probably should work out though.

I think you have to get 30 posts and be registered for 30 days or something before you're allowed to change your avatar and title. Not quite sure though, its been changed since I joined.

Oh I see. Yah if the countries are in a war, they will likely send troops to attack. The problem may be the USSR attacking the US, which isn't an actual country in this case.

Arn't there world maps out there with an enlarged europe? I had one for civ2, where europe took up about 1/3 of the map, and area's like africa and south-america were made much smaller. I reckon something like this could work... if a map was made that just included the northern hemisphere... then the pacific could be shrunk a bit and europe made a bit bigger. It'd allow for the US and the USSR to have some great pacific battles, and attacks on Alaska etc..

Ok, im back..

heres what ive done: Ive traced out the landmasses and continental shelves, but the terrain is all grasslands for most part. the details now need to be added. also minor coastal tweaks will be needed for naval playabilty.
took about an hour

what you think?

If its easy to edit the size of the map, it would be nice to have some open water up above scandinavia. If that is a huge hassle than forget about it. It looks great though. Good work. And as for the enlarged Europe idea, I don't think that we need to make the whole world. This battle rages in Europe and the Atlantic. I had thought about the fact that if the USSR were to fire a missile at the US or vice versa, they would have gone over canada and the north pole, the shortest distance to the target, but hey, this will work out just fine. And I don't think that the USSR would ever attack the US homeland for two reasons: A) they need oil in this scenario, so they only need to push NATO lines back or defeat their Europe forces altogether and B) If Ivan got within 300 miles of the US, it would take about 18 minutes for the climate of the USSR to rise dramatically :nuke: ;)

i might make another map. it wasnt so easy to add to the map, and the "xml" for maps is touchy at best. give me a day or two, i got a update on my revolution scenario soon.

i agree i think europe should be on there own. its more of easy pickins fer russia that america would've been. i think usa would be eating up central america in the time of weakness.

i think we should set game year for 1988 perhaps to have gorbechev and have the war instead of the collapse, with germany split. or do we want putin? {edit: i just noticed your sig :p }

The book had it set in either '88 or '89, we can just call it '88. Let's have Gorbachev in power, and we definitely want a divided Germany, so West Germany and the GDR are two seperate entities. I have a game - Falcon 4.0 - that has a huge list of every unit used during the cold war by both sides, and it includes lots specs and 3D pics for each. I'm gonna compile a list.

I started making a unit list, but basically only have the aircraft even close to finished. I'm thinking that since not all NATO countries had bombers or nukes and stuff, the US type should just be used for countries without their own. Also I made all of W. Germany's units US types. The US had stealth tech (F-117, B2) by then, but the Soviets didn't, so how can I even that out? Possibly I could make up fake units and say "this is what the Soviets would have made had they had [whatever technology]", and just make a new unit that didn't exist, but will exist in the mod if a country gets the right tech. Good idea???
I need some more unit types that I can add. Any ideas? This what I have so far: View attachment NATO.doc

And it seems like all the Eastern Bloc countries mush have all had the same Soviet made units, making for poor diversity and possible boredom on the Warsaw side.

check out my preliminary picture of what i want the map to be. notice the squewed angle eastern seaboard for the production strip. i think its better to have somewhat of a coast instead of a boring strip, eh?

are we making this scenario 1 vs. 1 with Warsaw Pact vs. NATO, or are we going to start making a grip of leaderheads for all the nations? might i add, we will need to research each nation to get names of leaders and pix for leaderheads.

Well, I don't know about the 1v1 thing. It would be easier considering that most of the countries have the same units. My table is set up for 12 nations, I believe, 6 on each side. The map looks good by the way

will there be an Iowa-Class Battleship (mothballed, but can be restored for oh say...1500 gp)?
