Today I DL a couple of programs that are in MSI format. When I got them to the my computer that has win98 it couldn't open them. But on the computer with XP it can open them. How can I open them on my other computer?

a file with file extension .MSI is opened with the windows installer program.

I have a computer with Windows XP, and the 'HELP' for windows says to right-click on the file name, choose Properties, and on the General tab you'll see a place that says 'type of file', and you can push the 'change' button to choose the program to open it.

I don't know if this is how it works with Windows 98 - try using your Windows HELP file and searching for keyword 'file extension', if the above 'help' from XP doesn't work in windows 98.

Edit: the message before this one is probably the better way to go!

Um, bit of a problem. It is several KB larger then floppy disks allow. :( Is there any way to shrink the file? Like compression programs? Since I tried winace on an exe file once and it didn't help at all. :(

You can zip a file and allow it to span several disks by using the options in Winzip at least or you could burn the file to a rewriteable CD.

Um, the problem just got worse. Apperrently I already had the program on my computer. I then selected it to open MSI files but when I double clicked on the two MSI files I had, I got a message saying something about the JPEG group and the file wouldn't open. :confused
