We'll do it by ourself--what does that mean?
Well we won't take any tech from the AI in trade, or any of their resources.
We don't want their money either--we'll make our own.

So we can gift tech, or bribe the AI to war or give in to demands, but we can't get tech, gold or resources in trade or extortion. We are allowed to steal tech tho.

We'll play immortal as usual and we have most of the roster returning from our success in UNGY6:

Ungy
Rusten
Dirk1302
Duckweed
Snowlywhite
Ozyar

Our chosen leader is DeGaulle of the French:

I roll one up:

This looks to be a good start especially for a charismatic leader--looks like 4 FP and 2 5 food tiles.
Little short on hammers unless there's a resource or another hill.
Hard to imagine moving here but I'm thinking move the warrior 1S in case there's a gold hill we might move settler 1S.

Don't see us moving away from the starting location either -- warrior 1S is fine.

Happy to see us with forests because we probably want to get the Pyramids to help our economy. The diplomatic effect of HR won't be needed here as we can't tech trade anyway.

Interesting to note that we are only 1 tech away from pottery (cottages) with a FP start. AH -> pottery should be very good -- especially with CHM.

moving the warrior didn't reveal anything so I settled in place:

more food and marble!

All our start tiles are either forest, resource or FP so we don't have any strat resource in the BFC.

Agree about AH-pot (and we've got an extra sheep). No need to farm the FP with 3 foods.

We may want to consider SH--we get it for 80H and we're char.

So I'll start it off later with AH-pot.

Marble's nice. Not so nice as when being able to trade tech but still nice. See if we can find stone, this may become a somewhat Obsolete like game where we'll build lots of wonders and the ais'll tech slow because they don't get those wonders. In my first post i had forgotten about industrious, a try for Mids is probably always worth it .

lurker's comment: Good luck guys, looking forward to seeing you in action once again. Ungy06 was a pleasure to follow!

OK I start on AH and quickly meet a neighbor:

he's at 8 tiles away and at this point doesn't have any other contacts.

We get some gold from a hut.

buddhism goes early--3720. I'm thinking that means Wang or HC's around.

I stop it here as I'm not sure we want to continue the original plan of pottery after AH.

Lincoln has horse in his BFC.

We have 16 worker turns to go to improve our 3 best tiles.

I WB'd a similar start and growing to 6 then settler building 3x warrior while growing.
The BW first got the settler out in 2520 with a couple of roads with a 3 pop whip.
The pottery first got the settler out in 2360 with no whip at the same time as BW but had a couple of cottages working.

So really around 5 turns quicker to settler--that could easily be the difference on claiming bronze.

I think I'd be inclined to switch gears and go for BW. It doesn't look likely that we'll be able to peacefully claim enough worthwile land.

What do you guys think?

Good call stopping.

There's about 900 tiles total and a lot of our area is tundra/desert/plains so I think BW is the way to go as well. We can chop the Pyramids in Washington and use our trees for axes instead. ;)

Looks like the American capital is not on a hill so it should be easy to take him out as long as we find copper. Go for it if you get an opportunity to steal his worker.

BW seems best now, what if there's no copper? At a glance i'd say pottery->IW in that case but more scouting info would be helpful then.

lurker's comment 2.
Good luck guys, but I am a bit afraid that would be too easy a challenge.

I shift to BW and proceed to scout around Washington which is definately not on a hill.

Go for it if you get an opportunity to steal his worker.

we declare on Lincoln and steal the worker.
we get it home uneventfully and post the warrior watching NY and the horse.

unfortunately I don't get much scouting done to the N but...

bronze in and we can get it--not a great spot but hey it's bronze:

we lose the pigs to an event the last turn and I send a worker back to repair as I figure we'll whip settler then barracks.

I've left the warrior move--we could whack the scout but I would probably skip it at this point as it'll help fogbust.

Over to general Rusten....

Interesting worker steal -- think its worth it? Allowing the horses to be connected would presumably lead to more chariots and fewer archers, right? Maybe the economic slowdown is enough to come out ahead on balance ... and an extra worker is certainly useful. Lincoln sure looks nicely rushable without a hilled capital :)

An old discussion, the extra worker is certainly very useful for chopping and the economic slowdown is important too. archers in cities are tougher but chariots can be a nuisance, you have to make some spears too counter them, 1 in stack but also 1 or 2 along the reinforcement route.

I don't think we should choke linc now, if we do he can bottle up with archers in capital, let him move around and think everything's normal.

Lurker:

No other contact on a fractal? Sounds like you're semi-isolated, soon to be completely isolated

If you don't camp out on the horse, Lincoln will probably start spamming chariots which may be bothersome.

I'm no expert on worker steal, but it seems that it's just a huge swing getting the worker and depriving him of it--especially when we both have the forest start.
