Unique Balance

    So far it does, I'll see how it goes when I get home and actually try to implement it. I'm kind of excited to be adding custom graphics for one of my mod's, even if so far it's just the unit flags for 10 out of 11 units. I honestly didn't think I'd ever have custom graphic's at all. Thank you very much for doing this.

    Ha, I totally overlooked them for some reason. Anyway, one Wikipedia search and I drew up a quick icon. Here's a new 5x3 preview, and a new 5x3 .dds in the zipped folder with Arabia occupying the 10th offset position.



    Also, i'm glad you're pumped. I really like working on mods and coming up with ideas, but i always find myself way, way more interested in making the artwork or planning what I'd like to change. Sorting through code is just... man! So i'm happy to be working with others who are more... let's say, "gifted," than I. :-D

    Ha! I think we could argue over who the gifted one is back and forth since I'm the exact opposit of you, I COULD probably do the art if I forced myself but I wouldn't be having fun doing it but I love parsing the code and refining it as much as I can, so lets just say we're both gifted in differnet ways. :D

    Oh and just a hint on how stupidly giddy this has me the code is already done, I just need to get home now and run it to make sure I didn't mess anything up.

    I've been made aware of the issues with Romes forum not giving any gold boost, the error with romes code may have also made normal markets give less gold. My appologies I'll have an update out as soon as i get home tonight. If anyone else has noticed any other Uniques not workign as intended I'd appreciate a heads up so I can fix them.

    • Fixed the XML code on several buildings
    • Added WHYS "Building Resources - Template" LUA code so that the English and German buildings actually do what I said they should.(IE provide Wine)

    kinda like it but, why does it change your units to 1 unit. i hate that.

    Use the newest version. The old version had what was supposed to be an unused art defines file in it but for some reasont he game loads any art define file in a mod even if you never reference it. You need to use beta8 it's the only one that removed the file so far.

    Forest scout doesn't seem to have the ignore terrain promotion like a normal scout. Being able to embark right away is also questionable as a unique ability. Perhaps something forest related would be more useful (double movement rate or increased combat strength in forest).

    The roman UB conflicts with city state diplomacy mod. It also adds a building called forum. With both mods enabled I was not able to construct the Roman UB. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=392543

    As stated above, Forest Scouts do not ignore terrain movement penalties like normal scouts. I think the free embarkation on them is fine, considering the Iroquois lived near lakes. Still, they need to ignore terrain movement penalties like normal scouts do.

    Also, it's apparent from your first post that you don't understand apostrophe usage in English. We don't ever use apostrophes (') to pluralize words. For example, Chariot's should just be Chariots and Eagle's should just be Eagles. Apostrophes in English are used exclusively for possession or contraction, never anything else. Also, in your description of the Red Army, you say it "doubles it's movement" which is incorrect usage of an apostrophe as well. Its is the correct word, which is the possessive of it. It's is the contraction of it is, not a possessive.

    Now with the error report and grammar lesson done, I thank you very much for this mod. I too felt that units and buildings weren't equal in power, and either way creating this helps to diversify the civilizations a little more, which is something I had wanted.

    Sorry folks, haven't been feeling well lately. I know what the issue is with the forest scout and it's already fixed on my end but I'm also in the middle of adding new static graphics(IE 'pedia art and such) so can't just upload what I have. As soon as I feel well enough to finish the art I'll get it posted. (If i where to upload what I have now it would break all the new UU's).

    Another report: Bedouin Warriors should not use the settler appearance because it doesn't have attack animations. This make for rather strange battles using them.

    • Added 'pedia art for all new uniques.
    • Fixed Forest Scout so that it has the same movement advantage as all other scouts.
    • Renamed everything (in the code only) so that it's much less likely that any naming issues will conflict with other mods(IE in the code the Forum is now UB_Forum)
    • Spelling and Misc. code fixes.

    Hey Elistor, great mod! I played using this a couple of times and it feels great getting my beloved forums back! I think i might have some feedback for you on the persian cataphract, when i play as them the unit is displayed as a spearman and i cant see how to change it so i guess it just needs altering in the mod itself.

    I'd love to start playing more as Japan and i wondered what you thought about an ornamental garden as a replacement for the garden (or even the watermill) instead of the shrine or maybe some kind of beautiful-but-nasty castle/fort:w00t:

    I like the Huochong but i thought maybe the movement ratio was too high. Was it 3?:confused:

    Oh yeah i nearly forgot i'd love to play using 'Unique Balance' with greytiger's courthouse mod as the two other civs i'd like to play with are France and Greece, both with unique courthouse buildings. I can't as yet see how to run the two together so i can build them in all cities as opposed to captured cities. Is it possible to point a noob towards merging the two or maybe making courthouses in 'Unique Balance' compatible with greytigers mod?

    I think that's it, nothing too whiny I hope:p, not really played with the others yet but im sure i will.

    Anyone there?:p Just got done playing with the new DLC. I have some crash issues with the new DLC but it works fine without mods. Are you planning on updating Unique Balance for the new patch?


    Oh yeah, huamincas for Inca and Citadel (obviously)for Spain if you do. No pressure:lol:

    Yeah I'm around. I've been sick but slowly working on both my mods and my unreleased fantasy mod. Unfortunately the latest patch broke the SetScriptData and GetScriptData function so any of my buildings that added resources no longer work, and the Spanish building I'd decided to do was one. Which means I get to rewrite a good chunk of code if I want to get this mod working and the major update I have for Medical Corp is now worthless wasting ALOT more time as well as my unreleased mod. It's kinda left me in a funk wondering if it's worth putting in the effort if there just going to break things this badly.

    So what, you need a rewrite from scratch? I don't know mods at all. Well it's definitely something I'd play If you did.

    Am i right about the cataphract? I'd like to play as persia so i could roll back the patch or something i suppose.

    I read that the multiplayer was broken but apart from the sticky opening scene thing the game's been working fine for me. After the patch it crashed but I turned off the mods and resolved to wait fornew stuff. dunno if that helps.

    Well, whatever, i endorse your mod:goodjob: hopefully there's more to come:D

    I'm prety much just going to wait untill they finalize the SDK before I start working on either of my mods again. I just can't justify putting hours of work into them to have it stop working again because they decide to remove a function or such.

    When you get back to fiddling with the mod, I have a comment about the German Brewery too. One of the best things about the Circus that it replaces is that the Circus has NO upkeep, but the Brewery requires 3, and it doesn't seem any cheaper than the Colosseum, which gives +4 happiness instead of +3 that the Brewery has. I'd humbly suggest that you remove the upkeep, and maybe give it a +1 culture bonus as well. :)
