Hi.

I've found some nice units on the net, that I would like to use in a scenario im creating. But I've run into some trouble...

This is some of the units I'd like to use http://frip.dk/knak/Units22.bmp .

The game wants all pictures of units to be 640 x 480 in size and 256 colour bmp files. so I scaled it to 640 x 480 and then I wanted to save as 256 colour bmp file, but it says that some of the colours would get lost if I did that. I tried it anyways. went ingame and tried to load the bmp. it loaded but all the units showed up in very ugly/screwed colors.

Now to my question. Is there a way to convert the picture without ruining the colours like that? because the units are clearly designed for civ 2, would surprise me if they are totally useless.

I hope someone can help me please :)

The image that you posted doesn't look like it's from normal Civ 2 or MGE.
Here is a comparison of normal Civ 2 unit file and your file:

Maybe it's from some kind of more extensive modification, which I am not familiar with unfortunately. Also I see the units are from a Lord of the Rings scenario (most likely scenario, a total conversion type scenario) - there's Gollum, Elves, great spiders, Sauron, orcs, members of the fellowship etc.
Looks really well done btw.

You might want to check scenario download section on the main CivFanatics page and look for something like this; maybe you're going to be more lucky than me, I haven't found anything this sophisticated in terms of units, at least not for normal Civ 2. Also try asking guys in the scenario section here on forum, maybe they can help you adapt these units to normal/mge civilization 2.

They're made by Fairline for Civilization 2: Test of Time. Unit graphics are 15-bit colour in ToT. The game reads 16-bit or 24-bit BMPs. Unit sizes are also larger: 64 x 64 pixels compared with 64 x 48 for earlier versions. Conversion for use with earlier versions of Civ2 will require resizing the icons (obviously), loading the Civ2 palette and saving in the correct format: version 87a non-interlaced GIF (the MGE version can also read 8-bit BMPs). Clearly there's going to be a loss in quality following conversion.
