***Unit Request Thread***

I am not a mod wizard but I have a suggestion. I always thought that the fortify option for sea-going vessels was strange. I mean ships do not fortify. Leaving out the fortify option for ships would not have a big effect on the game I think. Usually you use fortify to provide martial law or during peace when the troops are resting. But a good admiral will never leave his ships in port. They do not provide martial law and should be used aggresively in scouting or to 'engage the enemy more closely'. Usually I tend to forget about my ships when i fortify them. In other words the fortify graphics could perhaps somehow be replaced by an 'alternative death sequence'which is triggered by the 'check if ship sinks' calculation. Is this far out?

Any star trek units would be good.

I would like to know if anyone could make me a LHD - Wasp Class Amphibious Assault Ship.

Thanks

A couple of units i have thought up while playing civ 3 lately.... well actually a few.

1) FIrst.. an Air Tanker (refueler) This would be an air unit and would "carry" one or two air units in in. Just like how in real life aircraft can run alongside an airtanker and refuel. This would move like a Civ2 aircraft (no missions)--If these stats are possible!

2) I watched a movie recently about some obsessed arms designer trying to build a super gun for the Iraqis, I think the movie was called "The Doomsday Gun" Anyways, it would have fired 1000 miles (what is that in Kilometres?) If this unit were to be put in the game it would not likely have any movement rate, but would have a very large bombard area.

3) Is there any way for paratroopers to jump out of aircraft?

4) Terrorist (with hidden nationality tag) to really pi$$ off your rivals. Also, terrorists in small boats that crash into your ships with explosives... possibly make these stealth. Remember the USS Cole?

5)Some sort of anti-ship missile.

6)Mortar Troops? to bombard surrounding squares. They would not be capturable, they would have a weak defense rating.

7) Mobile Sams. Like the ADATS, or the Avenger.

8)Different choppers.. the cargo chopper, the attack chopper, and a naval chopper that can spot submarines.

well thats it for now...:)

Oh yeah i almost forgot!

mostly everybody knows how in vietnam aircraft dropped checmicals to remove the jungle.. by burning it. Would it be possible to make modern aircraft in Civ3 clear forest?... i doubt that it will be but its worth asking

Yeah, just give planes the ability to clear jungle in the editor. Of course, those planes weren't dropping napalm to clear jungles, they were using napalm to kill Vietcong!:ak47: :rocket: I think a napalm unit would be great! However, I would like to see some medieval units, like Axe-Men, and troops in black armor wielding 6 foot long Greatswords! I would also like to see more units for the Middle Eastern and Asian Civs. Maybe some different kinds of Samurai and some Arab warriors?

The US planes dropped "Agent orange" on the river banks to defoliate them. This chemical was used all over viet nam and caused cancer in any one in the area.
On the whole, not a good idea. Unless you like killing your own troops. (Its almost a shame there is no friendly fire rule in Civ III...)

Hey Womoks... I don't know if you're still checking in on this thread but I thought I'd request a unit. I've tried making one myself but I'm not so good with the organic shapes involved. Looking at your dragon and the preview of the Dinosaur rider (both excellent) I thought this would fit right in. Before I post an image I don't want to overburden you, you seem to have a lot of units on your plate already and if you think it's too much just say so... Anyway here are two shots I took of a lead figure I painted...

Don't worry Kinboat :)

I'm still checking with great interest this thread and i'm working hard to finish my previous units.I'm just in a hurry to finish my comics and have a lot of work this time.

It will be hard to choose which units i'm going to make after...
All periods and thematics are very exiting for me.
Well,so don't hesitate continuing posting your requests , i'll quickly inform you wich ones i'm making.

I swear i'll release my first pack next week. ;)

thanks all

I was wondering if anyone out there would be interested in making WWI era tanks, as it stands the game simply jumps into what looks like a WWII type tank without showing the tanks as they were when they first appeared. Below is a list of tanks I am hoping someone out there will make.

British Mark IV, this one has already been mentioned in the thread.

French Char d' Assaut St. Chammond or the Char 2C Heavy Tank , pictures and information regarding both of these and other French tanks can be found at: http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/france/France-Heavy.html

The Italian Fiat2000- Model 17 also at the same web site on a different page: http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/Italy/ItalianTanks.html

The German Sturmpanzerwagen A7V

The website I mentioned already provides a lot of information for a variety of tanks prior to 1946 and the main page seperates the tanks into their respective countries. The main page is located at:
http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/

Thanks in advance should anyone decide to create those units.

Korean War Wagon and Turtle ship from AoK Conquerors

I think the tank shown earlier was a Mk I, the 3d model from gunpoint-3d.com, right?
I think I Mk IV'd be great, and an A7V, and also a Renault FT17, as these were the major tanks in the war.
The thing is that these would be so slow, that they'd have to have 1 movement point, which would be a horrible drop from the Cavalry movement rate of 3 (which doesn't make sense to me, did they invent faster horses than the renaissance era knights?)
But even still, they'd be cool to see.
I have the 3d A7V model on my computer and I've toyed very little with making it a unit, but perhaps I'll get around to it (or perhaps someone should beat me to it?)

Yes it would drop the movement if a person correctly implemented the Tanks, but I don’t want to use them as a replacement for Cavalry I want to use them as “breakthrough” unit as they were intended to do in WWI. The tanks will be used to take on heavily defended cities or what have you while the cavalry uses it’s higher movement points to travel deeper into enemy territory. As it stands already the infantry and Cavalry in game are good enough to simulate their WWI era counter parts while the Biplane units and Blimp that were put out by Smoking Mirror, Kenboat and Pesoloco do a great job of simulating air combat during the time period and TVA22’s WWI Dreadnought is great for Naval forces. All that’s missing now is the Tanks to go along with it and frankly, for me any ways, I find WWI Tanks more interesting then those that came after them considering it was a process of trial and error in the beginning and many interesting designs were put out. My favorite of course being the British Mark series, always did like the rhomboid design.

when it comes to the cavalry being faster than the knights think of it like this.

the horses that knights rode were more closely related to the clidesdales of today, they had to be in order to carry all that armor on their backs. the horses used by the dragoons/cavalry are more like the quarter horses of today and are naturally faster due to their breeding. combine this inate quickness with the lack of an armored knight and barding (horse armor) and you can begin to understand why the cavalry are a faster unit than the knight. similaryly, if you use the horse archer animation by kryten i suggest giving that unit a move of 3 as well to simulate the speed of the arabian stallions.

Does anyone remember the Californian rifle men in the TV show Zorro or the movie? I really could use one of those for my Californian mod.

An upgrade to the bomber would be nice. I find it funny how you can either use stealth bombers or B-17's in the year 2050... Lol. Model it after the b-52 perhaps? ( Although another country's modern bomber might be cool too, there are a lot of American things already) And make it availiable when you discover jets or rockets or something.
